Films of methyl cellulose (MC) /chitosan blends were prepared via solution casting technique and their properties with different amount of ammonium trilate, NH4CF3SO3 were compared. Measurements of conductivity as a function of frequency at room temperature on these films were carried out using HIOKI 3532-50 LCR Hi-Tester where the frequency was set between 50 Hz to 1 MHz. Samples having 40 wt% of NH4CF3SO3 exhibit the highest room temperature conductivity of (4.99±4.18) x 10-6 Scm-1. Dielectric data were analyzed using complex permittivity and complex electrical modulus for the sample with the highest ionic conductivity.

Siderite or ferrous carbonate [Formula: see text] is a well-known mineral and finds applications in various fields such as dietary supplement to treat anemia and in petroleum drilling fluids for [Formula: see text] removal. The FeCO3 nano-particles are synthesized by hydrothermal method using aqueous solutions of iron sulfate, ascorbic acid and ammonium carbonate with a molar ratio of 1:1:3, respectively, and heating at [Formula: see text]C for 1.5 h in Teflon-lined stainless steel autoclave. The recovered sample is characterized by several techniques. The powder XRD indicates the hexagonal crystal system and the average crystallite size of 17.32 nm are obtained from the Scherrer’s formula and 18.98 nm is obtained from the Williamson and Hall formula. The TEM images suggest the spherical nature of the nano-particles. The EDX confirms the elemental presence of iron, carbon and oxygen. The impedance and dielectric studies are carried out within 20 Hz–2 MHz range at room temperature. The complex impedance plot, i.e. the Nyquist plot, is composed of one semicircle indicating the contribution from the grain only. The Jonscher’s power-law is applied to AC conductivity data. The VSM data at room temperature and at low temperature, i.e. 20–300 K range, suggests a weak antiferromagnetic nature of the sample.

Cerium doped barium titanate is prepared by conventional ceramic method. The dielectric studies of Ba1-x Cex TiO3 have been accomplished at room temperature over a frequency range 75 KHz to 30 MHz for x = 0.1 to 0.4 with pure BaTiO3. The measurements of the real and imaginary part of dielectric constants show strong frequency dependence. The relaxation phenomena that take place cane be attributable to the damping of dipole oscillator due to the application of external field. In the present experiment relaxation occurs at the frequency of about - 1MHZ. doi: 10.3329/jbas.v32i1.2445 Journal of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, Vol. 32, No. 1, 79-85, 2008

Here we report the investigations on Sm -substituted PZTFN ( Pb 1-x Sm x Zr 0.588 Ti 0.392 Fe 0.01 Nb 0.01 O 3) (where x = 0, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, 0.08, 0.10) polycrystalline solid solutions fabricated by solid-state reaction method. XRD analysis shows all the samples to be single phase with tetragonal structure. Dielectric measurements were carried out in the temperature range 30°C–400°C at different frequencies in the range 100 Hz to 100 kHz. From the temperature variation of dielectric constant (ε), Curie temperature (TC) was determined which was found to decrease with increasing x. The room temperature dielectric constant (ε RT ) initially increases with increasing x and then starts decreasing. Dielectric loss improves with Sm -doping.

Temperature variation powder XRD measurements reveal that SmNbO4 undergoes a phase transition around 800 °C. SmNbO4 possesses a monoclinic fergusonite structure at ambient temperature and a tetragonal scheelite structure above the transition temperature. We report the stabilization of this high temperature phase at room temperature.

Enzyme doped polypyrrole polymer were synthesized by in situ polymerization where ferric chloride works as an oxidizing agent. The different weight percent of papain was added at the time of polymerization. The polypyrrole-papain composite of various composition was analyzed for its dielectric and a. c. conductivity by using LCR meter at room temperature. Dielectric constant and loss decreases, with escalation in frequency. The variation in dielectric constant and dielectric loss was also noted with change in papain percentage in pyrrole.

This paper focuses on the dielectric constant (ε′), dielectric loss factor (ε″) and frequency dependent conductivity (σac) properties of newly prepared poly(vinylalcohol) (PVA) chitosan (CS) composite films incorporated with different concentrations of LiClO 4. The composite films were prepared using solution casting technique. The complexation between salt and polymer host is confirmed by FT Raman and UV-Vis studies. The sample containing 20 wt.% LiClO 4 exhibits a highest ionic conductivity of 3 × 10-6 S/cm at room temperature. The dielectric properties of the composites follow non-Debye behavior.
