Two microporous CTFs with triptycene (TPC) and fluorene (FL) have been synthesized through a mild AlCl3-catalyzed Friedel–Crafts reaction, with the highest surface area of up to 1668 m2 g−1 for non-ionothermal CTFs. CTF-TPC and CTF-FL show an excellent carbon dioxide uptake capacity of up to 4.24 mmol g−1 at 273 K and 1 bar.

Polyacrylonitrile-based activated carbon fibers (ACFs), modified using potassium hydroxide (KOH) or tetraethylenepentamine (TEPA), were investigated for carbon dioxide (CO2) adsorption, which is one of the promising alleviation approaches for global warming. The CO2 adsorption isotherms were measured, and the values of isosteric heat of adsorption were calculated. The results showed that the KOH-modified ACFs exhibited a great deal of pore volume, and a specific surface area of 1565 m2/g was obtained. KOH activation made nitrogen atoms easily able to escape from the surface of ACFs. On the other hand, the surface area and pore volume of ACFs modified with TEPA were significantly reduced, which can be attributed to the closing or blocking of micropores by the N-groups. The CO2 adsorption on the ACF samples was via exothermic reactions and was a type of physical adsorption, where the CO2 adsorption occurred on heterogeneous surfaces. The CO2 uptakes at 1 atm and 25 °C on KOH-activated ACFs reached 2.74 mmole/g. This study observed that microporosity and surface oxygen functionalities were highly associated with the CO2 uptake, implying the existence of O-C coordination, accompanied with physical adsorption. Well cyclability of the adsorbents for CO2 adsorption was observed, with a performance decay of less than 5% over up to ten adsorption-desorption cycles.

Cobalt dopping Fe-MIL-88B were successfully synthesized -in solvothermal procedure using DMF as solvent and with/without NaOH. The samples were characterized using SEM, BET and TGA techniques. The partly substitution of Fe by Co does not change the octahedral shape of their parent Fe-MIL-88B. Crystallizations conducted in NaOH medium, however, results in rod like with 2-end octahedral shape crystals. The BET specific surface area is 139cm2/g. The TGA data indicated that the presence of Co resulted in an increase in thermal stability of synthesized samples compared to parent Fe-MIL-88B. The CO2 adsorption isotherms in Fe-MIL-88B-Co samples were measured volumetrically at five temperatures:278K, 288K, 298K, 308K, 318K. The obtained results showed that Fe-MIL-88B-Co is a potential adsorbent with a maximum adsortption capacity of 1.2312 mmol/g (at T= 278K). The sample synthesized in alkali medium exhibited a better adsorbent for CO2 storage. Keywords MIL, adsorption, CO2 References [1] S. CO2 adsorption on K exchanged NaX zeolites, and metal organic frameworks (MOFs), namely Cu-BTC and MIL53 (Al) was studied at 5 °C and 25 °C.  Exchange via ultrasonic and traditional methods, was conducted at 50 °C and 70 °C. The maximum replacement of Na+ ion with K+ ion in the extra framework of zeolite was increased from 76% to 83% with increasing temperature from 50 °C to 70 °C in the ultrasonic method which is more effective than traditional one. Compared with the zeolites, the MOF adsorbents used in this work have higher Langmuir specific surface area values namely 1278, 1473 and about 1000 m2/g for MIL 53, Cu-BTC and zeolite adsorbents respectively. The resulting CO2 isotherms can be well represented by the Toth equation. Comparison of the isosteric heat of adsorption at zero loading shows that CO2 was adsorbed more weakly on MOFs than zeolites.

The design and synthesis of new multifunctional organic porous polymers has attracted significant attention over the years due to their favorable properties, which make them suitable for carbon dioxide storage. In this study, 2-, 3-, and 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde reacted with phenyltrichlorosilane in the presence of a base, affording the corresponding organosilicons 1–3, which further reacted with benzidine in the presence of glacial acetic acid, yielding the organic polymers 4–6. The synthesized polymers exhibited microporous structures with a surface area of 8.174–18.012 m2 g−1, while their pore volume and total average pore diameter ranged from 0.015–0.035 cm3 g−1 and 1.947–1.952 nm, respectively. In addition, among the synthesized organic polymers, the one with the meta-arrangement structure 5 showed the highest carbon dioxide adsorption capacity at 323 K and 40 bar due to its relatively high surface area and pore volume.
