This methodologic paper aims to update researchers working with adolescents and young adults on the potentials and pitfalls associated with web-based qualitative research. We present a case study of synchronous web-based focus groups with 35 adolescents and young women ages 15–24 years old recruited from a clinical sample for a mixed methods study of heart disease awareness. We contrast this with two other studies, one using asynchronous web-based focus groups with 30 transgender youth ages 13 to 24 years old and another using synchronous web-based focus groups with 48 young men who have sex with men ages 18 to 26 years old, both recruited via social media. We describe general and logistical considerations, technical platform considerations, and ethical, regulatory, and research considerations associated with web-based qualitative research. In an era of technology ubiquity and dependence, researchers should consider web-based focus groups a potential qualitative research tool, especially when working with youth.

The manufacture of fire robot has characteristics such as different types and piece production, and flexible manufacture and cost control of the fire robot must be considered due to these characteristics. In this paper, the similarity of fire robot’s working environment was analyzed, The demand of chassis’s adaptability and the method using general technical platform were discussed with the thinking of modular design, and new series fire robots which composed of the general platform and different function modules were proposed, and the manufacture cost of traditional design method and modular design method were compared in using the activity-based costing method, and under the new design method the manufacture cost were decreased extremely.

In global enterprises an essential challenge is how to enable efficient sharing of knowledge, capacity, and resources in order to meet demands on speed, flexibility and adaptability. This paper highlights challenges and aspects regarding framework and technical platform for process planning that enable global multi-site collaboration. To get an industrial perspective, this topic is discussed in the context of Sandvik Coromant’s globally distributed application centers. Further on, function block technology as enabling technology to achieve flexible and adaptable process planning as a part of the framework is presented and discussed together with results from the on-going research work.

This chapter discusses the role of information system architectures in Collaborate Business Process Engineering (CBPE). Thus, in this chapter, there is an extension of the discussion on Service-oriented Architecture (SOA) from chapters 2 and 4, and its importance and relevance to CBPE. The SOA based architecture is extended and applied in a collaborative business environment. The technical platform of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) provides an ideal mechanism to start building collaborative business processes, as it facilitates technical collaboration of different environments - as discussed in this chapter.

One important component of digital academic library construction is to sort out the unique or rare resources from academic institutions by digitalizing and organizing them by themes. Building special subject databases is an important sub-project under CALIS. Throughout the continued construction and development of Phases I, II and III, a large number of special subject databases have been built. These databases are not only important digital resources that strengthen discipline development, but they are also rich special data resources of digital libraries for higher education in China. By reviewing the development path of the CALIS Special Subject Collection, this chapter will cover the management mechanism, technical platform, standards, social benefits, and philosophy behind it.
