Linezolid can cause serious haematological toxicity, such as thrombocytopenia and aneamia. Heme, composed of iron and porphyrin, is an important component of hemoglobin. In order to investigate the relationship between the concentration of linezolid and heme in the plasma of infected patients, a UPLC-MS/MS method that can determine the concentrations of linezolid and heme simultaneously was developed and validated. A total of 96 healthy subjects and 81 infected patients, who received blood routine blood tests, were included and determined by the UPLC-MS/MS method. The results showed that the concentration of linezolid was 5.08 ± 3.46   μ g / mL in infected patients who were treated with linezolid. The heme in healthy subjects was 7.05 ± 8.68   μ g / mL , and it was significantly decreased to 0.88 ± 0.79   μ g / mL in infected patients ( P < 0.01 ). Spearman correlation analysis showed that linezolid had a high negative correlation with platelet (PLT) ( R = − 0.309 ). Heme had a high positive correlation with hemoglobin (Hb) ( R = 0.249 ) in healthy subjects and infected patients. The ROC analysis showed that heme had diagnostic value to distinguish low Hb (110 g/L). In conclusion, there was a positive correlation between heme and Hb, and this correlation was also observed in infected patients. A high concentration of linezolid was inclined to decrease PLT. Monitoring of heme and linezolid helps in the early diagnose of low Hb and PLT.

Abstract A new analytical solution is presented for determining equivalent Mohr-Coulomb (MC) shear strength parameters over an arbitrary interval of minor principal stress σ3 from the generalised Hoek-Brown (HB) criterion using least squares method. Comparison with several published examples demonstrates that the proposed solution had a capacity to accurately determine equivalent MC parameters over a given interval of σ3, as well as instantaneous MC parameters by using a very small interval of σ3. EMC parameters depended heavily on the interval of σ3, which highlighted the importance of intervals of σ3. A calculation case shows that the equivalent internal friction angle and cohesion over the interval of σ3 from tension cut-off σcut−off to maximum minor principal stress σ3max were approximately 12% smaller and 10.3% larger than those over an interval from tensile strength to σ3max, respectively. The proposed solution offers great flexibility for the application of the HB criterion with existing methods based on the MC criterion for rock engineering practice.

Abstract A method was developed for the direct determination of free methionine in soy-based infant formula, with analyte separation and quantitation by reversed-phase liquid chromatography (LC), and UV absorbance at 214 nm, respectively. Sample preparation required only dilution with mobile phase and syringe filtration. Using a 0.02M KH 2 PO 4 mobile phase (pH adjusted to 2.9 with 85% o-phosphoric acid) and 0.7 mL/min flow rate, methionine eluted at approximately 8 min, and total run time was 14 min after column regeneration with acetonitrile–water. System linearity was demonstrated as peak area versus analyte concentration, ranging from 80 to 120% of the formula specification for free methionine (r > 0.999, and all residuals <0.45%). Intermediate precision relative standard deviation values were <1.5% for ready-to-feed and reconstituted powder samples, and recoveries ranged from 98.0 to 103.5% for inter-method comparison with an amino acid analyzer method. The limit of quantitation was 3 mg methionine/L in the “as fed” infant formula. Despite the relatively weak UV absorptivity of methionine, the 214 nm signal was sufficiently intense in the 30–65 mg/L (201–436 μM) range to afford quantitation by peak area proportionation versus a 2-point external standard calibration. This direct UV detection after reversed-phase LC separation provides a simple and accurate method for determining free methionine without derivatization.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlations between fundus autofluorescence and morphologic parameters as well as visual function in patients with diabetic macular oedema treated with intravitreal ziv-aflibercept. Methods: A total of 34 eyes of 20 patients with untreated diabetic macular oedema received an intravitreal injection of ziv-aflibercept at baseline, and 1 and 2 months later. The baseline, 1-month, and two-month best corrected visual acuity determination, contrast sensitivity, spectral domain optical coherence tomography, mean central macular thickness, mean macular cube volume, mean macular cube average thickness, and fundus autofluorescence (decreased, normal, or increased; and single or multiple spots) were measured. Correlation analysis with a determination of Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient, regression analysis, agreement between investigators, and Friedman’s test were used for statistical analyses. Results: A direct correlation was observed between baseline fundus autofluorescence and macular cube average thickness at 1 month (r = 0.51, p = 0.020) and between fundus autofluorescence at 1 month and baseline macular cube average thickness (r = 0.50, p = 0.021). Regression analysis showed a coefficient of determination of 0.29 (p = 0.016) between baseline fundus autofluorescence and macular cube average thickness at 1 month. Conclusion: In patients with diabetic macular oedema, the pretreatment baseline degree of foveal fundus autofluorescence might be helpful in predicting macular cube average thickness in patients undergoing treatment with intravitreal ziv-aflibercept in the short term.

The aim of present work is monitoring thermal decomposition tested samples depending on distance of ignition source, subsequent generation of flame and flameless combustion. Tested samples are used to produce biofuel in form of pellets, which can be made of spruce wood (Picea excelsa, L.) and beech wood (Fagus sylvatica) and have a direct effect on the properties of these pellets. Measurements are carried out according to standard STN ISO 871:2010 Determination of ignition temperature using a hot-air furnace. External ignition source (electrically heated spiral of the wire canthal) is used to analyze different conditions of test samples. Distance between external ignition source and tested samples is 10, 50 and 90 mm. The experiments are performed at an air flow rate 38, 25, 12,5 and 0 mm.s-1. The results show the rate of loss of weight and the flow rates of the material of the test samples at the different test conditions.
