Nephroselmis pyriformis(N. Carter) Ettl is reported for the first time from the north-eastern Mediterranean Sea coast. The species was isolated from the samples collected on 21 September 2013. The morphology of live cells is described based on light microscopy. Photographic and video images of the species are also presented.

Age and growth of the common guitarfish (Rhinobatos rhinobatos) were estimated from the north-eastern Mediterranean coast of Turkey. A total of 115 common guitarfish (66 females and 49 males) were sampled. Age determinations were carried out using vertebral sections. Alcian blue dying techniques were used to enhance the visibility of the band on vertebrae. The techniques have been used for the first time on elasmobranchs vertebrae successfully in this study. A total of 97 vertebrae of 115 were visible on the vertebral band in this study. Male and female common guitarfish ranged in age from 1 to 15 and 1 to 24 y respectively. Total length ranged from 42 to 147 cm for females and 39 to 124 cm for males.The relationships between total length (TL) and total weight (TW) were presented as TW = 0.0014*TL3.1672 (R2 = 0.98) for females, TW = 0.0012*TL3.1947 (R2 = 0.98) for males and TW = 0.0012*TL3.1915 (R2 = 0.98) for both sexes. The parameters for von Bertalanffy growth curves were estimated as Linf  = 137.70±9.38 cm, K = 0.159±0.047, to = −2.180 ± 0.90 for pooled data.

The parasitic fauna of the small-spotted catshark, Scyliorhinus canicula in the north-eastern Aegean Sea was investigated. Twenty-one out of the 52 (prevalence 40.4%) specimens collected were found infected with parasites; an arthropod and two nematode genera. Seven specimens (prevalence 13.5%) were infected by a Neoalbionella sp. copepod. Ten and 14 specimens were infected by the nematodes Proleptus obtusus (prevalence 19.2%) and Anisakis sp. (prevalence 26.9%), respectively. Female S. canicula specimens were significantly more heavily infected during autumn and when the whole sampling period is considered. Nematode infection was significantly related to season, becoming progressively heavier from spring to autumn. No correlation was found between TL of specimens and number of parasites for males or females, irrespective of gender. The present study provided a first record of Neoalbionella sp., P. obtusus and Anisakis sp. infections of S. canicula in the north-eastern Mediterranean. The lower prevalence of Proleptus obtusus and the higher prevalence of Anisakis sp. infection recorded in this study may be due to prey availability and parasite populations in this locality.

We review the continuing and extensive spread of Papilio demoleus in south-eastern Turkey and in regions of Turkey and Syria adjacent to the north-eastern Mediterranean. Since the authors documented the arrival of this attractive but potentially destructive papilionid species at coastal areas of Syria in 2019, regular monitoring has confirmed successful overwintering there, as well as in Turkey. As previously indicated, P. demoleus is widely recognized as an invasive pest species in Citrus-growing areas of the world and hence its arrival is of potential economic importance to a region in which citrus is widely grown.

Moulvibazar district has been recognized as one of the biodiversity rich pockets close to the boundary side of Assam of India and situated in the North-eastern part of Bangladesh. Adompur reserve forest is one of the biodiversity hotspot  in the North-eastern. The current article confirm, the presence of  Kaniska canace Linnaeus, 1763, (Nymphalidae: Lepidoptera) which was not previously recorded in Bangladesh. This species was first recorded on 17 March 2017 at 15.30 (GMT+6) local time in the coordination of  N 24°18'9.46"; E 91°55'4.23" at Kauyargola   forest   beat, Adampur reserve forest in Moulvibazar District.

The results of a phytosociological investigation regarding the orophilous cushion-like vegetation occurring in the top of the high mountains of central-southern Greece and in some Ionian (Lefkas, Cephalonia) and Aegean Islands (Euboea, Samos, Lesvos, Chios and Thassos) are provided. Based on 680 phytosociological relevès (460 unpublished and 220 from literature), a new syntaxonomical arrangement is proposed with the description of a new class, including two new orders, eight new alliances, and several associations (many of them new). Compared to the previous hierarchical framework usually followed in the literature, this study provides a more realistic and clear phytosociological characterization of this peculiar and archaic vegetation type, which is exclusive to the high mountains of the north-eastern Mediterranean. The new arrangement is mainly based on the phytogeographical role of the orophytes featuring this very specialized vegetation, which is essentially represented by endemics or rare species belonging to the ancient Mediterranean Tertiary flora. In addition, taxonomic research on the orophilous flora occurring in these plant communities allowed to identify six species new to science (i.e., Astragalus corinthiacus, Allium cremnophilum, A. cylleneum, A. orosamium, A. karvounis, and A. lefkadensis) and a new subspecies (i.e., Allium hirtovaginatum subsp. samium), and two new combinations (i.e., Astragalus rumelicus subsp. euboicus and subsp. taygeticus) are proposed.
