With the ever-increasing advancements in the technology of driver assistant systems, there is a need for a comprehensive way to identify traffic conflicts to avoid collisions. Although significant research efforts have been devoted to traffic conflict techniques applied for junctions, there is dearth of research on these methods for motorways. This paper presents the validation of a traffic conflict prediction algorithm applied to a motorway scenario in a simulated environment. An automatic video analysis system was developed to identify lane change and rear-end conflicts as ground truth. Using these conflicts, the prediction ability of the traffic conflict technique was validated in an integrated simulation framework. This framework consisted of a sub-microscopic simulator, which provided an appropriate testbed to accurately simulate the components of an intelligent vehicle, and a microscopic traffic simulator able to generate the surrounding traffic. Results from this framework show that for a 10% false alarm rate, approximately 80% and 73% of rear-end and lane change conflicts were accurately predicted, respectively. Despite the fact that the algorithm was not trained using the virtual data, the sensitivity was high. This highlights the transferability of the algorithm to similar road networks, providing a benchmark for the identification of traffic conflict and a relevant step for developing safety management strategies for autonomous vehicles.

Abstract In vitro simulation of 3D shoulder motion using in vivo kinematics obtained from human subjects allows investigation of clinical conditions in the context of physiologically relevant biomechanics. Herein we present a framework for laboratory simulation of subject-specific kinematics that combines individual 3D scapular and humeral control in cadavers. The objectives were to: 1) robotically simulate 7 healthy subject-specific 3D scapulothoracic and glenohumeral kinematic trajectories in 6 cadavers, 2) characterize system performance using kinematic orientation accuracy and repeatability, and muscle force repeatability metrics and 3) analyze effects of input kinematics and cadaver specimen variability. Using an industrial robot to orient the scapula range of motion (ROM), errors with repeatability of ±0.1 mm and <0.5° were achieved. Using a custom robot and a trajectory prediction algorithm to orient the humerus relative to the scapula, orientation accuracy for glenohumeral elevation, plane of elevation, and axial rotation of <3° mean absolute error was achieved. Kinematic accuracy was not affected by varying input kinematics or cadaver specimens. Muscle forces over 5 repeated setups showed variability typically <33% relative to the overall simulations. Varying cadaver specimens and subject-specific human motions showed effects on muscle forces, illustrating that the system was capable of differentiating changes in forces due to input conditions. The anterior and middle deltoid, specifically, showed notable variations in patterns across the ROM that were affected by subject-specific motion. Conventional motion planners do not rely on previous experience when presented with a new problem. Trajectory prediction algorithms solve this problem using a pre-existing dataset at runtime. We propose instead using a conditional variational autoencoder (CVAE) to learn the distribution of the motion dataset and hence to generate trajectories for use as priors within the traditional motion planning approaches. We demonstrate, through simulations and by using an industrial robot arm with six degrees of freedom, that our trajectory prediction algorithm generates more collision-free trajectories compared to the linear initialization, and reduces the computation time of optimization-based planners.

The gripper is the most important part in an industrial robot. It is related with the environment around the robot. Today, the industrial robot grippers have to be tuned and custom made for each application by engineers, by searching to get the desired repeatability and behaviour. Vacuum suction is one of the grippers in Watch Case Press Production (WCPP) and a mechanism to improve the efficiency of the manufacturing procedure. Pick and place are the important process for the annealing process. Thus, by implementing vacuum suction gripper, the process of pick and place can be improved. The purpose of vacuum gripper other than design vacuum suction mechanism is to compare the effectiveness of vacuum suction gripper with the conventional pick and place gripper. Vacuum suction gripper is a mechanism to transport part and which later sequencing, eliminating and reducing the activities required to complete the process. Throughout this study, the process pick and place became more effective, the impact on the production of annealing process is faster. The vacuum suction gripper can pick all part at the production which will lower the loss of the productivity. In conclusion, vacuum suction gripper reduces the cycle time about 20%. Vacuum suction gripper can help lower the cycle time of a machine and allow more frequent process in order to increase the production flexibility.

Urgency of the research. Automated workplaces are growing up in present, especially with implementation of industrial robots with feasibility of various dispositions, where safety and risk assessment is considered as most important issues. Target setting. The protection of workers must be at the first place, therefore safety and risk assessment at automated workplaces is most important problematic, which had presented in this article Actual scientific researches and issues analysis. Actual research is much more focused at standard workplaces without industrial robots. So, missing of information from the field of automated workplaces in connection with various dispositions can be considered as added value of article. Uninvestigated parts of general matters defining. Despite to lot of general safety instructions in this area, still is missed clear view only at automated workplace with industrial robots. The research objective. The aim of article is to provide general instructions directly from the field of automated workplaces The statement of basic materials. For success realization of automated workplace is good to have a helping hand and orientation requirements needed for risk assessment at the workplace. Conclusions. The results published in this article increase the awareness and information of such automated workplaces, together with industrial robots. In addition, presented general steps and requirements helps persons for better realization of these types of workplaces, where major role takes an industrial robot. Our proposed solution can be considered as relevant base for risk assessment such workplaces with safety fences or light barriers.
