The complete genome sequence of a multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli strain isolated from a healthy pig in Cuba was determined using short and long reads. This strain carried four plasmids, including a 42,683-kb IncX1 plasmid, which contains the third-generation cephalosporin resistance gene bla CTX-M-32 together with other disinfectant and antibiotic resistance genes.

ABSTRACT We report here the draft genome sequence of a multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli strain (NIVEDI-P44) isolated from a chicken fecal sample. The estimated genome size is 4.76 Mb, with a G+C content of 50.65%. The genome harbors multiple antibiotic resistance genes, bla DHA-1 , mph (A), strA , strB , dfrA14 , sul-2 , tet (A), and qnrS1 .

Escherichia coli is a commensal bacterium that is frequently associated with multidrug-resistant zoonotic and foodborne infections. Here, we report the 5.6-Mbp draft genome sequence of an E. coli recovered from poultry, which encodes multiple acquired antibiotic resistance determinants, virulence factors, pathogenicity determinants, and mobile genetic elements.

ABSTRACT In total, 12 quinolone-resistant Escherichia coli (QREC) strains containing qnrS1 were submitted to long-read sequencing using a FLO-MIN106 flow cell on a MinION device. The long reads were assembled with short reads (Illumina) and analyzed using the MOB-suite pipeline. Six of these QREC genome sequences were closed after hybrid assembly.

ABSTRACT We report here the draft genome sequence of the first isolated NDM-4-producing Escherichia coli strain, isolated from sewage water at a North Indian hospital. The genome has an assembly size of 5,076,053 bp, arranged in 129 contigs, with 5,271 genes and a G+C content of 50.47%.

Escherichia coli P50 is a canine uropathogenic isolate sampled in the Wellington region of New Zealand. We report the draft genome sequence of this isolate, which contains characteristic virulence genes for urinary tract infections and is predicted to be capable of causing human infections.

The carbapenem resistance gene bla NDM-5 was identified in an Escherichia coli strain isolated from a dog. We report here the complete genome sequence of this E. coli strain; the bla NDM-5 gene was present on a large IncFII multidrug-resistant plasmid. This is the first bla NDM-5-carrying E. coli strain from an animal in the United States.

ABSTRACTNew Delhi metallo-β-lactamase-3 (NDM-3) was identified in a multidrug-resistantEscherichia coliisolate, NCGM77, obtained from the feces of a patient in Japan. The enzymatic activities of NDM-3 against β-lactams were similar to those of NDM-1, although NDM-3 showed slightly lowerkcat/Kmratios for all the β-lactams tested except for doripenem. The genetic context forblaNDM-3wastnpA-blaNDM-3-bleMBL-trpF-dsbC-tnpA-sulI-qacEdeltaI-aadA2-dfrA1, which was present on an approximately 250-kb plasmid.

ABSTRACT Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is an important cause of bacterial diarrheal illness, affecting practically every population worldwide, and was estimated to cause 120,800 deaths in 2010. Here, we report the genome sequence of ETEC strain FMU073332, isolated from a 25-month-old girl from Tlaltizapán, Morelos, México.

ABSTRACTThis analysis of nearly 10,000 hospital-associated urinary tract infection (UTI) episodes due toEscherichia colishowed that fluoroquinolone and third-generation-cephalosporin resistance rates were 34.5% and 8.6%, respectively; the rate of concurrent resistance to both agents was 7.3%. Fluoroquinolone resistance rates exceeded 25% regardless of geographic location or hospital characteristics. The findings suggest that fluoroquinolones should be reserved and third-generation cephalosporins be used with caution as empirical agents for hospitalized patients with UTIs due toE. coli.
