AbstractThe silicate-type and Eu3+-activated Sr3SiO5 and Mg3SiO5 were prepared through the high temperature solid state reaction method under an open atmosphere. DTA/TG analysis was conducted to obtain information about the thermal behaviors of the mixed reactants. Using the DTA/TG results, the sintering process was achieved and the phase properties were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The effects of the same activator (Eu3+) and co-dopant (Dy3+) on the photoluminescence (PL) properties of the host lattices were investigated by using a photoluminescence spectrometer.

Zinc silicate-based (Zn2SiO4:Eu3+) long afterglow phosphors were produced by solid state reaction method. The effects of borax and Eu2O3 additive on the properties of fabricated products have been studied. The results show that, there is not much difference in phase compositions within the borax additive amount; however, their SEM morphologies are different. Borax additive can increase the grain size of the product. Some sintering phenomena could be observed in the sample with Eu2O3 addition. The fluorescence spectroscopy results indicate that, the emission peak of the sample with Eu3+ additive located at 612nm, which may be a good candidate for red phosphor applications. The luminescent mechanism of Zn2SiO4:Eu3+ is also discussed.

The high temperature superconductor’s compounds are one of the hot spot field of science, due to their applications in industries. Hg0.8Sb0.2Ba2Ca2Cu3O8+δ and Hg0.8Sb0.2Ba2Ca1Cu2O6+δ, were manufactured using a doable-step of solid state reaction method. The samples were sintered at 800 ° C. The transition temperatures Tc are found from electrically resistively by using four probe techniques. The resistivity become zero when the transition temperature Tc(offset) have 131 and 119 K, and the onset temperature Tc(onset) have 139 K for Hg0.8Sb0.2Ba2Ca2Cu3O8+δ and 132 K for Hg0.8Sb0.2Ba2Ca1Cu2O6+δ. Analysis of X-ray diffraction showed a tetragonal structure with lattice parameters changes for all samples.

This paper reports the photoluminescence properties of Ca9Eu1-xSmx(VO4)7 (x=0.2-0.4) synthesized at 1250 oC in air for 12 h using traditional solid-state reaction method. With the increase of Sm3+ substitution amount, purity Ca9Eu1-xSmx(VO4)7 phase was obtained even when the Eu3+ ions were totally substituted by Sm3+. The experimental results showed that when Sm3+ was codoped with Eu3+ into Ca9Eu1-xSmx(VO4)7 crystal structure, Sm3+ would act as a sensitizer and transfer the excitation energy to Eu3+ ions and finally enhance the emission intensity of Ca9Eu1-xSmx(VO4)7 under 405 nm excitation, which leads to more favorite of this kind of phosphor used in UV LED based white LEDs.

Powder of Pr-doped CaTiO3 red phosphor was prepared at 1473 K by a conventional solid-state reaction method with addition of B2O3 or SiO2 as a flux. Primary particle sizes of the prepared samples were increased by using B2O3 flux but decreased by using SiO2 flux. Clear planes, edges, or steps were observed on surfaces of the primary particles. The intensity of photoluminescence induced by irradiation of light with a wavelength longer than ∼350 nm was enhanced about three times by using B2O3 flux. The intensity of photoluminescence induced by irradiation of light with a wavelength shorter than ∼350 nm was enhanced about twice by using either B2O3 or SiO2 fluxes. The origin for the flux effects is discussed.
