Health Care Workers (HCWs) face a grave risk of acquiring infection including HumanImmunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Hepatitis B & C during the course of their work.A questionnaire based study was conducted amongst the 154 HCWs working in ateaching hospital to study Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) awareness,and to assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice in respect of application of universalprecautions. This study has shown that definite lacunae exist regarding awarenessand practice of universal precautions. Comprehensive in service educationalprogramme for HCWs regarding the implementation of universal precautions isrecommended.

BACKGROUND: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a serious global public health problem, with significant morbidity and mortality from acute and chronic complications. Increasing awareness and improving knowledge of HBV helps reduce the risk of the disease. Although many studies have been conducted on HBV in Ghana, few have focused on examining knowledge, attitude and preventive practices among adolescents towards the disease. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to assess HBV knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) among adolescents in high schools in the Asante Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted among 398 adolescents from six senior high schools within the Asante Mampong Municipality. Data was collected using a 30-item structured questionnaire. Each item had two response options: “Yes” and “No”. A scoring system was generated and respondents were given a score on each item answered. A positive response to an item was scored 1 point and a negative response was scored 0. Scores were then summed up and averaged to give the mean knowledge, attitude and practice scores. RESULTS: The majority of the respondents were male (60%), between 15 and 17 years (45%), Christian (93%) and in their first year of study. The adolescents had basic knowledge, positive attitude, and poor practices towards HBV. There was no significant relationship between the demographic variables of the respondents and KAP mean scores. CONCLUSION: There is the need to introduce health education and awareness programs in schools within the Asante Mampong Municipality to improve students’ level of knowledge of HBV. Countrywide studies examining KAP towards HBV infection among adolescents are also warranted.

Background: COVID-19 vaccine is the mighty weapon opted by all the countries across the globe in an attempt to eradicate the fatal COVID-19 pandemic. The myths on the COVID-19 vaccine are spreading widely, causing a hindrance to this noble preventive measure. The prevalence of such myths among the healthcare professionals may be toxic and deadly. Aim & Objectives: To assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice of the healthcare professionals regarding the myths on COVID-19 vaccination and to demystify them. Materials and Methods: An 18-item questionnaire evaluating knowledge, attitude, and practice based on the existing myths on COVID-19 vaccination was circulated through Google Forms among the 412 healthcare professionals of six disciplines belonging to a private University. The responses obtained were subjected to statistical analysis using SPSS 20 software package. Results: A total of 385 health professionals participated in this study. The majority of them had medium knowledge (165) and positive attitude (273) with the mean knowledge and attitude scores of 3.82 (SD-1.55) out of 6 and 4.3 (SD-1.58) out of 7 respectively. Even though 312 participants got vaccinated, 72 of them failed to receive it. The knowledge scores showed a high statistically significant difference among the participants of different designations (p=0.001), but not with gender, field, and staff with different years of experience (p>0.05). The attitude scores were statistically different among participants of fields and designation (p<0.05) but not among genders (p=0.31) and staff with different years of experience (p=0.87). Knowledge and attitude scores showed a positive linear correlation and a high statistically significant difference (p<0.001). Conclusion: This study recommends more enhanced education programs on COVID-19 vaccination for the health professionals and demands an improved knowledge, attitude, and practice among them to achieve the goal of 100% vaccination so as to completely eradicate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a huge public health problem. Among health professionals, medical and health sciences college students are risk groups. Objective: The objective of the study was to determine the knowledge, attitude, and practices towards Hepatitis B virus prevention and associated factors among private Medical, and Health Science’s College students in Bahir Dar city, North West Ethiopia. Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from May 1st – 30th /2017. All the available four private Medical and Health Sciences Colleges in Bahir Dar city were considered and included in the study to select 390 students using a systematic sampling technique. A pre-tested structured questionnaire, which has socio-demographic, knowledge, attitude and practice sections, was used to collect the data. Data were coded, entered and cleaned using Epi data version 3.1 and exported to SPSS version 21.0 software for analysis. Bivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify potential variable for multivariable logistic regression and those variables with 0.2 and less P-value entered in the next logistic regression model to identify the possible factors associated with knowledge, attitude, and practice towards Hepatitis B virus prevention. Significance level was set at P-value less than 0.05. Results: The age of the respondents ranged from 18-48 years with the mean (±SD) age of 23.74(3.48). About eighty-four, percent (83.8%) of respondents had good knowledge, whereas 44.6% had a favorable attitude and 32.6% had a good practice. Being unmarried (AOR=2.34, 95% CI: 1.32-4.15), age category 20-24 (AOR=11.5, 95% C.I: 2.60-51.5), and ≥ 25 (AOR=11.6, 95% CI: 2.47-54.4) was associated to knowledge, whereas study year (AOR=1.59, 95% CI: 1.01,2.51) and practice (AOR=2.95, 95% CI: 1.89, 4.58) were significantly associated to attitudes; and good knowledge (AOR=2.07, 95% C.I: 1.06, 4.04) and favorable attitude (AOR=2.79, 95% CI: 1.79,4.34) were significantly associated with practice, respectively. Conclusion: The overall knowledge status of the respondents about Hepatitis B virus prevention was good. But their attitudes and practices were unfavorable and not good respectively.

Background Hepatitis B imposes a major public health problem with an increased risk of occupational exposure among unvaccinated health care workers. This study was conducted to determine the Hepatitis B vaccination status, along with the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding Hepatitis B, among preclinical medical students of a medical college in Nepal. Materials and methods This descriptive study was conducted among preclinical students of a medical college in Kathmandu, Nepal from 6th July to 14th July 2020. The whole sampling technique was used. Data were collected using a pretested, self-administered questionnaire which was emailed to individuals and analyzed with the statistical package for social sciences version-22. Results A total of 181 students participated in the study out of 198, giving a response rate of 91.4%. Among the study participants, only 67 (37%) were fully vaccinated against Hepatitis B while 71 (39.2%) were never vaccinated. For the majority (74.6%) of the non-vaccinated participants, the main reason for not getting vaccination was a lack of vaccination programs. Half the study participants (n = 92, 50.8%) had good knowledge, attitude and practice regarding hepatitis B. The median knowledge, attitude and practice scores towards Hepatitis B were 61.00 (57.00–66.00), 20(18.00–21.00) and 21(19.00–23.00) respectively. Conclusions The majority of preclinical medical students were not fully vaccinated against Hepatitis B and only half of them had acceptable knowledge, attitude and practice towards Hepatitis B, which makes them vulnerable to the infection. This might represent the situation of not only Nepal, but also all South Asian countries, and creates concern about whether students take the vaccination programs seriously. Since unavailability of vaccination program is the main cause of non-vaccination, we strongly recommend the provision of the Hepatitis B vaccination program to the preclinical medical students.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of healthcare professionals regarding adverse drug reaction [ADR] monitoring and pharmacovigilance [PV] in India. Materials and Methods: It was a questionnaire based cross sectional observational study. Data was collected with the help of data collection Google form that included the demographics and twenty two survey based questions. Data were analysed by using Microsoft Excel sheet, further analysed for results, including frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. Result: The questionnaire was filled by two hundred ten healthcare professionals in which 52.9 % were male and 47.10% of female. Most of the respondents were pharm d students (50.47%). Out of the total 91.4% responded to the definition of pharmacovigilance correctly. 87.6% participants said all ADR should be reported. 86.20% participants think Pharmacovigilance should be taught in detail to healthcare professionals. Most of the respondents (43.8%) always informed the patients about ADR while prescribing the medicines. Conclusion: Study revealed most of the participants have good knowledge about ADR and pharmacovigilance. Difficult to decide whether ADR occur or not and extra work load being major factors responsible for under reporting.
