The study covers coatings obtained on 40Kh steel substrates by electro-spark deposition (ESD) using TiC–NiCr and TiC–NiCr– Eu2O3 electrodes. Coatings were deposited by the Alier-Metal 303 unit in argon environment under the normal pressure using direct and opposite polarity. The structure, elemental and phase composition of electrodes and coatings were studied using X-ray phase analysis, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy, and optical profilometry. Mechanical and tribological properties of coatings were determined by nanoindentation and testing according to the «pin-disk» scheme including high-temperature conditions in the range of 20–500 °C. The tests conducted include abrasive wear tests using the Calowear tester, impact resistance tests using the CemeCon impact tester, and tests for gas and electrochemical corrosion resistance. Test results showed that electrodes contain titanium carbide, nickel-chromium solid solution, and europium oxide in case of a doped sample. Coatings exhibit the same phase composition but solid solution is formed on the iron base. Coatings with the Eu2O3 additive do not differ significantly in structural characteristics, hardness, friction coefficient, and exceed the base coatings in terms of their abrasive resistance, repeated impact resistance, heat and corrosion resistance. There was an increase in impact resistance by 1.2–2.0 times, a decrease in corrosion current by more than 20 times, and an oxidation index by almost 2 times during the transition to doped coatings.

AbstractNi-based alloy coatings prepared by laser cladding has high bonding strength, excellent wear resistance and corrosion resistance. The mechanical properties of coatings can be further improved by changing the composition of alloy powders. This paper reviewed the improved microstructure and mechanical properties of Ni-based composite coatings by hard particles, single element and rare earth elements. The problems that need to be solved for the particle-reinforced nickel-based alloy coatings are pointed out. The prospects of the research are also discussed.

This work elucidated corrosion resistance of the electrodeposited MgO/calcium phosphate (Ca-P/MgO) films on titanium (Ti). The microstructure, phase composition, and corrosion resistance of the films were studied. Results revealed that The Ca-P/MgO composite coatings were rough and inhomogeneous, the upper layer was floral-like crystals or flakes agglomerates morphology, and the lower layer was needle-like crystals which were mutually cross linked. The coating was very dense, and the content of Mg was about 0.3 wt%. Potentiodynamic polarization test manifested that the Ca-P/MgO-coated surface exhibited superior corrosion resistance than the bare titanium.

This paper covers the results of development of corrosion resistant ash alkali-activated cements based on regulation of phase composition of the hydration products through changing the alkali content, content of calciumcontaining cement constituents resulting in the increase strength and density of the cement stone. The results of study suggested to conclude that the cement compositions with predominance in the hydration products of weakly soluble low basic hydrosilicates of calcium, hydrogarnets and minerals similar to natural hydroaluminates exhibited the highest corrosion resistance. The results of comparison suggested to draw a conclusion that the alkali-activated cements Types APC III-400 and ACC V-400, according to National Ukrainian Standard DSTU B V.2.7, had high corrosion resistance compared to that of OPC, thus allowing to recommend the developed cements for the concretes intended for use in aggressive environments, inclusive of sodium and magnesium sulphates and others. Coefficients of corrosion resistance of concretes are higher than 1 after even 42 months.

Combined with the technologies of underwater local dry laser cladding (ULDLC) and underwater local dry laser remelting (ULDLR), a duplex stainless steel (DSS) coating has been made in an underwater environment. The phase composition, microstructure, chemical components and electrochemical corrosion resistance was studied. The results show that after underwater laser remelting, the phase composition of DSS coating remains unchanged and the phase transformation from Widmanstätten austenite + intragranular austenite + (211) ferrite to (110) ferrite occurred. The ULDLR process can improve the corrosion resistance of the underwater local dry laser cladded coating. The corrosion resistance of remelted coating at 3 kW is the best, the corrosion resistance of remelted coating at 1kW and 5kW is similar and the corrosion resistance of (110) ferrite phase is better than grain boundary austenite phase. The ULDLC + ULDLR process can meet the requirements of efficient underwater maintenance, forming quality control and corrosion resistance. It can also be used to repair the surface of S32101 duplex stainless steel in underwater environment.

The work presents studies of a new ceramic-metallic material. The base is a ZrO2-Mo cermet which is modified with metallic Mo or Mo85Re15 alloy coating. The structure and microstructure of Mo85Re15 alloy powders and the composite were characterized. The annealing procedure was found to influence phase composition of powder composites but not their morphology. The plasma sprayed powders, both metallic and alloyed, form coatings that adhere well to the cermet substrate. The coatings show a better homogeneity in comparison to powders and more favourable phase composition. Keywords: cermets, plasma spraying, corrosion resistance
