Abstract The applicability of a wedge-joint mechanism with a curving wedge in presses for the implementation of metal forming separation processes was substantiated. The paper states the fact, that the wedge-joint mechanism graph of the deformation force change is the closest to the technological typical graph of the force change during separation. At the same time, the wedge-joint mechanism with a curving wedge has a lower height of the parts in comparison with the traditional crank mechanisms, which provides less elastic deformation and press dynamics. The use of the additional wedge mechanism in a press with the wedge-joint mechanism with a curving wedge to ensure the approximation motion is proved. This makes it possible to reduce the energy consumption for elastic deformation and further reduce the dynamic force. The mathematical models of the wedge-joint mechanism with a curving wedge, presented in the form of a two-slide link mechanism, were developed, allowing to perform its structural, kinematic and dynamic analysis. Based on the analysis of the proposed mathematical models, dependencies were identified and a procedure for calculating the geometric, kinematic and power parameters of wedge-joint mechanisms with a curving wedge for separation processes was developed. Comparison of the kinematic and dynamic analyzes results carried out by analytical and graphic-analytical methods confirms the reliability of estimates, since their discrepancy is not more than 2.5%. Experimental studies have confirmed the adequacy of mathematical models. The error between the calculated and measured values of the forces on the slide does not exceed 10%.

AbstractIn the 20 years that have passed since the Karen Quinlan case exposed a simmering clinical issue to the light of day — more precisely, to the press and to judicial process — a consensus has developed in American law about how end-of-life decisionmaking should occur. To be sure, there are dissenting voices from this consensus, but they are often (though not always) about minor issues. By illustrating how this consensus has evolved, this paper explores how law is made in the American legal system and the roles that different legal and extra-legal institutions play in lawmaking.

Building on the case made in chapter 3, chapter 4 tunes to consider Martin Chuzzlewit and examines the ways in which the novel addresses the relationship between literacy, print media, and the experience of modern urbanism. Together eith its predecessor, the chapter argues that for Dickens America was far more than what has been generally perceived as an increasingly negative experience that chastened his understanding of the press and of mass culture. Rather, and notwithstanding all his complaints about Americans, tobacco, and spit, the encounter with America in fact provided him with a new sense, at once disturbing and alluring, of the potential power of a cheap mass-market press led by entrepreneurial editors operating in a print environment unconstrained by state controls. Moreover, in writing about America, and above all in writing about its newspapers in both American Notes and Martin Chuzzlewit, Dickens for the first time discovered a methodology for fusing fiction and the press in ways that would be foundational his most significant contribution to Victorian journalism, Household Words and its successor, All the Year Round.

<p>Based on 10 authentic audio-recorded data, the study aims to explore the dynamics of the insurance sales agent-client interactions in transformational China’s rural areas from a socio-cultural perspective. It sets out from generalizing the specific discursive patterns from moves and steps (Askehave &amp; Swales, 2001; Bhatia, 2005) of the utterances made in the agent-client interactions, governed by communicative purposes. For the first move, warming up, it deserves more attention as it serves crucial functions in the interactions. The paper delineates the different types and functions of warming up, and relates them to the underlying operating mechanism of rural agent-client interactions; another vital move, establishing credentials and trust, has also been analyzed in details, since trust is the pillar stone in the conclusion of insurance sales. Through the analysis, we hope to depict the transforming nature of the modern Chinese rural society, where old and traditional value system has been, for a large part, demolished, while new value system is yet to be established.</p>

Thomas Cromwell's association with various writers has long been noted, but how these authors' writings might reflect his personal religious beliefs has not been closely studied. An examination of one such author, William Marshall, and of his work, reveals not only that Cromwell was likely a Lutheran, but that he used the press to promote doctrinal Protestantism in England. Through Marshall, Cromwell sponsored English translations of doctrinally radical texts by Martin Luther, Joachim von Watt, and Martin Bucer. And when these books got Marshall into trouble, Cromwell protected him. The picture that emerges substantiates John Foxe's description of Cromwell as a ‘valiant soldier and captain of Christ’, but also the charge made in his bill of attainder, that he had circulated heretical books.

This chapter examines Harry T. Burleigh's legacy in African American music. Burleigh retired in 1946 from his position as baritone soloist at St. George's Protestant Episcopal Church, marking the end of an exceptional public career. He died of cardiac failure on September 12, 1949. All too soon after the influx of laudatory obituaries, the press got wind of the conflict over Burleigh's estate. This chapter first considers the trial involving Burleigh's two wills, both of which were challenged by Louise Alston Burleigh and their son Alston because they suspected his longtime housekeeper, Thelma Hall—a recipient of the second will together with her son James—of exerting undue influence on Burleigh. It also looks at various tributes made in Burleigh's honor, including one from Will Marion Cook, and concludes with an emphasis on the importance of black music to the Harlem Renaissance, Burleigh's mastery in arranging African American spirituals, and the newfound respect for his art songs.

The article considers the effect of axial load on the turns of the thread of the planetary roller-screw converter of rotational motion into translational one. For this purpose an experimental setup was made in which the nut lies end-face on the flat surface of the press, a screw is screwed into it. The force is applied to the screw through a ball to distribute the load uniformly. The design of the machine for compression measurement allows automatic recording the axial mutual movement of tested mechanism parts when the loading force changes. Contact and displacement occur when the loading force reaches 300 N. The results are obtained in the form of a "force – displacement" graph. In the course of the experiment, the influence of step error on the uniformity of the contacts of the turns of the mating parts of the planetary roller-screw mechanism was checked. The results of the experiment are analyzed, the influence of inaccuracy of manufacturing thread of planetary roller-screw mechanism parts on its capacity for use in feed drives of various machines is considered.

Objective of the study: This study aims to investigate the characteristics of the networks of volleyball teams in Brazilian context, in amateur and professional level.Methodology/Approach: This research adopted an interpretive paradigm, in which six Brazilian volleyball teams were studied. The techniques of data collection were qualitative and encompassed interviews, analysis of information available in the press and on websites and observation.Originality/Relevance: Prior literature has not investigated in-depth with the lens of the networks theory, the sports organizations at an amateur and professional level, considering the firms’ life cycle. To address this gap, considering that, similar to the life cycle of firms, amateurism and professionalism are specific strategic contexts.Main results: Our findings indicated that actor’s of team’s networks could be divided into two groups, one linked to sports and other to administrative activities. Additionally, teams’ networks have in common the fact that paid team members perform activities related to the sport itself.Theoretical/Methodological contributions: The fact that Superliga B has more collaborations obtained by personal contacts, while  Superliga A teams build a more calculated network, meet the propositions made in this study and are aligned to the general idea of the work of Hite and Hesterly (2001) about changes in firm’s network and firm’s life cycle.  Social contribution/for management: The main implications for management indicated that, whether companies or volleyball teams, should align their networks with the current life cycle stage. If a volleyball team plans to become professional, it should be aware of the need to adapt the network to a new division.

In a previous paper, Peters & J. Leiper (1940) pleaded that, in anthelmintic experiments, the statistical problem of variation should be considered, not only so as to assess the significance of treatment differences after the results have come to hand, but also with a view to the prior construction of an experimental design capable of giving reliable answers to the questions posed. Reference was made to the “Enormous expenditure of time, labour and money” on anthelmintic experiments, the results of which usually remain undigested and of unknown significance. While the paper was passing through the press a symposium on phenothiazine as an anthelmintic, led and summarized by Taylor & Sanderson (1940), was published in the Veterinary Record. The symposium deals with “Work carried out in various parts of the country and co-ordinated through the Agricultural Research Council” it covers some 150 horses, 300 to 400 sheep, 70 to 80 goats, and a few cattle, pigs, and dogs. The drug was found to be remarkably efficient against horse strongyles and the stomach-worms of ruminants, and in varying degree less efficient against other worms.Extensive tables of egg-counts, worm-counts, and weights of animals are published in the symposium. It was usual to count eggs or weigh animals once before treatment and several times afterwards. The repeated after-treatment determinations are made in order to detect a general trend in egg-counts or weights: in other words there is no attempt to measure and make allowance for the very considerable upand- down variation from day to day.
