AbstractVarious recommender systems (RSs) have been developed over recent years, and many of them have concentrated on English content. Thus, the majority of RSs from the literature were compared on English content. However, the research investigations about RSs when using contents in other languages such as Arabic are minimal. The researchers still neglect the field of Arabic RSs. Therefore, we aim through this study to fill this research gap by leveraging the benefit of recent advances in the English RSs field. Our main goal is to investigate recent RSs in an Arabic context. For that, we firstly selected five state-of-the-art RSs devoted originally to English content, and then we empirically evaluated their performance on Arabic content. As a result of this work, we first build four publicly available large-scale Arabic datasets for recommendation purposes. Second, various text preprocessing techniques have been provided for preparing the constructed datasets. Third, our investigation derived well-argued conclusions about the usage of modern RSs in the Arabic context. The experimental results proved that these systems ensure high performance when applied to Arabic content.

Once a biorefinery is ready to operate, the main processed materials need to be completely evaluated in terms of many different factors, including disposal regulations, technological limitations of installation, the market, and other societal considerations. In biorefinery, glycerol is the main by-product, representing around 10% of biodiesel production. In the last few decades, the large-scale production of biodiesel and glycerol has promoted research on a wide range of strategies in an attempt to valorize this by-product, with its transformation into added value chemicals being the strategy that exhibits the most promising route. Among them, C3 compounds obtained from routes such as hydrogenation, oxidation, esterification, etc. represent an alternative to petroleum-based routes for chemicals such as acrolein, propanediols, or carboxylic acids of interest for the polymer industry. Another widely studied and developed strategy includes processes such as reforming or pyrolysis for energy, clean fuels, and materials such as activated carbon. This review covers recent advances in catalysts used in the most promising strategies considering both chemicals and energy or fuel obtention. Due to the large variety in biorefinery industries, several potential emergent valorization routes are briefly summarized.

At the beginning of this century, the Human Genome Project produced the first drafts of the human genome sequence. Following this, large-scale functional genomics studies were initiated to understand the molecular basis underlying the translation of the instructions encoded in the genome into the biological traits of organisms. Instrumental in the ensuing revolution in functional genomics were the rapid advances in massively parallel sequencing technologies as well as the development of a wide diversity of protocols that make use of these technologies to understand cellular behavior at the molecular level. Here, we review recent advances in functional genomic methods, discuss some of their current capabilities and limitations, and briefly sketch future directions within the field.

We outline the main arguments in favor of cosmological X-ray surveys of galaxy clusters. We summarize recent advances in our understanding of cluster physics. After a short review of past surveys, we present the scientific motivations of the XMM Large Scale Structure survey. We further illustrate how such a survey can help constrain the nature of the dark energy as well as cluster scaling law evolution, i.e. non-gravitational physics.

The RSE-M Code [1] provides rules and requirements for in-service inspection of French Pressurized Water Reactor power plant components. Non mandatory guidance is given in the Code for analytical flaw evaluation in a wide range of situations. In Appendix 5.4 of the Code, influence coefficients are provided to calculate stress intensity factors in pipes and shells containing semi-elliptical surface defects. The J assessment method is based on the reference stress concept with two options for reference loads evaluation: “CEP elastic plastic stress” and “CLC modified limit load”. In this paper recent advances concerning J assessment under mechanical loading for a crack located in a pipe-elbow junction are presented. Reference stress evaluation with “CLC” option is developed and mechanical foundations of the equation of large scale yielding under complex loading (pressure, in-plane and out-of-plane bending) are presented.

Electrospinning is a simple, versatile, cost-effective, and scalable technique for the growth of highly porous nanofibers. These nanostructures, featured by high aspect ratio, may exhibit a large variety of different sizes, morphologies, composition, and physicochemical properties. By proper post-spinning heat treatment(s), self-standing fibrous mats can also be produced. Large surface area and high porosity make electrospun nanomaterials (both fibers and three-dimensional fiber networks) particularly suitable to numerous energy-related applications. Relevant results and recent advances achieved by their use in rechargeable lithium- and sodium-ion batteries, redox flow batteries, metal-air batteries, supercapacitors, reactors for water desalination via capacitive deionization and for hydrogen production by water splitting, as well as nanogenerators for energy harvesting, and textiles for energy saving will be presented and the future prospects for the large-scale application of electrospun nanomaterials will be discussed.
