Facile synthesis of silica composite films with good mechanical property for spectrally broadband antireflection coatings

Due to their unique physicochemical properties, polysilazanes exhibit excellent performance when combined with some resin matrixes, which had drawn great research attention. In this article, polyurethane (PU) was firstly prepared by polytetrahydrofuran glycol, isophorone diisocyanate, and 1,4-butanediol as main materials. Then, the prepared PU was blended with polysilazane by mixing the two solutions together, which was cured to films via dip-coating method at room temperature. The structure, thermal stability, and surface properties of the composite coatings were investigated by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The results demonstrated that after modification with polysilazane, the heat resistance, hydrophobicity, and mechanical property of the PU coatings were improved. When the content of polysilazane was 6 wt%, the mechanical property of the composite films was optimized, with a maximum tensile strength of 25.7 MPa and elongation at break of 797%. Meanwhile, the water contact angle of the composite film was 107° and the water absorption reached a minimum of 2.1%, which showed improved hydrophobicity and water resistance.

In this study, agricultural residue from black oat, a cover crop usually grown to improve soil nutrients between the periods of regular crop production, was used as a source of cellulose fibers. Concentrations of 1, 3, and 5 wt. % of regenerated cellulose (RC) fibers blended in poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) solution were used to prepare the reinforced composite films (CFs) by the solvent cast method. Compared to neat PVA film (control), the effects of RC addition on functional properties of CFs, such as water absorption, transparency, thermal stability, and mechanical property were investigated. All CFs with different RC concentrations exhibited improved mechanical property and thermal stability while the swelling property was decreased, and no significant changes were observed in the film transparency as compared with the control film. Among the CFs, films with 3% RC significantly decreased water vapor transmission rate, swelling, and soluble fraction (p < 0.05). In addition, Young’s modulus and tensile strength were increased by 40 MPa and 3 MPa, respectively, while elongation at break was decreased by 4%, compared to the control film. The results indicate that RC from black oat might be feasible as potential bio fillers to improve film properties in a bio-based composite matrix.

Cement-stabilized macadam has good mechanical property, but also has the advantages of plate nature, water stability and frost resistance, and it is widely used in the pavement base or sub-base course of expressway. Based on the fundamental mechanical theory of the strength and the global stability of cement stabilization macadam, this article discusses how to design the grading of the cement stabilization macadam and the influencing factors, besides, it also presents the construction control methods of the cement stabilization macadam, which is of guiding significance to the design and construction of the cement stabilization macadam.
