Firefox OS is an operating system for mobile devices. It is developed by Mozilla and is based on web technologies. Developed applications are therefore not tied to a given type of hardware. Mozilla works on standardisation of Web APIs, so that the device hardware could be accessed more easily. It also introduced its sign-in system for the Web and furthermore, it wants to redefine the way payments work for mobile applications. Firefox OS is not directly competing with Android and iOS, although it has some common target markets with Android. It could be an opportunity to weaken the iOS and Android duopoly. For now it targets users that don't have smartphones yet and is mostly used on low-end devices. The biggest challenge of Firefox OS is to assure a stable position in the mobile OS ecosystem and to get a large volume of users. Mozilla has an ambition to improve the web and make the web the platform. However developing the Firefox OS and ensuring its important place on the market is difficult because of technological and business limits that will be discussed in this chapter.

There are many mobile applications currently available on the market, which have been developed specifically for smart phones. The operating system of these smart phones is flexible enough to facilitate the high level application development. Similar to other pervasive devices, mobile phones suffer from limited amount of resources. These resources vary from the power (battery) consumption to the network bandwidth consumption. In this research the mobile resources are identified and classified. Furthermore, a monitoring approach to measure resource utilization is proposed. This monitoring tool generates traces about the resource usage which is followed by a benchmarking model which studies monitoring traces and enables users to extract qualitative information about the application from quantitative trace of resource usage.

The following document presents the development of educational experimental prototypes. The themes of the prototypes cover principles or concepts of physics. Like kinematics, oscillatory movements and shocks. Each prototype has sensors that allow measurements of the variables involved in the experimentation. At the same time, mobile applications are developed for devices with Android operating system, which allow the user to control the prototype from their cell phone and also view the variables measured by the experimentation prototypes. The applications also have a data export system that allows to obtain a file in csv format. In this way, the measurements are obtained in the form of a table to later be processed through office automation tools or other numerical computing software such as Matlab.

The article is based on the research in mobile applications markets. The distribution of market power in these markets depends on the ability of a digital ecosystem’s owner to control the handling of mobile applications inside the ecosystem. The degree of this control is determined by the substitutability of different application stores as necessary facilities for the access to mobile applications. The authors provide the survey-based empirical estimates of such substitutability for Apple’s mobile application store — App Store. The results of further tests for market boundaries delineation confirm the embeddedness of final users in Apple’s ecosystem in absence of feasible opportunities to change the operating system and, consequently, the application store. The findings explain the degree of Apple’s market power and provide grounds for antitrust intervention.

Abstract The emergence of Android as a leading Operating System in terms of market coverage induced the rapid emergence of many mobile applications. A lot of these applications are prone to misuse because of their design. This paper deals with a new method of informing user whether applications installed on his device are potentially harmful or not. The introductory part provides some insight into security mechanisms used in Android. The main part deals with research we based our work on, proposal of our own methodology based on permission model and its implementation in application for real-time offline analysis of installed applications on device running Android. The last part of this paper deals with the evaluation of achievements reached by our methodology implemented in standalone application

The backbone of this research is to design and developed an effective cloud environment for pretending and protection of portable client device information put away in the cloud. Portable gadgets, for example, advanced mobile phones or tablets that are fundamentally more restricted than PCs as far as memory, processors, secured operating system, and accessible system data transmission bandwidth because of that all information migrate in to cloud environment. A portable client may go about as an information owner will demand key from the cloud administrator, scrambles the information and afterward it transfers the information in the cloud. In the cloud secured encryption is finished. Certificate Authority Based Encryption (CABE) approach is utilized for security and adaptability. Frequent monitoring is accomplished for Privacy, Security, trustworthiness and accessibility.
