Abstract. Rocky granular flow usually forms after rocky bank slopes are failed and rushes into rivers at a high velocity, causing impulse wave disasters. Currently, the granular mass/water coupling study is an important trend in the field of landslide-induced impulse wave. In the paper, a full coupling numerical model for landslide-induced impulse wave is built based on non-coherent granular flow equation. In this model, Mih equation for continuous non-coherent granular flow controls the movement of sliding mass, two-phase flow equation regulates the interaction between sliding mass and water, Re-Normalisation Group (RNG) turbulence model governs the movement of water body. Taking Tangjiaxi landslide as an example, which is located at Zhexi Reservoir in Hunan Province, China, the motion characteristics of Tangjiaxi landslide and the following impulse wave process were analyzed by the coupling model, and the validity of this model was checked. On July 16, 2014, rocky blocks debris flow was formed after the failure of Tangjiaxi landslide, damming Tangjiaxi stream and thus causing an impulse wave disaster with which left three persons dead and nine persons missing. The full coupling numerical analysis showed that after the failure of Tangjiaxi rockslide, rocky granular flows impacted the water at the maximum velocity of about 22.5 m/s, with waves propagating at the maximum celerity of up to 12 m/s. The deposited topographic modeled is similar to that accumulated in the actual situation. The maximum run-up calculated is 21.8 m, close to the value of 22.7 m obtained in the field survey. A series of run-up values in the field survey matches well with the calculated values. Therefore, the full coupling numerical model built in this study can be used to simulate impulse waves generated by rocky granular flows.

Rias-type bays are one of the most common coasts in Japan where aquacultures have been active due to sheltered geological shape with a deep bottom. The huge tsunami hit Sanriku Coast consisting of open rias-type bays near the epicenter facing Pacific Ocean on 11 March 2011. For recovering Sanriku Coast, it is important to include sustainability in its program. Satoumi is defined as the human use and management of coastal seas for high productivity while maintaining high biodiversity. Therefore, we proposed Satoumi approach to an open rias-type bay, Shizugawa Bay, in southern Sanriku Coast. We conducted scientific researches on mapping of coastal habitats and aquaculture facilities, hydrography, and material flows of nutrients, a minor element (Fe) and organic matters in the bay including those from the rivers and from the offshore waters. At the same time, Committee for Shizugawa Bay Management of Fishermen’s Cooperative of Miyagi Prefecture decided to decrease in aquaculture facilities for sustainable development of aquaculture. Based on these data, a physical-biological coupling model was used for calculating the number of aquaculture facilities that are suitable not only for yields but also for environments. These researches were established on strong collaborations among a fishermen’s’ cooperative, local governments and scientists. Results of this practice may help to realize sustainable coastal use of a rias-type bay.

It is suggested that for some transition metal hexahalo complexes, the Eg-(a1g + eg) vibronic coupling model is better suited than the classical T2g-(a1g + eg) model. For the former, alternative model, the potential constants in the analytical formula are evaluated from the numerical map of the adiabatic potential surface by using the linear regression method. The numerical values for 29 hexahalo complexes of the 1st row transition metals are obtained by the CNDO/2 method. Some interesting trends of parameters of such Jahn-Teller-active systems are disclosed.

Aromatic chloroformates Ib-Ie were shown to exist in the ap conformation, in agreement with aliphatic chloroformates, i.e. the alkyl group is situated cis to the carbonyl oxygen atom as it is the case in all esters. While 4-nitrophenyl chloroformate (Ie) is in this conformation in crystal, in solution at most several tenths of percent of the sp conformation may be populated at room temperature and in nonpolar solvents only. A new analysis of dipole moments explained the previous puzzling results and demonstrated the impossibility to determine the conformation by this single method, in consequence of the strong interaction of adjoining bonds. If, however, the ap conformation is once proven, the dipole moments reveal some features of the electron distribution on the functional group, characterized by the enhanced polarity of the C-Cl bond and reduced polarity of the C=O bond. This is in agreement with the observed bond lengths and angles.
