Since we have hardly any criteria for measuring good teaching, we have hardly any instructions on how to be a good teacher; so much so, that the issue itself is generally treated with some embarrassment in academic circles. Except as one is truly an extaordinary teacher, in which case we defer to his gift, sustained interest in teaching is viewed as something of a gaucherie. This shocks our friends and distresses our students, but it makes perfectly good sense, since we conventionally assume that good teachers are born, not made. (If they were made, then we should be able to make them; since we do not profess to know how to make them, yet they continue to turn up here and there, they must be born.)The logic is somewhat circular, and quite like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Having established that good teaching, when it happens, is essentially accidental, and hence not scientifically reproducible, we snicker at the “educationists” who profess to have identified “rules” for our work. There does exist, for example, a body of literature which employs scientific standards to identify the best methods for presenting various kinds of knowledge to students. Yet this is a literature which is almost totally unknown to anyone who is likely to make use of it. Thus its validity has not been tested, except experimentally.Although random efforts to improve the quality of teaching, and perhaps to apply the same standards in our analysis of teaching that we apply in our research, seem to be increasing, it is, on the whole, unlikely that they will grow substantially. For the most part, such efforts are directed at curricular revision, or at restructuring of course contents; they rarely deal with the nature of the relationship between the teacher and his students. And, even when they do, they must overcome an ethic of futility which is firmly established in our graduate schools.

Nowadays, globalization has given birth to various forms of non-traditional education. These forms of education are transcending borders and traversing boundaries of space and time. The evolution of information technology in the context of Industry 4.0 has transformed education rapidly and, at the same time, resulted in new problems. This paper discusses the role, the importance and the relationship between lecturers (in universities) and e-lecturers (in the virtual reality environment) when implementing cross-border education. In addition, the article also mentions the changes of universities, lecturers, curriculums and teaching methods when deploying distance e-learning programs in Industry 4.0. The article uses conceptual model, diagrams and interdisciplinary methods such as education, culture, science and technology to investigate e-lecturers’ concept and provide solutions for improving the capacity of lecturers and the quality of teaching cross-border training programs in universities.

Summary Among many different definitions of competitiveness it is difficult to pinpoint the most appropriate one. In the paper it was defined as the ability to be profitable by effective use of available resources. The profitability ratios (ROS, ROA, ROE and value index) were proposed as measures of competitiveness and resources were indicated as one of the group of factors that has an impact on it. Precisely, the purpose of the paper was to examine the relationship between selected resourced based factors and competitiveness of agricultural enterprises. The study was done with the use of correlation analysis on the basis of statistical data on selected Polish companies operating in agriculture. The main finding was that the analyzed resources (the level of labour, size and quality of agricultural land and size of assets) were weakly correlated with competitiveness. This observation means that other factors have stronger impact on agricultural company’s competitiveness. They can refer to intangible resources (such as relational capital, know-how, managerial competencies, technological resources etc.) and external conditions (such as climate, legal issues) of agricultural enterprises.

The respondents comprised of 144 teachers from three schools involved in TMUA program. The data obtained were processed and analysed through the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS 3.0 software. The results show that there is a significant relationship between teachers’ pedagogical knowledge, educational facilities and the quality of teaching. Data diperolehi menggunakan soal selidik Lecturer’s Conception of Teaching and Learning dan Perception of Teaching Environment. Kata kunci: Konsepsi pengajaran, persekitaran pengajaran The quality of teaching has become one of the important agenda for universities all over the world. Good and quality teaching are not only the responsibility of lecturers, but it is critical towards the quality of a university. One of the important concepts in the learning processes and activities is ‘teaching conceptions’. Teaching conceptions is considered a ‘model’ in lecturers’ mind regarding their practise, contexts and motives in teaching that influence their actions, planning and decision making. This article discussed lecturers’ teaching conceptions, their perceptions towards their teaching environment and, the relationship between lecturers’ teaching conceptions and their teaching environment. A total of 313 Universiti Teknologi Malaysia lecturers were involved in the study. Data were collected using Lecturer’s Conception of Teaching and Learning and, Perception of Teaching Environment questionnaires. Result showed that majority of the lecturers are inclined towards the learning facilitation orientation compared to the knowledge transmission orientation of teaching conceptions and, have positive perceptions towards their teaching environment. Key words: Teaching conceptions; teaching environment

This study was conducted with the following objectives: 1) to determine the performance ratings of the secondary school teachers as evaluated by their administrators; 2) to establish the relationship between the performance ratings of the secondary school teachers as evaluated by their superiors and their teaching effectiveness as evaluated by their students; and 3) to determine whether or not there is a significant difference in the quality of teaching among the secondary teachers in the different public schools serving as respondents of the study. Spearman Rho Correlation Coefficient was used to establish the relationship between the secondary teachers' ratings in the RPAST and their teaching effectiveness. The study revealed that 1) the average performance efficiency ratings were 87.61, 82.40, and 65.71 for INHS, KNHS and TNHS, respectively, with descriptive equivalents of very satisfactory for INHS and KNHS and satisfactory for TNHS, 2) there was no correlation between the performance ratings of the secondary teachers and their teaching effectiveness as perceived by students because of the lower ratings from the students compared to the higher ratings given by the administrators to their teachers; and 3) there was a significant difference in the quality of teaching among the secondary teachers in the three public schools service as respondents of the study.
