Changes in forest ecosystems of brackish water in Indonesia has reached the alarming level. Center for the Study of Marine Fisheries and Bung Hatta University in 2005 mentioned, brackish water forest area in West Sumatra reached 39 832 hectares. Mentawai district has an area of 32,600 hectares of mangrove forests, West Pasaman area of 6273.5 hectares. Results showed that the level of damage is highest in the district of Padang Pariaman, 80 percent or comparable 160 hectares. As in West Pasaman reached 30% and the Mentawai Islands as much as 20%. For the city of Padang, the forest area of brackish water no more than 10 hectares. The forest is only found in the Banana River. Others mostly already built housing or for tourism.

This study explain how the dynamics of resistance actors from the resistance movement over the control of forest resources of the Mentawai indigenous people on the island of Siberut, Mentawai islands, West Sumatra. The primary data in this study are the results of interviews with the authors in the field, as well as secondary data from books, international and national journals, as well as related official documents. The author concludes that there is no significant resistance due to the lack of solidarity and sense of belonging to the customary forest due to the heterogeneity that exists in Siberut. The conflict that took place was actually not just the interests of the economic base, but the existence of a cultural base that also played an important role.

AbstractIn 2011 we carried out the first systematic survey to determine the density and abundance of endemic forest primates in Siberut National Park, in the Mentawai Islands of West Sumatra, Indonesia. Distance sampling was employed to survey 18 transects located systematically throughout the Park, yielding a total survey effort of 192 km and 285 observations of primates for data analysis. From density estimates for the four resident primate species, the Siberut langur Presbytis siberu, the pig-tailed snub-nosed langur Simias concolor, Kloss's gibbon Hylobates klossii and the Siberut macaque Macaca siberu, we extrapolated a total population of c. 51,000 primates within the Park. We conclude that Siberut National Park is of major significance for the continued survival of Siberut's endemic primates, and provide recommendations to help ensure that it will continue to function as a refuge for primates.

Abstract. Mildawati, Sobir, Sulistijorini, Chikmawati T. 2020. The diversity of pteridophytes in Siberut National Park, Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 21: 3200-3208. The diversity of Pteridophytes in the Siberut National Park (Siberut NP) Mentawai Islands, West Sumatra, is still very well preserved, but the information is limited. This research aimed to study the divesrity of Pteridophyte species in the Siberut NP in order to provide its taxonomic information using morphological data. The study consisted of exploration to collect plant specimens directly in the field, observation and identification of herbarium specimens in Herbarium Bogoriense and verification using online websites from various sources. A total of 69 species of Pteridophytes classified into 36 genera, and 20 families were recorded in the Siberut NP with Polypodiaceae has the most species diversity with 12 species of 6 genera. As many as 14 species are new records for Siberut Island, i.e. Selaginella involvens (Sw.) Spring (Selaginellaceae), Asplenium simile Blume (Aspleniaceae), Diplazium montanum V.A.V.R (Athyriaceae), Stenochlaena palustris (Burm) Bedd. (Gleichnaceae), Davallia solida (Forst.) Sw. (Davalliaceae), Callistopteris apiifolia (C.Presl) Copel., Crepidomanes humile Bosch (Hymenophyllaceae), Lindsaea carvifolia Kramer, Lindsaea doryphora Kramer, Lindsaea napaea Aldrew. (Lindsaeaceae), Nephrolepis biserrata (Sw.) Schott (Nephrolepidaceae), Ceratopteris thalictroides (L.) Brongn., Haplopteris ensiformis (Sw.) E.H.Crane and Syngramma alismifolia (Pr.) J.Sm. (Pteridaceae). The habitats of Pteridophytes found were mostly terrestrial and epiphytic (34 species each), while aquatic habitat was only found to one species. The results of this study will serve as baseline information of the plant diversity in the Siberut NP that can be used as the reference for future studies on Pteridophytes and to develop their conservation strategy in the region.

The purpose of this research was to calculate the level of public access to electricity, the number of districts that have not been electrified, searching for the cause of the electrical limitations, analyze the potential development of biomass-based electricity bamboo. This research was conducted by collecting and analyzing secondary data (exploratory). The results showed that an area where the level of public access in the Mentawai Islands to electricity is still low at 21.7%, while the average of West Sumatra has reached 73.5%. There are three districts that have not been electrified the District Siberut Southwestern, Central and Siberut Siberut West. Cause limitation is the limited electrical power supplied by PLN because they rely on diesel power and the difficulty of distributing electricity for people living in remote locations and lack of infrastructure. The development of biomass-based power relative bamboo suitable to be developed in this area, because of the development of the bamboo plant is feasible, and supported by land suitability and size of the area that can be planted. Electrification technology-based biomass (bamboo) can be applied to spots or per region around the bamboo plants are developed.

Jawa, Anamba, and Leopoldamys siporanus from Siberut and Pagai-Mentawai Islands was analyzed using discriminant analysis. The analysis showed that the morphological shape of Sumatran L. sabanus was an intermediate between Jawa and Kalimantan populations. The population of L. sabanus from Anamba Island was predicted to be closed to the intermediate from between Kalimantan and Sumatra. Specimens of L. siporanus from Siberut and Pagai indicated that their morphology was closer to that of L. sabarus from Kalimantan than it was from Sumatra or Jawa. In Sumatra L. sabarus has three subspecies which are distributed in northern side of West Sumatra (L.s. tapanulius), southern side of West Sumatra (L.s. ululans) and Mount Kerinci at Sumatra (L.s. vociferans). Furthermore, specimens examined in this study were collected from Leuser and Bengkulu where they are located at the corner of tapanulius and ululans type locality, and they were predicted as one population. This finding raises the possibility that the Sumatrans has one shape of L. sabanus, but this argument should be confirmed from prototype specimens of ululans, vociferans, and tapanulius.

Investigators have an important role to the settlement of cases of narcotics abuse for themselves. In dealing with narcotics abusers for themselves, investigators should be oriented to action sanctions in the form of rehabilitation. This is very necessary in order to operationalize Article 54 of Law Number 35 Year 2009 on Narcotics, where the narcotics abusers for themselves are obliged to undergo medical rehabilitation and social rehabilitation. Based on the results of the study, as well as the discussion and analysis, obtained the conclusion as an answer to the formulation of the problem, as follows: first, the investigator's efforts to the rehabilitation of narcotics narcotics for themselves according to the Narcotics law on Satres Drugs Mentawai Islands Police done by sending a request for an assessment to BNN West Sumatra Province. The request to conduct an assessment to West Sumatra Provincial BNN for suspected Narcotics abusers for themselves is conducted against the suspect with evidence and limit of usage of at most 5 grams. If the evidence brought by the suspect is more than 1 grams, the Satres Drug Investigator of Mentawai Islands Resort does not send a request for an assessment to BNN West Sumatera Province. Second, obstacles encountered by the investigator against the efforts of the rehabilitation of narcotics narcotics for themselves according to the Narcotics law in the Drug Satres Mentawai Islands Police, in the first instance, has not been formed Integrated Assesmen Tim in Mentawai Islands District. Secondly, the lack of community response in the rehabilitation of narcotics narcotics for themselves, where narcotics abusers for themselves and families of narcotics abusers for themselves, no one reports to Satres Drug investigators Mentawai Islands police.
