The principal aim of this study was to analyze the chemical composition and qualitative and quantitative variability of essential oils obtained from seven naturally grown populations of thePinus peuceGrisebach, Pinaceae in Kosovo. Plant materials were collected from three populations in the Sharri National Park and from four other populations in the Bjeshkët e Nemuna National Park, in Kosovo. Essential oils were obtained by steam distillation and analyzed by GC-FID (Gas Chromatography-Flame Ionization Detection) and GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry). The results showed that the yield of essential oils (v/wdry weight) varied depending on the origin of population and the plant organs and ranged from 0.7 to 3.3%. In total, 51 compounds were identified. The main compounds wereα-pinene (needles: 21.6–34.9%; twigs: 11.0–24%),β-phellandrene (needles: 4.1–27.7; twigs: 29.0–49.8%), andβ-pinene (needles: 10.0–16.1; twigs: 6.9–20.7%). HCA (Hierarchical Cluster Analysis) and PCA (Principal Component Analyses) were used to assess geographical variations in essential oil composition. Statistical analysis showed that the analyzed populations are grouped in three main clusters which seem to reflect microclimatic conditions on the chemical composition of the essential oils.

The article presents the research results obtained during the development of the technology for production of combined sausages using a vegetable-derived additive – LUPISAN lupine flour from “OOO Protein PLUS” (St. Petersburg). Under the conditions of a deteriorating environmental situation and the increase in incidence of the population of the Russian Federation, it became necessary to create biologically complete functional food products with additional functions, useful nutritional and physiological characteristics, based on the integrated use of raw materials of animal and vegetable origin. The use of plant materials in the production of meat products allows not only enriching them with functional ingredients and increasing digestibility, but also obtaining products that meet physiological nutritional standards. Having a complex chemical composition, plants have a beneficial therapeutic effect on the human body. Research was carried out at the Department of Food Technology of the Don State Agrarian University, in the testing laboratory of the Shakhty branch of the Rostov “SBBZh” and at the meat processing plant “TaVr-Zimovniki”. Basing on the conducted comprehensive studies, the effectiveness of using vegetable protein supplement based on lupine flour “LUPISAN” in the production technology of semi-smoked sausages is substantiated. It is established that in terms of quality and safety, LUPISAN meets the requirements for additives of plant origin, it is a genetically unmodified, kosher product (has the appropriate certificates). It is dispersible both in oil and in water and can be used as a natural emulsifier without labeling with the index "E". The analysis of the chemical composition and nutritional value of flour from lupine indicates that the flour contains a significant amount of complete protein is 36–40%; in addition, a rather high content of dietary fiber is noted: dietary fiber is 30–35%. It is a strong antioxidant, it does not contain gluten and cholesterol; there are no inhibitors – substances that delay the digestion process and inhibit the absorption of beneficial substances by the body, and there are glycoproteins – substances that can replace insulin. An optimal dose of introducing a protein supplement based on lupine flour into sausage stuffing is proposed, which is 10% by weight of unsalted raw materials, which makes it possible to obtain a finished product with high organoleptic quality indicators and functional properties.

Undoubtedly, identification of the chemical composition of organic extracts or secondary metabolites of plant materials and evaluation of their potential bioactivity are among the main objectives of natural products-based investigations. In the present study, we report the chemical composition and antidiabetic activity of Sophora pachycarpa (Family Fabaceae) seeds extract (SPE) for the first time. First, the plant seeds were macerated in ethanol. The extract was subjected to analysis on a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) system to identify the chemical composition. In vivo assay was run to evaluate the antidiabetic activity of the extract. Forty mice were divided into four groups, namely healthy mice, untreated diabetic mice, diabetic mice treated with metformin and diabetic mice treated with SPE. The antidiabetic activity of SPE was analyzed using three statistical methods, namely analysis of variance, K-means, and principal component analysis. According to GC-MS analysis, alkaloids of sophoridine, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and n-hexadecanoic acid were among the most abundant constituent components of SPE. The extract also exhibited a notable antidiabetic activity and remarkably decreased the levels of alkaline phosphatase (ALP), serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT), and serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) enzymes. The statistical analyses revealed there are no significant differences between the ability of SPE and metformin in the regulation of fasting blood sugar level and liver enzymes (ALP, SGPT, and SGOT). A quinolizidine alkaloid, namely sophoridine, along with fatty acids, viz oleic, linoleic, and n-hexadecanoic acid, were characterized as the major compounds in S. tachycardia seeds extract. The plant extract was also found as a potent agent to reduce blood glucose and liver enzymes.

The continuous demand for alternative protein sources for fish due to its short supply, high prices and competition with the human food. A review of unconventional feeds in fish nutrition was carried out to provide information on supplemental feed for effective Aquaculture. Non-conventional dietary energy and protein sources,especially from plant origin can be used to replace expensive protein sources. There is a continuous demand for alternative protein sources for fish due to short supply, cereals and oilseed mealsfor sustainable aquaculture production. The solid waste materials like distillers dried grain soluble, breweries waste, ghee residue and agricultural plant materials like jute, leucaena, moringa, cassava, rain tree and spirulina can find a place in formulation of aquafeed as one of the inexpensive feed ingredients. The non-conventional feed ingredients to be incorporated in fish feed up to recommended levels.

The experiment was aimed to predict the relationship between rumen degradation parameters and chemical composition, especially acid detergent lignin, and molecular structure profiles of lignin (the relative content ratio of syringyl and guaiacyl unit) of twenty-two herbaceous and leguminous forage, which were commonly used as roughage for dairy cows in the northeast of China. Analyses of the spectra of forage materials' high boiling solvent lignin samples showed that common features and specific vibrations to each unique lignin were found in the spectrum. In this paper, the spectra of materials high boiling solvent lignin demonstrated absorption at the band around 1332 cm–1 (syringyl) and 1258 cm–1 (guaiacyl). The spectra indicated that the lignin of the plant materials used in this study are H-G-S type. A broad range was found among the chemical composition for each feedstuff. The degradation kinetics characteristics among feedstuffs also had relatively large range of variation. The relative content ratio of syringyl (S) and guaiacyl (G) unit of leguminous samples positively correlated with some rumen degradation characteristics. However, there was no correlation between relative content ratio of S and G unit and degradation parameters among the herbaceous materials (p > 0.05). According to analyses, content acid detergent lignin (ADL) and relative content ratio of S and G could be the predictors of the degradation parameters expect SCP among forage. In conclusion, the relative content ratio of S and G might be potentially used to predict some of the degradation parameters (Kd CP, EDCP, SNDF) of leguminous feedstuffs.

Currently, a lot of attention is paid to a number of researchers oligo – and polysaccharides. This is due to their high content in plant materials and the fulfillment of a special role in the development of living organisms, which is of great importance in the production of fructose, sucrose and inulin. Kyrgyzstan has huge reserves of still little-studied, environmentally friendly medicinal and other plant species. The article deals with the study of the chemical composition of the carbohydrate complex in plants of the genus Cousinia angreni Jus. Experimental studies have been carried out to isolate and establish structures of water-soluble polysaccharides and alcohol-soluble oligosaccharides. Glucofructan was isolated from the roots of Cousinia angreni Jus, the structure of individual fractions was studied by methylation, periodic oxidation, paper chromatography, thin-layer chromatography and GLC, IR and 13C-NMR spectroscopy. When compared with witnesses, 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-Me-D-glucose, 1,3,4,6-tetra-O-Me-D-fructose, 3,4,6-tri-O-Me-D-fructose (main product) and trace amounts of 1,3,4-tri-O-Me-D-fructose. The presence of the main product 3,4,6-tri-O-Me-D-fructose indicates the predominance of β-(2→1) bonds. Thus, it was found that glucofructans of the Angren cousin (C. angreni Jus) consist of fructofuranose residues linked by β-(2→1) inulin type bonds.

A real-time PCR method aimed at the gene sequence of the walnut vicilin-like seed storage protein was established for the detection of the allergen walnut in food. The primers and probe were designed based on published methods. The method provided positive results for walnut and negative results for other tested agricultural plant materials including pecan. The intrinsic detection limit of the method was 0.00125 ng of walnut DNA, and the practical detection limit was 0.001% (wt/wt) walnut content in wheat; both of these values are lower than that of previously published methods. Therefore, this real-time PCR method is sufficiently specific and sensitive for the detection of walnut component in food.
