This paper investigates the influence of mechanical activation of fly ash on the toxic metals immobilization by fly ash-based geopolymers. Fly ash was firstly mechanically and then alkali-activated. Mechanical activation of fly ash was conducted in a planetary ball mill. Alkali activation of fly ash was carried out at room temperature by use of sodium silicate solution as an activator. Toxic metals (Pb and Cr) were added in the form of water soluble salts during the synthesis of geopolymers. The immobilization process was assessed via investigation of the mechanical and leaching properties of geopolymers. Structural changes of geopolymers during the toxic metals immobilization were assessed by means of gas adsorption and SEM analyses. Mechanical activation of fly ash led to a significant increase in geopolymer strength and to a reduced leaching of toxic metals from geopolymers.

XRD investigation of Ti-2B system was carried out with the purpose of determining of structural changes in this system during mechanical activation. The size of coherentscattering region (CSR size) and kind II stresses (microstresses) were calculated by diffraction peaks profile analysis. It was determined that initiation of the synthesis reaction directly in mill is taking place at achievement the value of microstresses for titanium approximately equal to its yield point. Spontaneous reaction in a mill indicates that mechanical activation gives essential structural changes in Ti-2B system. So mechanical activation has essential influence on structural condition of Ti-2B system. Titanium diboride synthesized by high-temperature   combustion and by mechanosynthesis have approximately equal crystallites size. These results could clarify the processes of materials structural condition after mechanical activation and have a matter for materials science.

Mechanical activation as a means of accelerating the mineral dissolution may play an important role in chalcopyrite bioleaching. In the present work, the mechanical activation by ball-milling with 10 min, 30 min, 60 min, 90 min, 120 min and 180 min time periods of bioleaching of chalcopyrite was studied, and then evaluated by a Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculation. The results showed that the specific surface area increased sharply in the very beginning of mechanical activation and then increased slowly until the agglomeration of the particles occurred, while the chalcopyrite lattices increased with the mechanical activation. The reaction activity analyzed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) increased slowly in 30 min, increased quickly in the following 90 min, and then decreased, while the hydrophobicity analyzed by contact angles of the chalcopyrite after activation showed less of a change. The results showed that after 15 days of bioleaching, the Cu leaching by Sulfobacillus thermosulfidooxidans (S. thermosulfidooxidans) increased from 9.39% in the 0 min of mechanical activation to 87.41% in the 120 min of mechanical activation, and the copper leaching rate increased by about 78%. The DFT results provide solid proof that the activated chalcopyrite can be adsorbed more easily by cells with higher adsorption energies and stronger bonds.

The effects of structural changes on the rates of hydrolysis of a series of thiochloroformate esters in water have been investigated. The reactivity is enhanced by increased electron donation by the hydro carbon group. These results, the activation parameters for the hydrolysis of methyl thiochloroformate and the solvent deuterium isotope effect, are shown to be consistent with the operation of the SN1 mechanism.

Technological parameters of opening refractory ores by mechanical activation which determine remaining and the morphology of the samples after mechanical activation, SHS synthesis and the leaching process has been defined. Mechano-chemical activation of arsenopirita in different modes increases process have been defined. Optimal conditions for activation: time - 30 min at a ratio of grinding media and mineral 2:1. Leaching rate was higher for the activated samples the same amount of time than the original. Extraction of gold for the chosen optimum conditions is 93.2-95 %.
