The problem of creating a landscape environment considering the cultural and educational orientation in the structure of objects of the landscape and recreational zone of cities is observed. Specialized cultural and cognitive parks of ideological and thematic orientation are grouped by areas: urban planning, landscape-ecological, spatial-compositional, semiotic, typological-methodological and their main characteristics are given. The classification of specialized cultural and cognitive parks and those that ideologically affect the surrounding and inner world of man is given. The main methods used in the formation of specialized cultural and educational parks in the process of landscape-planning organization of the park environment by its phases (pre-design research, design, implementation, maintenance) are determine In each of the phases the main stages of its implementation and methods of scientific research used in it are given. When considering the issue of creating specialized cultural and cognitive parks, the general criteria to be met by the design objects that combine them were identified, a number of methods that form the algorithm for their creation were considered.

The object of study of this research is how the Theory of Semiotics Representation Registers is evident in Brazilian scientific research therefore aims to reveal the level of coverage, mathematical object, methodological procedures and aspects of Duval most prevalent theory in these research. In this way, it is a bibliographical research design with state of the art. The results show the predominance of Basic Education; the variety of mathematical objects; the highlight of both sequences as Teaching of Mathematics activities as methodological procedures used and the treatment and conversion transformations as aspects of the more obvious Duval theory most evident in the mapped research.

This paper is intended as a contribution to the discussion of the declared topic of this journal, architectural research. It stems partly from the author's book From Idea to Building and is mainly an analysis of the similarity between architectural design and scientific research based on Karl Popper's hypothetico-deductive theory, and in particular the sequence from problem recognition through tentative solution and error elimination to an explanation which may become the problem in the next sequence of research.

Proper research design, appropriate evaluation and measurement methods, use of correct statistical tests, interpretation, and inference are the essentials without which any scientific research reporting is incomplete and does not serve its proposed purpose. In this communication, some common flaws in research designing, evaluation, analysis, and inference have been explained using a published article as a reference. The purpose of the paper is to help the scientific community recognize the significance of proper research designing and planning in order to achieve the results which are worthwhile.

Architect, author and teacher, Michael Brawne was also an arq contributor and referee. His article ‘Research, design and Popper’ published in our second issue (1/2, pp 10–15) was an analysis of the similarity between architectural design and scientific research based on Karl Popper's hypothetico-deductive theory. It cut straight to the heart of the declared subject of this journal. Reading it again, one can almost hear Michael – with his characteristically precise enunciation (and often exquisitely drawly voice) – elucidating his argument. The following celebration of Michael and his contribution to architecture speaks eloquently about the man and his teaching but surprisingly little about his completed buildings – especially those of the '60s and '70s. There was something very rigorous about these. Indeed, Charles Correa asserts that the houses in Hampstead are ‘among the half-dozen most important pieces of architecture’ constructed in the UK over the last 50 years. It was in the first Hampstead house that, in 1962, there emerged the surface mounted vertical mullions that were to appear again – always subtly related to the internal spatial arrangement – in later projects. And there was his use on the upper levels of his buildings of steeply sloping Cor-Ten sheet (something that today's generation, who seem to have rediscovered this problematic material, could well learn from). In plan, his buildings often made a powerful use of the diagonal (the Cambridge influence perhaps?) and occasionally revealed his admiration for Alvar Aalto's work. This thoughtful, highly distinctive body of work extended from country cottage conversions and extensions to competition designs such as his ‘groundscraper’ high-density housing entry for the Portsdown competition. And what of Michael's exhibition designs? Following the 1965 publication of his book, The New Museum, it was a field in London which he seemed to dominate for much of the late '60s and the '70s – with shows such as the stunning Art in Revolution at the Hayward Gallery in 1971 and the exquisite Age of Neo-Classicism at the Royal Academy in the following year. In the mid '90s, his work for ecclesiastical museums in Germany was equally elegant and well-judged. And, over the last six years, recalling his artist father, he turned to making sculpture at Bath College.Michael Brawne is remembered here by some of his contemporaries, fellow teachers and students. The first contribution, by Bob Allies, is reproduced by permission from The Independent newspaper in which it appeared on 16 August 2003.

Research is only as good as one's proposal. It is found to be a more challenging job to guide for preparing research proposal than general project proposal and sometimes less formal as well. Some even argue that to implement the quantitative research accordingly, sufficient details should warrant a good research proposal. This chapter is aimed to propose a simple guideline for writing a research proposal designing in a quantitative research. In addition, it will help professional or academic researchers to develop good scientific research proposals for quantitative research design.

This study tries to describe the important position of maqhasid shari'ahas an alternative method in the scientific research design. Especially in the field of ijtihad maqhasidi, both using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed approaches. Based on the text analysis method, the results of the study show that the sharia maqhasidno longer only deals with the realm of the Qur'an and Sunnah texts, but can be used as a basis for contextual research in general. The work system of Islamic maqhasidresearch design is measured by the maintenance of the benefit of humans and their environment without the limit of space and time. So that, science can be directly proportional to the interests of humanity and the universe. As the universal vision of Islam, as a religion rahmatan lil 'alamiin. The research methods that usually well-known are only qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method, then the maqhasid shariamethod can be used as an alternative method, so that Islamic law can be always contextual. In other words, this method can be as s 'new' scientific research design model.
