This chapter examines corporate law and governance from a behavioral perspective. It begins with an overview of the growing body of behavioral knowledge and its impact on the core assumptions of the agency theory. It then goes on to consider a number of specific areas of corporate law and governance where behavioral perspectives are particularly relevant, with particular emphasis on rule making. The chapter also explores how the board of directors performs, along with modern executive compensation systems, often in the form of performance-based pay. Finally, the chapter turns to the interaction between executives, non-executives, and (institutional) investors in corporate governance.

At the meeting of the National Council in Washington, February 20, 1932 the following motion was passed without dissenting vote: “The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics reaffirm their interest in the question of geometry as expressed at the annual meeting in Detroit, and hope that the Board of Directors will find it possible to initiate and carry forward a study of the whole question of geometry in our schools.” The directors forthwith empowered the new president, Mr. Betz, to appoint a Committee on Geometry; and he, anxious that some work should go forward during the long time necessary for the final organization of this and other committees, selected six members of the National Council for immediate service on the committee, intending to enlarge the membership as soon as possible in order that it might include an even wider range of interest and opinion.

This article is the third of a series transcribed from the discussion taped during the Core Facility Management session. Buileted paragraphs indicate comments by individuals attending the session.D. Sherman: The next topic we are going to deal with has to do with calibration of electron microscopes. This became very important in my situation because we started dealing with people with nanotubes and nanovesicles and with very small things where they needed to have accurate size both in the SEM and the TEM magnification range. My own frustrations dealing with calibration, especially in the in between magnification, spurred me on to ask a couple of experts to give us some insight on what we should be doing with calibration - the problems associated with this and some general information about how to go about doing this in our standard facilities where money is short.
