AbstractMultiplex assays for malaria antigen detection can gather data from large sample sets, but considerations for the consistency and quality assurance (QA) of mass testing lack evaluation. We present a QA framework for a study occurring November 2019 to March 2020 involving 504 assay plates detecting four Plasmodium antigens: pan-Plasmodium aldolase and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), histidine-rich protein 2 (HRP2), P. vivax LDH (PvLDH). Controls on each plate included buffer blank, antigen negative blood, and 4-point positive dilution curve. The blank and negative blood provided consistently low signal for all targets except for pAldolase, which showed variability. Positive curve signals decreased throughout the 5-month study duration but retained a coefficient of variation (CV) of < 5%, with the exception of HRP2 in month 5 (CV of 11%). Regression fittings for inter-plate control signals provided mean and standard deviations (SDs), and of 504 assay plates, 6 (1.2%) violated the acceptable deviation limits and were repeated. For the 40,272 human blood samples assayed in this study, of 161,088 potential data points (each sample × 4 antigens), 160,641 (99.7%) successfully passed quality checks. The QA framework presented here can be utilized to ensure quality of laboratory antigen detection for large sample sets.

The article outlines the conceptual framework for adapting Ukrainian higher education to the Standards and Recommendations for Quality Assurance in the European higher education area. The role of the Bologna Declaration in ensuring the quality of higher education in Europe has been explained. The conceptual foundations and the essence of standards and recommendations on quality assurance in the European higher education area have been defined. The Ukrainian realities of the adaptation of higher education of Ukraine to the educational European standards of quality have been characterized.

The Community Partnership Program in partnership with the Tani Rahayu Women's Group and the Bakpia Jurug Industry Association have succeeded in helping create economic independence. The results of this program are increased capacity and quality of production of bakpia and tempeh nuggets in the partner group. The implementation of mechanical and automation technology-based tools is able to increase the production capacity of tempe nuggets from 2 kg to 24 kg in a production time of 8 hours. While the implementation of the use of bakpia kumbu processing equipment was able to increase the production of 3 kg to 24 kg in a production time of 8 hours. The utilization of these tools has also been followed by quality assurance training and assistance, so that the quality of the products produced is uniform.

The study attempted to find out the quality of the evaluation procedure of B.Ed. programme of Garhwal University, the Central University in view of NCTE Norms. The study also reveals the method and procedure of evaluation according to the latest 2 years B.Ed. programme. For the study, purposive sampling method was used. The tools – questionnaire and interview schedule was developed. On the basis of findings, it concluded that the evaluation procedure was in accordance with the NCTE Norms. With the implementation of two years B.Ed. course, the method of evaluation has also become more practical oriented, which has become a remarkable achievement and surely enhance the quality of prospective teachers

Quality, as we know so far, was originally developed in the manufacturing industry. In the area of higher education, the adoption of quality control has been superficial and diluted by the exercise of academic . Further, the prevailing culture of universities is often based on individual autonomy, which is zealously guarded. Thus, it is usually difficult to apply the features of quality to higher education considering the fact that quality requires. However, the quality of higher education is very important for its stakeholders. Notably, providers (funding bodies and the community at large), students, staff and employers of graduates are. The most commonly grouped dimensions of quality are product, software and service. In the changing context marked by expansion of higher education and globalization of economic activities, education has become a national concern with an international dimension. To cope with this changing context, countries have been pressurized to ensure and assure quality of higher education at a nationally comparable and internationally acceptable standard. Consequently, many countries initiated “national quality assurance mechanisms” and many more are in the process of evolving a suitable strategy. Most of the quality assurance bodies were established in the nineties and after a few years of practical experience, they are rethinking many issues of quality assurance. At this juncture where countries look for experiences and practices elsewhere, the experience of India has many valuable lessons and this report is an attempt to share those developments..

AbstractThis article examines the international determinants of capital structure using a large sample of firms from 37 countries. The reliable determinants for leverage are firm size, tangibility, industry leverage, profits, and inflation. The quality of the countries’ institutions affects leverage and the adjustment speed toward target leverage in significant ways. High-quality institutions lead to faster leverage adjustments, whereas laws and traditions that safeguard debt holders relative to stockholders (e.g., more effective bankruptcy procedures and stronger creditor protection) lead to higher leverage.

Purpose After the “quantity era,” today higher education has entered into the “quality era” and as “the gate keepers of quality,” quality assurance agencies (QAAs) are playing more and more irreplaceable important roles and their social status are becoming more and more prominent. However, how to guarantee the quality of the QAAs? Who can review the QAAs? The purpose of this paper is based exploration of these questions. Design/methodology/approach Following the founding of the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR) for Higher Education, the Asia Pacific Quality Register (APQR) became the second in the international quality assurance (QA) networks to implement QA register, in 2015 with initiative of Asia-Pacific Quality Network. Findings This paper first retrospects the history and process of APQR, and subsequently the implementation of APQR is described in detail from the two aspects of the criteria and the procedure, and at the end, the paper concludes with a summary of the three characteristics of this first formal implement of APQR: APQR is an international register open to all the QAAs; APQR emphasizes characteristics evaluation of diversity; and APQR highlights the combination of quantitative assessment and qualitative assessment. Originality/value Today on the international stage of QA, APQR has emerged as “the watchman of quality” in the Asia-Pacific region as counterpart of EQAR in Europe. How far away does such newly emerging form of guaranteeing the QAAs’ quality go forward, what is its future prospects and other concerning issues, are some of the question that need enthusiastic attention and contribution.

Quality of Life (QoL) is a multidimensional estimate of biopsychosocial health and wellbeing.1 The COVID-19 pandemic led to an abrupt change in our lifestyle, demanding resilience and coping mechanisms2. Health care providers are in the frontline of COVID-19 patients’ diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, and there is a well-documented impact of this context on their physical and mental health2. This might impact their wellbeing and reduce their quality of life. In this research letter, we investigated which factors are associated with QoL in Brazilian healthcare professionals. We aim to investigate both protective and risk factors for the four main aspects of QoL: physical, psychological, social relations, and environment. We assessed 97.771 Brazilian adults, most (92.3%) health professionals of different professions from all the five-country regions. All included individuals agreed in a written consent to participate. Participants showed an average of 35.45 years old (±9.49) and were predominantly female (80%). They answered an online questionnaire about sociodemographic aspects, measures of mental health, and quality of life in the first semester of 2020. A detailed description of the sample and procedures can be found elsewhere3. All participants answered the WHOQoL-BREF, a standardized tool for QoL assessment developed by the World Health Organization. Stepwise linear regression analysis was used to assess the role of sociodemographic factors, previously diagnosed mental disorders, COVID-19 related symptoms as well a series of specific questions regarding participants worries and perceptions about the pandemic, including the protective behaviors' adoption (social distancing, usage of masks and sanitizer, among others). Since we have a large sample size our statistical power is about 99% (alpha=0.01) to detect small effect sizes. To simplify our results and allow a more direct application to real-life settings we only included significant predictors which showed at least 1% of adjusted explained variance in the stepwise models. The stepwise regression model was summarized in the figure below. All regression models were significant (p&lt;0.001) as well all the predictors reported in the Figure. Total explained variance was 26% for Physical QoL, 27% for Psychological, 13% for Social Relations, and 19% for Environmental. A history of previous depression, presence of Headache, and the perception of worsening in home relationships were risk factors for lower QoL in all four domains. Our results suggest a multidimensional pattern of determinants of QoL in health care professionals in the early days of the pandemic. Interesting features emerged as predictors of QoL such as changes in home relationships, worsening in work productivity, and mental health. Expected and new predictors may shed light on which factors should be considered in interventions aiming at the development of mitigation of impact QoL in these populations.

P. oleracea and P. quadrifida are closely related species belonging to family Portulaceae. They are found in almost parts of the globe growing as neglected weed. However, recent interest in these plants owing to their palatable sour taste and health benefits have made them acceptable as cultivable plants and potted herbs. Even though numerous studies indicate the presence of pharmacological compounds in these plants, reports on quality assurance practices followed for evaluating these plants as crude drugs have not been detailed. In this study, the plant species were harvested as weed, authenticated, extracted using different solvents and extraction techniques. The extracts were then evaluated and studied for their primary phytochemical composition. This was followed by isolation of beta sitosterol using thin layer chromatography and column chromatography. The results indicate the presence all major classes of phytochemicals such as steroids, flavanoids, alkaloids, saponins, polysaccharides, and tannins. The percentage yield, extractive values, ash values, moisture content were calculated for both the species. The isolation of beta-sitosterol may be used as a quality assurance procedure. The data presented in this study may be further used by researchers for primary evaluation of quality of crude drugs in the form of P. oleracea and P. quadrifida plants.
