Poly(phenylquinoxaline–imide–amide)s have been synthesized by solution polycondensation of aromatic diamines containing preformed phenylquinoxaline rings with a diacid chloride incorporating preformed imide rings and hexafluoroisopropylidene (6F) groups. These polymers do not decompose up to 400 °C and have glass transition temperatures in the range of 284–308 °C. They are soluble in polar amidic solvents, such as N-methyl-pyrrolidone, and in less polar solvents such as pyridine and tetrahydrofuran, and give flexible films by casting from solutions.

A series of new poly(1, 3, 4-oxadiazole-amide)s have been synthesized by solution polycondensation of aromatic diamines containing preformed 1, 3, 4-oxadiazole rings with phenoxyterephthalic diacid chloride or by the reaction of the same diacid chloride with p-aminobenzhydrazide resulting in a polyhydrazide-amide which was cyclodehydrated to the corresponding oxadiazolic structure. The new polymers were soluble or partially soluble in polar amidic solvents, were stable up to 375–400 °C in air and had a glass transition temperature in the range of 225–272 °C.

Amphiphilic diblock copolymer was synthesized in one-step or two-step process by using of methoxy polyethylene glycol (MePEG), 1,6-hexanediol and maleic anhydride and characterized by FTIR and GPC. IR spectrum of amphiphilic diblock copolymer confirmed that MePEG had grafted on polyester. Solution polycondensation, melt polycondensation, mode of adding monomers and reaction time were studied on effect of molecular weight and its distribution. The GPC results showed that fairly narrow molecular weight distribution was obtained in solution polycondensation by one-step process. In addition, self-assemble behavior of amphiphilic diblock copolymer was discussed in different solvents by nanoprecipitation technique. The micelle size and aggregation was measured by TEM. It was found that MePEG1900-b-Polyester2162 copolymer self-assembled in acetone solution against water into well core-shell nanoparticles.

A new interesting category of higher thermally stable polyazomethines containing ferrocene in the polymers main chain6a–e  was synthesized by solution-polycondensation reaction of 1-(m-formylphenyl)-1′-(5-formyl-2-methoxyphenyl)-ferrocene monomer4with different aliphatic and aromatic diamines. A model compound5was synthesized from dialdehyde monomer4with aniline and was characterized by elemental and spectral analyses. The desirable resulting polymers were characterized by elemental and spectral analyses, in addition to solubility measurement using different solvents. The thermal properties of these polymers were evaluated by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements. The redox behaviours were studied for the ferrocene polymers in comparison with both the parent ferrocene monomer and the model compound by using cyclic voltammetry (CV).

The formulation of macromolecular blends on the basis of polyimides using one step catalytic polycyclocondensation is reported. Polymers with active functional groups (polyacrylamide, polycaproamide) have been suggested as catalysts for the reaction of alicyclic dianhydrides with aromatic diamines in protolytic medium. Films made from macromolecular blends of synthesized polymers have been investigated by X-ray diffractometry and scanning electron microscopy. It has been shown that single step formation of polyimide on the polymer matrix presents the possibility to prepare thin structured disperse blends in comparison with simple mixing of homopolymers.

Four wholly aromatic Poly (amide-sulfonamide) s (PASAs) were synthesized by the solution polycondensation from m-chlorosulfonyl benzoyl chloride and aromatic diamines in tetramethylene sulfone and substituted 2-Piucoline as the acid acceptor. The chemical structures of PASAs were characterized by FTIR,1HNMR. Thermal properties of PASAs were investigated by TGA.

Two series of polyimides (PIs) derived from bis(ether anhydride)s and bis(ester anhydride)s using 2,2′-bis(trifluoromethyl)biphenyl-4,4′-diamine were synthesized via solution polycondensation. The poly(ether imide)s could be formed by the conventional one-step method, while the poly(ester imide)s were only afforded by the two-step procedure. The resulting PIs had glass transition temperatures ( Tgs) in the range of 224–320°C and exhibited good mechanical properties with tensile strength in the range of 80.5–96.5 MPa, tensile moduli 2.7–6.9 GPa, and elongations at break 1.5–17.3%. It was found that the PIs derived from bis(ether anhydride)s showed higher thermal stability, better solubility, and transparency but lower Tg and higher water absorption compared with bis(ester anhydride)-based PIs due to the different ether and ester linkages.

Fluorinated poly(imide-amide)s containing pendant cyano groups have been synthesized by solution polycondensation of aromatic diamines which contain cyano groups with diacid chlorides which have both hexafluoroisopropylidene and imnide groups. Thermal crosslinking of these polymers has been attempted in NMP, or by heating the polymer films up to 370-400 'C. The solubility, thermal stability, glass transition temperature and dielectric constant of both linear and crosslinked polymers have been studied.
