Campylobacter coli is considered one of the main causes of food-borne illness worldwide. We report here the whole-genome sequence of multidrug-resistant Campylobacter coli strain COL B1-266, isolated from the Colombian poultry chain. The genome sequences encode genes for a variety of antimicrobial resistance genes, including aminoglycosides, β-lactams, lincosamides, fluoroquinolones, and tetracyclines.

The complete genome sequence of a multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli strain isolated from a healthy pig in Cuba was determined using short and long reads. This strain carried four plasmids, including a 42,683-kb IncX1 plasmid, which contains the third-generation cephalosporin resistance gene bla CTX-M-32 together with other disinfectant and antibiotic resistance genes.

Escherichia coli is a commensal bacterium that is frequently associated with multidrug-resistant zoonotic and foodborne infections. Here, we report the 5.6-Mbp draft genome sequence of an E. coli recovered from poultry, which encodes multiple acquired antibiotic resistance determinants, virulence factors, pathogenicity determinants, and mobile genetic elements.

Abstract Background Infections caused by multidrug-resistant shigellae resistant to broad-spectrum cephalosporins are becoming more prevalent in the Middle East. We report a case of severe diarrhea due to a multiresistant Shigella flexneri 1 strain carrying four different ß-lactamase genes. Case presentation A one-year-old Syrian infant presented with severe acute diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration. She did not respond to empirical treatment with amoxicillin-clavulanic acid followed by cefotaxime. Later, stool culture revealed S. flexneri 1 resistant to both these drugs. The patient was successfully treated with meropenem to which S. flexneri 1 was susceptible. The isolate was resistant to eight classes of antibiotics, and the whole genome sequence (WGS) identified four ß-lactamase genes (blaCTX-M-15, blaEC-8, blaOXA-1, and blaTEM-1) along with genes mediating resistance to seven other antibiotic classes. The WGS also identified several virulence genes including senA that encodes ShET-2 which induces watery diarrhea. Phylogenetically, the isolate was closely related to isolates from South Asia. Conclusions This report highlights the emergence of extremely resistant Shigella that has acquired multiple resistance genes to cephalosporins rendering these drugs ineffective.

Streptococcus agalactiae is a major contagious pathogen causing bovine mastitis worldwide. We report here the draft sequence of S. agalactiae Ia strain M19, a multidrug-resistant isolate from a bovine mastitis case in Ningxia Hui autonomous region, China.
