Background:The first Active Healthy Kids Spanish Report Card aims to gather the most robust information about physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior of children and adolescents. Methods:A Research Working Group of experts on PA and sport sciences was convened. A comprehensive data search, based on a review of the literature, dissertations, gray literature, and experts’ nonpublished data, was conducted to identify the best sources to grade each indicator following the procedures and methodology outlined by the Active Healthy Kids Canada Report Card model. Results:Overall PA (based on objective and self-reported methods) was graded as D-, Organized Sports Participation as B, Active Play as C+, Active Transportation as C, Sedentary Behavior as D, School as C, and Family and Peers as Incomplete, Community and the Built Environment as Incomplete, and Government as Incomplete. Conclusions:Spanish children and adolescents showed low levels of adherence to PA and sedentary behavior guidelines, especially females and adolescents. There is a need to achieve consensus and harmonize methods to evaluate PA and sedentary behavior to monitor changes over time and to evaluate the effectiveness of policies to promote PA.

Dental biofilm-induced gingivitis is extremely common in children and adolescents and it affects the majority of children over 7 years old. It is characterised by inflammation, consisting in changes of colour, size, consistency and texture. Although most of the times gingivitis does not progress into periodontitis, it is important to diagnose and properly treat this disease, as gingivitis precedes periodontitis. The present paper aims to review the main findings of microbial etiology and epidemiology of dental biofilm-induced gingivitis mediated by local risk factors, as well as the role of oral hygiene in preventing bacterial colonization.

The goal of this study was to explore coaches’ beliefs about the role of child and adolescent shyness in team sports. Participants were (N = 496) coaches of children and adolescents from team sport organizations across Canada. Coaches responded to open-ended questions asking about the benefits of team sports participation for shy children and adolescents, as well as the special contributions that shy team members may make to a sports team. Among the results, coaches cited improvements in social skills most often as the primary benefits of engaging in team sports for shy team members. Coaches most frequently listed promoting social inclusion, quiet leadership, and being coachable as specific contributions of shy team members. Some age differences were also noted. Results are discussed in terms of implications of shyness for children and adolescents who participate in organized team sports.

The purpose of writing this article is to determine the impact of terrorism on children and adolescents who live in the area of terror. The method used is the method of systematic literature review (SLR). SLR is a method that identifies, evaluates, and interprets findings on a research topic to answer a predetermined research question. From planning, conducting and reporting it can be concluded that terrorism has had a traumatic impact on many people, especially children and adolescents. The impact of terrorism can be experienced by children and adolescents in those who live at the scene of terror and children and adolescents of families of terrorists who experience negative stigma from the community as a family of terrorists. Children and adolescents affected by terrorism experience crucial problems to be able to rise up and undergo their psychological development naturally and without the pressure of trauma so that they need certain counseling so that they get up and are optimistic about their life's journey and the next stages of development. The recommendation of this study is the need for counseling to take on the role of strategy as an effort to build positive attitudes of children in facing the next stage of life so that they can undergo and realize career development positively as is usual for children and other adolescents who are not affected by terrorism. Moreover, learning from many countries, the government as a state representative must continue to be encouraged to care and dare to build a strong willingness to form institutions and regulatory frameworks for counseling services in many fields for increasingly diverse needs, especially the handling and prevention of trauma from the impact of terrorism.

Academic achievement in immigrant children and adolescents is an indicator of current and future adaptive success. Since the future of immigrant youths is inextricably linked to that of the receiving society, the success of their trajectory through school becomes a high stakes issue both for the individual and society. The present article focuses on school success in immigrant children and adolescents, and the role of school engagement in accounting for individual and group differences in academic achievement from the perspective of a multilevel integrative model of immigrant youths’ adaptation ( Motti-Stefanidi, Berry, Chryssochoou, Sam, & Phinney, 2012 ). Drawing on this conceptual framework, school success is examined in developmental and acculturative context, taking into account multiple levels of analysis. Findings suggest that for both immigrant and nonimmigrant youths the relationship between school engagement and school success is bidirectional, each influencing over time the other. Evidence regarding potential moderating and mediating roles of school engagement for the academic success of immigrant youths also is evaluated.
