ABSTRACT Objective: to understand how health service professionals involved in the care of users in psychic distress perceive the organization of the Psychosocial Care Network (RAPS - Rede de Atenção Psicossocial) in the western region of the city of São Paulo. Method: qualitative approach study conducted with 123 professionals with higher education who work in the care points of the network. A semi-structured interview was performed and data were submitted to the Alceste program for lexical analysis. Results: the network is in process of alignment with the mental health policy and the psychosocial rehabilitation strategy. However, the weaknesses in the work process of teams are related to deficits in human resources, structure, and communication, and to the limited appropriation of their guidelines. Final considerations: there are intense efforts of workers to weave the network, and barriers need to be overcome to support successful actions in mental health care in the territory.

The Brazilian psychiatric reform, through the consent of our country in the Caracas Declaration of 1990, has culminated with the advent of the Law No. 10,216 of April 2001, better known as Antimanicomial Law and, later, with the Resolution No. 3,088 of December 23, 2011, with the institution of the Psychosocial Care Network - RAPS. In this perspective of mental health, despite all the factors that surround contemporaneity, it presents a limit - either by death, or by suicide. This article aims to foster the reflection on the phenomenon of suicide, establishing a dialogue with the sickening of humanity. Through a bibliographic study, using the deductive hypothetical approach method, it’s been demonstrated that public policies for the prevention of this phenomenon should be proposed under the multifactorial and multicausal view, based on mental health meanings.

Although there are numerous quality of care frameworks, little attention has been given to the essential concepts that encompass quality mental healthcare. HealthCare CAN and the Mental Health Commission of Canada co-lead the Quality Mental Health Care Network (QMHCN), which has developed a quality mental healthcare framework, building on existing provincial, national, and international frameworks. HealthCare CAN conducted an environmental scan, key informant interviews, and focus groups with individuals with lived experiences to develop the framework. This article outlines the findings from this scan, interviews and focus groups.

Different types of violence have been present in Mexico but there have been few studies that have analyzed their relationship with mental health in adolescents, especially in cities with high rates of social violence. It is important to compare different violence types and their relationship with mental health since not all relationships are the same. It appears that social violence has a stronger relationship with mental health, and for this reason it receives more attention, but other types of violence have a stronger relationship and do not receive as much attention. Chihuahua has been one of the most violent states in Mexico, and Juarez has been the most violent city in the world in 2009 and 2010. The purpose of the study is to compare the relationship of different types of violence (social, cyberbullying, partner violence, and child abuse and neglect) with mental health indicators (depression, anxiety, stress, self-esteem, and paranoid thoughts). There were 526 high school students, from the cities of Juarez ( n = 282) and Chihuahua ( n = 244). The mean age was 16.5 ( SD = 1.4) years and 50.6% reported being males. The relationships among the variables were analyzed using Pearson’s correlations and multiple linear regressions. Both cities that have experienced social violence like carjacking, kidnapping, and sexual assault, but they have very small or no relationships with mental health indicators. Other types of violence have stronger correlations. Our findings suggest that interventions should not focus only in preventing and dealing with social violence, but that other types of violence must also be addressed in adolescents.

Abstract Background Health assessments are necessary for the (re) formulation of effective public policies and to guarantee the quality of care offered. This study aim to evaluate the perception of health professionals concerning the institutional capacity of the health system to care for Chronic Conditions (CC) after intervention in a medium-sized municipality in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Methods It is a panel study with evaluation before, during and after an intervention in the health system with a focus on three CC, i.e., i) diabetes; ii) hypertension; and iii) pregnant women. Health care professionals from primary and specialized care units were interviewed using the Assessment of Chronic Illness Care (ACIC) scale, which was applied in nine focal groups organized by health care unit. Results A total of 240 professionals participated of this evaluation, being 94, 63 and 82 participants in 2013, 2015 and 2018 respectively. The ACIC scores showed an positive evolution in the capacity of the health system to care for CC over the years. In the first wave the global score was 5.40 (basic capacity), while in the third wave the score was 9.38 (optimal capacity), with a significant increase in the scores (p < 0.01). Conclusions An important gain in the institutional capacity of the municipality was evidenced for the care of chronic conditions after intervention in the health system. Such an enhancement of the health system to operate in the CC might be sustainable over the time. Furthermore, its impact may directly reflect on the health indicators of the population. Key messages The results showed a strengthening of the local health system. These findings can subsidize other municipalities with a similar reality in the organization of the health care network and, consequently improve the care provided to chronic conditions.
