AbstractIntra-plant transport systems within their operation directly impact on the performance of production systems. For their effective operation, it is, therefore, necessary to realize evaluation of operational performance and effectivity. For the realization of this type of evaluation, in addition to a wide range of sensors that can be difficult for installation and operation, we can also use indirect methods that are equally able to provide reliable operational characteristics. Indirect analytical methods are presented above all by the approach which is based on the use of simulation methods. The method of computer simulation provides a wide range of options for the evaluation of efficiency and performance. The paper describes the use of a simulation model created in the program Tecnomatix Plant Simulation for analyzing the supply of production workplaces within the MilkRun system.

This paper discusses the stochastic analysis and performance evaluation of condensate system of a thermal plant. These opportunities will be identified by evaluation of a simulation model to be built for the condensate system. The present system under study consists of six subsystems A, B, C, D, E, and F arranged in series with two feasible states: working and failed. After drawing transition diagram, differential equations are generated and then a probabilistic simulated simulation model using Markov approach has been developed considering some assumptions. Performance matrix for each subsystem is also developed, which provide various availability levels. On the basis of this study, performance of each subsystem of condensate system is evaluated and then maintenance decisions are made for subsystems. Key words: Transition diagram; Markov approach; Performance matrix; Maintenance decisions. DOI: 10.3329/bjsir.v44i4.4587 Bangladesh J. Sci. Ind. Res. 44(4), 387-398, 2009

The present work is focused on the development of a simulation model for an existing cogeneration power plant, which utilizes a solar thermal field with parabolic trough solar collectors coupled to an Organic Rankine Cycle engine. The power plant is modeled in the trnsys v.17 software package and its performance has been validated with real operating conditions. The simulated system (concentrated solar power (CSP) field and ORC engine) is the main part of a hybrid power plant located near “Ziloti” village of the Municipality of Xanthi, in northeastern Greece. The construction of the hybrid power plant was funded by the Strategic Co-Funded Project of the European Territorial Cooperation Program Greece–Bulgaria 2007–2013 with the acronym ENERGEIA. The power plant simulated in this paper includes a 234 kWth solar parabolic trough collector (PTC) field, a 5 m3 thermal energy storage tank, and a 5 kWe ORC engine for the production of thermal and electrical energies. The results of the simulations present small deviation in contrast to the real operating data of the CSP power plant coupled with the ORC engine, therefore the simulation model is considered as reliable.

Accurate performance simulation can provide operating parameters and performance parameters for the gas turbine’s optimization, maintenance, and fault diagnosis. However, the components maps necessary for performance simulation are not publically available. In addition, the same type of gas turbine has slightly different component operating characteristics due to components′ variations in status and assembly tolerance. These causes bring real difficulties to the research of performance simulation. In order to obtain accurate components characteristics and performance simulation results, the original or generic components maps should be modified by the scaling factors. In the process of calculating scaling factors, the simulation model is applied repeatedly to determine the engine’s actual performance parameters until the simulated gas path thermal parameters are compatible with the actual measureable data. This paper introduces a new adaptation method and substitutes the calculation model with the simulation model in the adaptation process. It directly calculates the mass flow rate, isentropic efficiency, and pressure ratio of compressor and turbine based on measureable parameters such as gas path temperature, pressure, fuel component and mass flow rate. Moreover, this paper introduces the virtual gas generator model that enhances the applicability of calculation model based performance adaptation method on gas generators with different structures. This method has been applied to GE PGT25+ gas generator (single-spool) and RR RB211-24G gas generator (double-spool). Compared with the simulation model used in adaptation process, performance calculation model is much simpler and less time consuming.

This article take the Dongan 465Q non-supercharged engine as the research object, the simulation model is built by GT-POWER and the corresponding test bench is set up. The simulation error is less than 3%, which indicates that the parameters of this model is correct, and can be used for further study of the gasoline engine. The supercharger, Garrett GT12, is selected by the matching calculation. The non-supercharged 465Q engine is modified as a turbocharged engine. The test results show that the power and the fuel consumption of the turbocharged engine is improved obviously, whose power is increased by 48% and fuel consumption is reduced by 4%.

In hot-forming die-quenching (HFDQ) boron manganese steel blanks are heated within a roller hearth furnace, and then simultaneously quenched and formed into fully martensitic body-in-white components. Industry needs models that can predict the instantaneous temperature and austenite phase fraction within the roller furnace to diagnose problems (e.g., incomplete austenitization), forecast costs, and optimize process settings. This paper introduces a thermometallurgical model for Al–Si coated 22MnB5, consisting of a coupled heat transfer and austenitization submodels. Two candidate austenitization submodels are considered: an empirical first-order model and a model based on the detailed austenitization kinetics. In the case of the first-order model, a detailed Monte Carlo procedure is used to construct 95% credibility intervals for the blank temperature and austenite phase fraction that accounts for uncertainties in the furnace temperature and model parameters. The models are first assessed using temperature and austenite phase fractions from Al–Si coated 22MnB5 coupons heated in a laboratory-scale muffle furnace, and then used to simulate austenitization of patched blanks within an industrial roller hearth furnace. The results show that the empirical first-order model provides a more robust estimate of austenite phase fraction compared to the detailed model.
