The human consumption of vegetables in different parts of the world is quite high, among them tomato stands out on a larger scale and not so far, also is cucumber, both with great economic importance. Due to the problems regarding the vigor of many seeds, techniques that seek to improve the establishment of the seedlings in a uniform way have been implemented. One technique is the osmotic conditioning to which the seeds are submitted, for which compound solutions such as polyethylene glycol or potassium nitrate can be used, with which very satisfactory results are obtained under laboratory and field conditions The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of different doses and osmotic solutions on the physiological quality of seeds of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) and cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) in laboratory and field conditions. The evaluated variables were germination percentage, germination speed index, root length and emergence of seedlings. The tomato seeds were conditioned with PEG-6000 (-0.2, -0.4, -0.6 and -0.8 Mpa) and stored for a 30 days period, and as for the cucumber seeds with PEG-6000 (-0.2 and -0.1 Mpa) and with KNO³ (100 mg and 300 mg) with a storage period of 45 days. It is concluded that, in tomato seeds, germination did not present statistical differences, however, the variables referring to vigor were favored with the conditioning in the presence of PEG-6000 with the (-0.2 Mpa) concentration, while in cucumber seeds the germination percentage was better using PEG 6000 compared to nitrate, while for vigor variables it behaved better in the presence of a concentration of (-0.2 Mpa) of PEG.

Se realizaron aplicaciones de los inductores de resistencia: Messenger gold®, Virus Stop®, Actigard®, Virablock®, Kendal®, fosfito de potasio, Stymulus® Maxx, Bacillus subtilis y MC Cream® en el año 2018, de forma individual y combinados en secuencias, para evaluar su efecto sobre la concentración viral (densidad óptica), crecimiento, longitud de raíz, severidad, peso seco total, número y peso de frutos en el cultivo de jitomate (Solanum lycopersicum L.) infectado con Tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). La secuencia de los inductores Messenger gold®+ Messenger gold®+ MC Cream® + MC Cream® redujeron la concentración de TMV a los 38 días después de la inoculación, determinada mediante DAS-ELISA. La aspersión de Virablock® obtuvo la mayor altura promedio. Las plantas tratadas con la secuencia Virus Stop® + Virus Stop® + fosfito de potasio + fosfito de potasio obtuvieron la menor severidad promedio. Las plantas asperjadas con Messenger gold® + Messenger gold® + MC Cream® + MC Cream® registraron la mayor longitud de raíz, mayor peso seco total y el segundo mayor número y peso promedio de frutos que no mostraron síntomas de TMV en frutos.

The present study entitled “Bioefficacy study of Bacillus subtilis based biofungicide on leaf spot disease, growth and yield attributes of tomato [Solanum lycopersicum L.] cv. ArkaVikas” was conducted at Vegetable Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Institute of Agricultural Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi during rainy season of 2016-17 in Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. The treatments included foliar spray of chemical fungicide (Copper oxychlooride) and biofungicide (Taegro® and Trichoderma) either alone or in combination. Taegro® is a bacterial biofungicide containing 1×1010 CFU/g (13%w/w) of Bacillus amyloliuefaciens strain FZB24 formulated as WP. A total of 12 characters including disease, growth and yield parameters were studied. Disease parameter included leaf spot disease incidence (%) and disease severity (%) whereas growth and yield parameters included days to 50% flowering, height, number of branches per plant, fruit length (cm), fruit width (cm), number of fruits per plant, average fruit weight (g), number of seed per fruit, fruit yield per plot (kg), fruit yield per hectare (kg) were studied. The biofungicide Taegro exhibited significant potential in reducing the leaf spot in tomato and improving the growth and yield attributes of tomato as compared to control. But combined used of Taegro with standard chemical copper oxychloride gave better result than Taegro alone. As a consequence, this may be used as part of an integrated disease management approach so as to minimizes the use of standard fungicides and also protect the environment from pollution and maintenance of the human health.

La capacidad para solubilizar fosfatos y producir compuestos indólicos del tipo Ácido Indol Acético, se evaluó en 15 cepas aisladas de residuos lignocelulósicos de higuerilla (Ricinus communis). Para determinar la actividad solubilizadora de fosfatos se realizó una prueba cualitativa utilizando medio de cultivo Pikovskaya y para evaluar la producción de compuestos indólicos (AIA) se empleó la técnica colorimétrica de Salkowsky. Entre los microorganismos evaluados, Bacillus pumilus GIBI 206 mostró tener la capacidad para solubilizar fosfatos y Bacillus subtilis GIBI 200 evidenció capacidad para solubilizar fosfatos y producir Ácido Indolacético (AIA). Para determinar el efecto de la cepa Bacillus subtilis sobre la germinación y promoción de crecimiento, se inoculó en semillas de tomate (Solanum lycopersicum cultivar Santa Clara); la inoculación de las semillas con el microorganismono mostró diferencias estadísticamente significativas en el tiempo de germinación en comparación con el tratamiento control, sin embargo mostró influir positivamente en el desarrollo de las plantas de tomate  generando un aumento significativo sobre la masa y longitud del tallo y de la raíz. Los resultados de esta investigación ofrecen la posibilidad de utilizar a Bacillus subtilis como promotora de crecimiento en plántulas de tomate y en la formulación de bioinsumos

Upland crops cultivation in the south central coastal area of Bangladesh is limited due to heavy textured soil with late recession of flood water and early flash flood by heavy rainfall  The present study was designed to find out tillage requirement and suitable planting system for upland crops.. Number of tillage (two to four passes) was evaluated along with two planting systems viz., bed and flat planting systems using four crops like, tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.), brinjal (S. melongena L.), bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.) and cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) The crops showed that increased fruit yield with increasing number of tillage in both planting system. But bed planting system produced higher fruit yield (brinjal 67.73 t ha-1, tomato 85.33 t ha-1, bittergourd  41.8 t ha-1 and cucumber  25.8 t ha-1) than flat planting system. Evaluación de tres enraizadores comerciales en la producción de plántulas de tomate indeterminado (Solanum lycopersicum (L.) Lam)

Objetivo: Evaluar el desarrollo de plántula de tomate indeterminado bajo condiciones protegidas, aplicando  tres enraizadores  y un testigo para aumentar la producción del cultivo en la región. Diseño/metodología/aproximación: se utilizó bajo un diseño experimental en bloques completamente al azar, el cual consistió de cuatro tratamientos correspondiendo a cada uno de los bloques, donde cada bloque pertenecía a cuatro charolas de unicel de 200 cavidades con sustrato de BM2, con cuatro repeticiones cada uno, teniendo 15 unidades experimentales por tratamiento, sumando un total de 60 unidades experimentales, teniendo un total de 240 plántulas de tomate por todo el experimento. Resultados: Como resultado se obtuvo que el enraizador de Phyto Root  tuvo un gran efecto en cuanto al desarrollo de altura, grosor de tallo, numero de hojas, biomasa aérea y peso del cepellón, parámetros importantes que debe tener una plántula para su desarrollo y crecimiento al momento de trasplante a campo. Limitaciones del estudio/implicaciones: El manejo agronómico desde la siembra en charolas, es necesario que sea uniforme en todos los tratamientos y las repeticiones para tener mejores resultados en cuanto el efecto de los enraizadores. Hallazgos/conclusiones: Para obtener plántulas de buena calidad en el momento de trasplante a campo se le recomienda a la empresa y a los productores de plántulas utilizar el tratamiento de Phyto Root, ya que fue la que mejor respuesta tuvo.
