The effective analysis and specification of requirements is critical in software development. Faults in the requirements may have significant impact on the quality of the software system. Use cases describe and analyze requirements in many current Object Oriented (OO) development methodologies, and can serve as a means for developers to communicate with different stakeholders. However, issues concerning use case format and level of detail are unclear and debatable. This study uses theories from cognitive psychology on how humans understand text and diagrams to investigate the effect of use case model format on end user understanding. An experiment to assess the performance of novices when using different use case formats indicated that for tasks that required only surface understanding of the use case model, the provision of diagrams along with the textual use case descriptions significantly improved comprehension performance in both familiar and unfamiliar application domains. However, the author found no statistically significant difference in performance between simple and detailed diagrams, suggesting that the provision of simple diagrams along with textual use case descriptions might be sufficient to support the negotiation and communication on system requirements between novice end-users and system analysts.

Tempat pelayanan kesehatan bertujuan untuk memberikan pelayanan kesehatan kepada masyarakat melalui lembaga institusi pelayanan kesehatan. Masyarakat di Kota Palembang mendapatkan informasi tempat pelayanan kesehatan melalui informasi masyarakat sekitar, lembaga pelayanan kesehatan dan beberapa situs internet yang ditampilkan secara terpisah. Maka sebuah website geografis diperlukan untuk menampilkan tata letak lokasi pelayanan kesehatan dan informasi lengkap tentang pelayanan kesehatan di Kota Palembang. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat sebuah pemodelan website geografis tempat pelayanan kesehatan di Kota Palembang. Pemodelan yang digunakan berbasis object oriented dengan menerapkan use case diagram dan activity diagram.

Sistem Informasi Rawat Jalan ini bertujuan untuk mendukung kegiatan operasional klinik yang mencakup layanan rawat jalan serta pengelolaan persediaan barang agar lebih cepat dan efisien. Untuk mendokumentasikan sistem ini menggunakan pendekatan berorientasi objek. Pada tahap pemodelan analisis, dibuat system use case, use case scenario, dan activity diagram. Pada tahap perancangan, pendekatan ini menggunakan class diagram dan sequence diagram. Sedangkan pada tahap implementasi, pendekatan ini menggunakan component diagram dan deployment diagram. Dalam tahap pembangunan sistem informasi, penulis menggunakan bahasa pemrograman Java dengan Netbeans 7.2.1 sebagai development tool, serta MySQL sebagai database engine. Hasil dari pengerjaan ini berupa sistem informasi yang mampu menangani proses pendaftaran pasien, pemeriskaan pasien, pembayaran resep, pembelian produk, serta pembayaran utang terhadap pemasok. Sistem informasi yang dihasilkan mampu mempercepat waktu pemrosesan informasi pada setiap tahap dalam kegiatan operasional klinik.

This chapter presents the analysis of ten recently proposed object-oriented metrics based on cognitive informatics. The metrics based on cognitive informatics use cognitive weight. Cognitive weight is the representation of the understandability of the piece of software that evaluates the difficulty experienced in comprehending and/or performing the piece of software. Development of metrics based on Cognitive Informatics (CI) is a new area of research, and from this point of view, for the analysis of these metrics, it is important to know their acceptability from other existing evaluation and validation criteria. This chapter presents a critical review on existing object-oriented cognitive complexity measures. In addition, a comparative study based on some selected attributes is presented.

In this chapter, we study the use of a formal object-oriented method within Relational Unified Process (RUP). Our purposes are (a) to unify different views of UML models; (b) to enhance RUP and UML with a formal method to improve the quality of software; (c) to scale up the use of the formal method with the use-case driven, iterative and incremental aspects of RUP. Our overall aim is to establish a sound foundation of RUP and UML and scale up the use of formal methods in software-intensive system development.

Software measurement helps to quantify the quality and the effectiveness of software to find areas of improvement and to provide information needed to make appropriate decisions. In the recent studies, software metrics are widely used for quality assessment. These metrics are divided into two categories: syntactic and semantic. A literature review shows that syntactic ones are widely discussed and are generally used to measure software internal attributes like complexity. It also shows a lack of studies that focus on measuring external attributes like using internal ones. This chapter presents a thorough analysis of most quality measurement concepts. Moreover, it makes a comparative study of object-oriented syntactic metrics to identify their effectiveness for quality assessment and in which phase of the development process these metrics may be used. As reliability is an external attribute, it cannot be measured directly. In this chapter, the authors discuss how reliability can be measured using its correlation with syntactic metrics.

This paper presents a method to improve the interoperability of 3D geospatial features from the perspective of data representation, with an emphasis on the interoperability of advanced functions associated with 3D models, such as thematic functions, interaction capabilities, and dynamics. The central concept of the proposed method is to express geospatial features in the form of managed objects, which carry both functions and data of 3D geospatial features in an object oriented and platform-independent manner with the support from virtual machine mechanism. Unlike any conventional data representation method that maintains the data and functionality separately; this method allows the features to carry their own executable functions by themselves in order to achieve the interoperability on a feature’s level. A use case is also provided in this paper to demonstrate the presented method. In this use case, different applications can simply fetch the 3D features and run their functions without the need to know what they can do beforehand.
