Optimization of business process assists in efficient organization of business process. For the success of optimization of business process, a simulation model based on gap processes for the analysis of buyers' burstiness in business process has been proposed. However, the model has to be validated. The aim of the research is to implement a validation approach to the simulation model based on gap processes for the optimization of business process underpinning elaboration of a new research question on the model validity. The meaning of the key concepts of “validation,” “model validation,” and “model validation approach” is studied. The results of the present research show that the application of real system measurements validates the simulation model for the optimization of business process. The novel contribution of the manuscript is revealed in the newly created research question on the proposed model validity. Directions of future research are proposed.

There are some defects in the traditional over-running load hydraulic system, such as velocity control is poor and prone to velocity jitter, etc. In order to improve these weaknesses, the components and work principle of the separate meter in and separate meter out (SMISMO) were introduced and the actuator’s feature were analyzed , the simulation model of hydraulic studied system was built, the factors affecting the stability of the system are discussed in this paper. Simulation and experiment showed that the novel control system possessed higher velocity control precise and good stable characteristics.

The ability of host discrimination allows insect parasitoids to avoid superparasitism (oviposition in a previously attacked host). However, superparasitism can sometimes be adaptive, so attempts to identify host discrimination must be made under appropriate ecological conditions. We tested the ability of the parasitoid wasp Trissolcus basalis to discriminate between self- and conspecific-parasitised hosts (conspecific discrimination) under ecologically realistic conditions, in which conspecific discrimination should be adaptive. Data were analysed using a Monte Carlo simulation model that permitted testing of several different ways in which conspecific discrimination could be achieved. We obtained the novel result that females avoided self-superparasitism on a patch consisting of a mixture of self- and conspecific-parasitised hosts, but that this avoidance was not due to true conspecific discrimination. Instead, it was due to short- term discrimination between newly and previously parasitised hosts. Two likely mechanisms for such discrimination are proposed: a short-lived host-derived volatile; and the presence of two or more chemical components in the marking pheromone.

Current research suggests that the performance of electric vehicle with a single-speed transmission can still be widely improved. The novel two-speed uninterrupted transmission consists of a single-row planetary, a centrifugal clutch, a brake, and two motor controlling clutch and brake. Changing the switch of clutch and brake can achieve two-speed uninterrupted gearshifts. Different from the traditional centrifugal clutch, a novel adjustable device is specifically designed to control the switch of clutch. Torque characteristics of clutch prototype are displayed. Some differences of the gearshift methodology are specifically designed to compensate for the characteristics of the electric traction motor and the adjustable centrifugal clutch. The specific simulation model is established according to the novel uninterrupted transmission prototype. The dynamic characteristics of the two-speed uninterrupted transmission system are analyzed. The higher utilization ratio of the traction motor power increases the efficiency of the traction motor with the novel two-speed uninterrupted transmission.

Incidental durotomies, or dural tears, can be very difficult and time consuming to repair properly when they are encountered in confined spaces. A novel dural repair device was developed to address these situations. In this paper, the novel device was assessed against the use of traditional tools and techniques for dural repairs in two independent studies using an intricate clinical simulation model. The aim was to examine the results of the two assessments and link the outcomes to the clinical use of the novel device in the operating room. The novel device outperformed conventional techniques as measured by dural repair time, CSF leak pressure and nerve root avoidance in the simulation. The results were generally replicable clinically, however, numerous additional clinical scenarios were also encountered that the simulation model was unable to capture due to various inherent limitations. The simulation model design, potential contributors to watertightness, clinical experiences, and limitation are discussed.

Earning profits in business promotes optimization of business processes. For the analysis of business processes, realistic simulation models are an important prerequisite. The research question is as follows: What is business process based on gap processes? The aim of the research is to carry out mathematical analysis of gap processes underpinning elaboration of a simulation model for optimization of a bursty business process. The meanings of such key concepts as “bursty business process,” “binary customer behavior,” “gap,” and “gap processes” are studied. In this chapter, a new simulation model is presented that allows a realistic analysis of business process based on gap processes. The model is based on the assumption that the gaps between two buyers are statistically independent on each other, which has been proofed as a good practical approximation. The novel contribution of the manuscript is revealed in the newly created simulation model based on gap processes. Directions of further research are indicated.

A new topology for simultaneous AC-DC distribution along the same line is proposed in this paper to integrate DC power with the existing alternating current (AC) distribution, which incorporates a zigzag transformer and a boost chopper. The zigzag transformer is utilized to achieve either coupling or decoupling of the AC and DC power without sensible iron-core saturation due to voltage canceling out on one phase. The boost chopper is used to achieve DC power flow and keep the DC ratings at each node. A simulation model of the novel topology is established with PSCAD software, and detailed comparison verifies that the new topology with a zigzag transformer is preferable to that with a common transformer for simultaneous AC-DC distribution scheme, indicating a promising future of the proposed technology.
