On the basis of experimental verification, the optimum processing conditions of CaO-B2O3-SiO2(CBS) system transparent glass-ceramics were obtained. Composition of main raw powders (wt%) was:CaO 38%,SiO240%,B2O312%.The precursor glass was prepared by melting method and annealed at 560°C for 2h and cooled to room temperature at a speed of 5°C/min.The best nucleating agent is P2O5. The appropriate heat treatment regime to precursor glass was determined to be 2h at 600°C for nucleation and 3h at 780°C for crystallizition.Under this condition, the transmittion of glass-ceramics at the range of visable light is 72% in average and Sm3+keep good luminescence property doped in this host material.

Transparent glass ceramics containing Na3.6Y1.8(PO4)3 crystals were successfully synthesized using high temperature melting quenching and subsequent heat treatment of the precursor glass with a composition 15Na2CO3-3Y2O3-45SiO2-31H3BO3- 5.4P2O5-0.6Sb2O3 (mol%). The impact of heat treatment is investigated in detail. The glass sample was tested by differential scanning calorimetry analysis to determine the heat treatment system. The ideal heat-treated condition is at 650°C for 2 h. The structure and morphology properties were systematically analyzed by recording X-ray diffraction patterns and scanning electron microscopy images, which indicate that Na3.6Y1.8(PO4)3 crystal were precipitated homogeneously among the glass matrix. The microstructural of precursor glass and glass ceramic were compared by analyzing FTIR spectra, indicating the formation of phosphate groups in glass ceramic. The refractive index of glass ceramics samples were measured. In the visible region, the transmittance of glass ceramics is up to 85%. Moreover, the relationship between the refractive index of the sample and the transmittance is discussed.

Selected oxyfluoroborate glasses have been investigated before and after heat treatment. Transparent glass-ceramics (TGC) were obtained during controlled crystallization (devitrification). X-ray diffraction studies confirmed that material was partially crystallized. Diffraction lines due to orthorhombic PbF2 phase were identified for heat-treated samples at various temperatures and times. Results were compared to that ones obtained for as-melted glass.

Transparent fresnoite(Ba2TiSi2O8) glass-ceramics considered as a new type of non-linear optical materials have been prepared by controlled heat treatment in the system xK2O-(33.3-x)BaO-16.7TiO2-50SiO2(0≤x≤20 mol%), and optical properties were investigated. The glassy nature was analyzed by differential thermal analyses. The transparency of glass-ceramics was variable and controllable by the processing parameters like time and temperature. The transparent glass-ceramics showed second harmonic generation (SHG) when irradiated by a 1064nm laser beam (Nd:YAG). The SHG intensity was compared with a Y-cut α-quartz plate.

Compositions and heat treatment conditions were determined at which absorption and luminescence properties of aluminosilicate transparent glass-ceramics are defined mainly by tetrahedrally coordinated Co2+ ions located in spinel nanocrystals. Optical properties of cobaltdoped aluminosilicate transparent glass-ceramics have been studied in visible – near infrared (IR) spectral range. It was demonstrated that the concentration of tetrahedrally coordinated Co2+ ions in the spinel nanocrystals is determined by the CoO content in the initial glass and is independent of the heat-treatment schedule. Absorption saturation and bleaching relaxation under excitation of the 4A2→4T1(4F) transition of tetrahedrally coordinated Co2+ ions were studied. The value of groundstate and excited state absorption cross-sections of tetrahedrally coordinated Co2+ ions was estimated. Comparative study of output pulse parameters of Q-switched Er:glass laser using cobaltdoped glass-ceramics and Co2+:MgAl2O4 single crystal is presented.
