Ukrainians are the eleventh largest ethnic group in Canada. Ukrainian books are important for the development of the Ukrainian diaspora, as well as for preserving and advancing the Ukrainian national culture, traditions, and language in Canada. The article analyzes the research of local and foreign scientists on this topic and provides insights into the presence of the Western Ukrainian books in Canadian libraries and in Canadian public and governmental institutions. The article investigates the details of the creation of the libraries where the researched publications are stored. The author has classified Canadian book collections that hold Ukrainian publications: scientific libraries at universities and other higher education institutions; archival institutions; Ukrainian community organizations; religious institutions; public libraries with Ukrainian collections; private Ukrainian libraries. This paper highlights the role of prominent figures of the Ukrainian diaspora in stocking Canadian libraries with Ukrainian books. We have examined how Western Ukrainian books of 1914–1939 made their way to Canadian libraries. An analysis of the catalogues of the Ukrainian bookstores in Canada has been conducted. Rare copies of these catalogues are in the holdings of the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv. The article highlights the role of the Internet sources in determining the availability of Western Ukrainian books in Canadian libraries. Most of these libraries have online catalogues. The prospects of using electronic library resources and digital editions to conduct research in the field of Ukrainian book bibliography are outlined. The presence of the Ukrainian books of 1914–1939 in Canadian libraries is recorded in the bibliographic index «Ukrainian book in Galicia, Bukovina, Transcarpathia, Volyn and in emigration, 1914–1939» compiled by the scientific bibliography researchers of the Vasyl Stefanyk National Scientific Library of Ukraine in Lviv. Some of the Ukrainian books of 1919–1934 held in Canadian libraries and mentioned in the bibliographic index are the only copies of these books available worldwide. Keywords: Ukrainian diaspora, Western Ukrainian book, interwar period (1914–1939), Canadian libraries, electronic database of book publications

Electronic library resources are believed to be recent development in the world of internet. However, access to electronic library resources appears to be lacking, and thus has become a major issue of concern among electronic libraries resources users, particularly the students. As a result, this study investigates the determinants of electronic library resources access in Saudi Arabia higher institutions. Specifically, it examined the relationship between two key variables and electronic library resources among the students of Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. Cross-sectional survey forms the research design while the population of the study covered all the students in Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. The sample size was determined using the formula by Tabachnick and Fidell (2001) with a sample of 128. The data collection was conducted using email procedure while the collected quantitative data was analysed using both correlation and regression analysis techniques. The findings revealed that the relationship between electronic library resources availability and electronic library resources access is statistically significant. Also, the finding shows that ease of use is statistically related to electronic library resources access among the students in higher institution. Therefore, the study concludes that electronic library resources availability significantly affects electronic library resources access among the students. Secondly, it is concluded that ease of use has a lot of impacts on the electronic library resources access among the students. The study offers several implications and suggestions for future studies.

This study investigated the influence of computer self-efficacy, computer anxiety, and cognitive skills on the use of electronic library resources by social science undergraduates in a tertiary institution in Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted and stratified random sampling technique was used to select 869 sample size from a population of 1452 social science undergraduates across five departments. A total of 793 questionnaire was properly filled and collated which equals a response rate of 91.3% from the population sample. Findings from the study revealed that there were significant relationships among computer selfefficacy, computer anxiety, cognitive skills, and use of electronic library resources by the respondents. Computer self-efficacy, computer anxiety, and cognitive skills individually and jointly had a significant influence on the use of electronic library resources of the respondents. Therefore, library management in the tertiary institution should give due consideration to computer self-efficacy, computer anxiety, and cognitive skills of the respondents when planning to enhance their use of electronic library resources among others.

This study considered the development, awareness, adoption, and usage of digital library (DL) resources at the university level. To develop and implement a successful electronic library resource system, it is vital to review the success factors and identify the most important technological aspects of DL resources. Electronic library information technology was described and grouped into several categories that influence user satisfaction in a DL context. These are open access to information, the facility of access, uncomplicated interface design, high quality of the communication process, Internet performance, performance assurance service, ease of communication via social network, and patron-driven acquisition. With these important features of DL services, the simplicity of accessing online information and the performance of DL utilities have become of paramount importance. Several research works were therefore reviewed and evaluated to determine the usability of DL services; thereafter, the design of the DL discovery system was developed through Blacklight open-source software.

From March 4 - May 31 2002, The Open University Library piloted a new, instant messaging enquiry service for use by its distance learners, called Librarians On Call. The service enabled OU distance learners to remain online using electronic library resources, whilst also obtaining instant help from a librarian, without the need to disconnect from the internet to use the telephone. Student reaction to the service was overwhelmingly positive, and as a result the Open University has decided to continue the Librarians On Call service. Exit surveys conducted with students indicated students preferred the Librarians On Call service to both email and the telephone, and that they found the service both beneficial and easy to use. The article details the results of the pilot, and also discusses some of the practical issues encountered whilst setting up the service, such as software selection and staffing.

A number of studies have focused on the use of e-libraries, drawing numerous conclusions about the use and challenges facing e-libraries. This article therefore presents a review of the literature on the use of e-libraries in universities with a particular interest in Nigerian institutions. The article examines the concepts and the antecedents of electronic libraries. The review shows that a number of approaches have been used to assess the use of e-libraries, and that computer self-efficacy has an impact on the performance while technological innovation, by extension, enhances the satisfactory use of electronic library systems. In addition, the review underscores the fact that there are few studies that pay attention to the satisfactory usage of electronic libraries in Nigerian universities. The article thus concludes by restating the important roles those e-libraries play in information service delivery. Recommendations for further studies on the mode and modalities with which effective training is conducted especially in the area of information search skills are made.
