With the growth in population, traffic congestion and parking have become a serious problem. There is the explosive growth of the per capita amount of vehicles. In this paper, a Location-Based Shared Smart Parking System is proposed to solve the parking problem. This system is designed for both private and public parking areas. This system helps the user to find the nearest possible parking area and gives the information related to the availability of parking slots in that respective parking area. The main focus of this system is to reduce the time for finding the parking slot and also avoids unnecessary travelling through occupied parking slots in a parking area. The proposed system is designed using IoT technology, WSN(IR sensors), QR code and RFID technology. IR sensors are used to detect the presence of the car in the parking slot and QR code is used to authenticate the user in the public parking area, RFID technology is used to authenticate the user in private parking area. The system is expected to reduce traffic problems, fuel consumption which results in reduces carbon footprints in an atmosphere.

In today’s world, parking area constitutes nearly most of traffic congestion is caused by vehicles cruising around their destination and looking for a place to park. Due to this reason many day-to-day activities are affected such as waste of time, fuel wastage, frustration to drivers, theft fear, pollution etc. These factors motivated to pave a new method for smart parking system. In this method the detection is reliable, even when tests are performed using images captured from a different viewpoint. It also provides to design a highly reliable & compatible image segmentation measures for parking slot identification system and a user key driven data base measures to detect the vehicle using theft alarm system.

Lately, the idea of brilliant urban communities has increased awesome notoriety. Parking becomes one of the tedious tasks in our day to day life. Many efforts have been done in this field to solve parking based problems like traffic congestion, limited parking space, high parking charges, and the most basic problem is to find nearby parking space. In this paper, we proposed an algorithm that increases the efficiency of the current cloud-based smart parking system and develops a network architecture based on Internet-Of-Things technology. Our proposed system helps users automatically find a free parking space at the least cost based on new performance metrics to calculate the user parking cost by considering the distance from the user to parking area and the total number of free places in each car park. A mobile application is provided that navigate the user to the free parking space based on the efficiency based on distance and cost. This cost will be utilized to offer an answer of finding an accessible parking spot upon a demand by the client and an answer of proposing another car park if the present park is full.

In This project we are designing an IoT based Smart parking system that integrates with mobile Application. It provides a comprehensive parking solution both for the user and owner of the parking space. Features are provided for reserving a parking space, authenticating a reserved user, identifying nearest free space depending on the size of the vehicle, navigating to the parking slot and computes accounts information on daily, weekly and monthly basis. IR sensors are used to identify if a parking spot is free. Availability of a free slot with its location information is transmitted using WIFI module technology, microcontroller and wireless communication technology to the server and is retrieved though a mobile application. RFID tag attached to a vehicle is used to authenticate a user who reserves the parking slot on an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly basis. A scheduling algorithm is used to identify the nearest free slot based on the size of a vehicle. The owner of the parking space can get the analytics of the number of free and available slots for a given period, the occupancy rate on week days and weekend and the amount collected for a given period and can use it for fixing variable parking fees. The mobile application is designed to provide rich customer experience.

Finding a parking in most of the metropolitan areas, especially during the rush hours, is difficult for drivers nowadays. The iParking system proposed in this paper allows drivers to find and reserve the vacant parking slots through their smartphones and additionally support the principles of “Smart City.” The design and implementation of this proposed system called Reservation Based Smart Parking System (RSPS) is based on cloud computing and android application and finds availability of nearest parking slots. The objective is to reduce the time in finding the parking lots and avoid unnecessary traveling. The technology proposed in this paper is Infrared Sensors (IR Sensors) used for detecting the occupancy of parking slots. The iParking uses Radio Frequency Identification Devices (RFID) to identify and track a car. The methodology proposed in this paper can easily be compared with existing parking system in terms of reducing the fuel consumption.

Car parking issue has some problems with how to control the number of the car inside it, how to monitor the movement in/out side of the parking lot, how to check whether there is a place inside for more cars or not and the safety to park. It leads to traffic congestion and also pollution. So we have a need to maintain the vehicle park management in order to reduce the wastage of time. If we see in the larger cities when we visit the shopping malls or tourist places or any other commercial areas there arises a problem for parking of our vehicle. We have so many methods of parking systems such as using WSN, RFID methods. But the major drawback of those systems is they help us to find the available spaces for parking but not the exact location of those spaces. It can be overcome by using Automatic Car Parking System using IR Sensors.

With the development of road infrastructure, there is a significant increase in number of private vehicles which results in traffic congestion, directly effecting the flow of traffic, and life of citizens. Parking becomes a significant problem in the urban areas (Cao & Menendez, 2015). The research paper proposes a smart parking system to solve the current parking problem at affordable cost. Previously automatic car parking system were proposed to reduce the space or size required for parking especially in crowded places with few spaces, such as a multi-story car park providing cars with parking on multiple levels stacked vertically to increase the number of parking spaces (Ibrahim, 2017). The proposed system utilizes the latest advancement in the Information and Communication Technologies and consists of  four layers: Application, Middleware, Networking, and sensor layer. It offers environmental friendly, reduces harmful emissions during parking, and is a computerized system pre-programmed without human intervention. The research paper highlights the comparison of traditional parking system with smart parking system using IoT. The paper also proposes a framework for smart parking system.

Car parking is the major problem faced in the current major city. There are more number of vehicles around the city and the parking spaces are less in number and we need to solve this problem in the efficient parking management system. By this we demonstrate the use of IoT based Parking system that allows the effective parking space shown in the system utilization using IoT technology. The project we use IR sensors to demonstrate for the sensing things in the parking slots available in the particular parking area along with dc motor to simulate the gates open and close. We use the Wi-Fi modem for internet connectivity and a micro controller for operating system. The system detects the parking slots are occupied using IR sensors. The system reads the number of available parking slots or occupied and updates the data through the cloud based server to allow to check the parking slots are availability in online. This allows the system to check available parking spaces in online from anywhere in the world. This solution is reliable in any circumstances.
