Abstract The study is a comparative analysis of the characteristics of air temperature and atmospheric precipitations in winter seasons from the WMO reference periods (1961 - 1990, 1981 – 2010) compared with last 7 years (2010 – 2016). There is a continuous increase of air temperature in winter, from −2,0°C between 1961-1990, to −1,1°C between 2010-2016, so a heating of 0,9°C. In the last 7 years (2010-2016) the average number of frosty nights (nights with minimum temperature of ≤ −10°C) was reduced by 18% compared to the period 1961-1990 and by 3% compared to the period 1981-2010. In the same period (2010 – 2016), the rainfall were higher in winter, respectively by 17% than during 1961-1990 and by 22% than during 1981-2010. There is an increase of torrential character of precipitation, more pronounced in the southern region of Moldova.

The Climate of an area cannot be considered isolated. The climate of certain regions is the refraction of the General laws in a speci c situation. So weather conditions in high mountainous regions of the Caucasus depend on altitudinal zonation circulation of the atmosphere, geographical position, peculiarities of the vegetation cover and other factors. The results of this study are veyears treatment data on the air temperature in the atmospheric surface layer and their comparative analysis. These results obtained at the meteorological station located in Bezengi valley, Kabardino Balkar highmountain reserve.

The thermal environment inside a fully-enclosed subway noise barrier shall be designed according to underground section tunnel standards. This article constructs a model using practical examples, simulates calculations on fully-enclosed noise barrier installations both with and without air vents via a threedimensional numerical simulation method, and then conducts a comparative analysis of the effects noise barrier lengths and air vent widths have on an internal thermal environment. The calculation results show that when the length of the fully-enclosed noise barrier without air vents was 100m, the internal thermal environment exceeded the limit; as the width of the air vents increased, the temperature in the internal environment gradually decreased, but the reduction was less once the air vent width exceeded 2 m; When the top air vent width was 2 m, and the noise barrier length was 100m, the thermal environment was found to meet requirements. As the noise barrier length increased, the internal air temperature exceeded the standards by varying degrees.

Climate change that has occurred at the end of the last and at the beginning of this century, among other things, has a certain impact on forests as well. For the territory of Eastern Serbia, for two periods of climate observations, the reference period 1961-1990 and the period 1991-2012, a comparative analysis of the following climatic elements was done: air temperature, amount of precipitation and relative humidity of air. Calculations were performed on the basis of collected and systematized data from 11 meteorological stations (6 synoptic/main climatological and 5 regular climatological) that were part of the Republic Hydrometeorological Service, situated in the area of Eastern Serbia. Analysis of the anomalies of air temperature and precipitation as indicators of climate change for the period 1991-2012 compared to the reference period 1961-1990 was done separately for each of the four seasons (winter, spring, summer, autumn) and summarized for each period. The results of the comparative analysis show that in the period 1991-2012 compared to the reference period 1961-1990, there was an increase in the average annual air temperature, as well as the increase in the average air temperature for all four seasons, and a decrease in the average annual amounts of precipitation and the decrease in the relative humidity of air.

Turnouts are key parts of rail roads and are exposed to adverse weather conditions such as snowfall, snow drifts, low temperatures, or sleet. Effective protection assures good turnout function and contributes to rail traffic efficiency and safety. Presently, resistance heating (RH) is the most common system of turnout heating in Europe. In this study, we attempted to implement energy-saving induction heating (IH) in order to cut costs of operation and electricity. A turnout heating test stand, including a stock-rail and a switch-rail, was executed in a climatic chamber. Air temperature was constant at the time of heating. Active power received by both the systems was identical for any measurement (450 W). Test results enabled an assessment of switch-rail position and variations of climatic chamber air temperature on growth of turnout temperatures. Effects of heating type on correct lubrication of the slide plate surface were compared. Dynamics of heating variations and their impact on effectiveness of snow or ice removal were defined for both heating systems. Turnout’s readiness for switch-rail shifting and lubrication conditions of turnout’s moving parts were compared. An in-depth comparative analysis of efficiency of RH and IH turnout heating was undertaken in the conclusion.

A comparative analysis of the main types of power equipment and transmissions of drives for running equipment for quarry vehicles was performed. The interrelations of the constructive schemes of drives of running equipment with traction class and carrying capacity of quarry vehicles are shown. Dependence of diesel engine power on air temperature and atmospheric pressure is revealed. An analysis of design schemes of transmissions of running equipment is given. Based on the evaluation of the design schemes, the directions for improving the drives of running equipment for quarry vehicles are given. As a result of the analysis of various types of drives and power equipment, it was revealed that when assembling the base machine, an individual approach should be applied.

A comparative analysis of the performances of three outdoor swimming pools for private use with different types of covers is presented in this paper. They are designed to take advantage of solar irradiation to maintain the swimming pool temperature within certain acceptable limits, so that the swimming pool can be used during most of the year under South-Europe climatic conditions. In this region, the annual global irradiation is of the order of 1800 kWh/m2 and air temperature is in the range from 0°C to 40°C during the whole year. No auxiliary boosting is used to heat the swimming pools.
