The adaptive reuse of abandoned industrial buildings is a very hot topic in the post-industrial modern society. The re-equipment of these buildings and territories can be carried out in different directions for different functions: exhibition complexes, public centers, museums, trade enterprises. This study focuses on the renovation of such industrial buildings into hotels in China. The experience of reconstruction and related literature has been studied. The study found that since most of the post-industrial buildings in China are small in size, they are suitable for repurposing as boutique hotels. Large industrial buildings and complexes in mega cities in China can be converted into luxury hotels. Renovation of old industrial buildings into hotels makes it possible to double the average lifespan of buildings approximately up to 60-65 years.

At present, social philosophy is dominated by the view that the importance of mass culture is constantly decreasing, which soon is supposed to lead to the natural decay of this cultural form. The author refutes the arguments of those who are skeptical about the position of mass culture in the post-industrial and digital information society and shows that the functional nature of this type of culture allows it to successfully fulfill its role in modern social systems. The materials of the article can be useful in preparing courses in the framework of social philosophy.

The author proves that despite the generally accepted point of view regarding the negative functions performed by mass culture in society, i.e., first of all, simplifying consciousness, escapist, and compensatory one, there is a number of positive functions performed by mass culture in modern society. Among them, the author highlights the ability of mass culture to construct social communities and the adaptive function that becomes necessary within the framework of non-traditional — industrial, post-industrial, and informational social structures. The material of the article may be of interest as a specific methodology for the study of socio-cultural phenomena.

The amateur is the person who engages in activities that for another constitute a professional work role. Despite the global drive for professional development, amateurs are increasingly valued in the digitised economy. This leads to a series of interesting and increasingly pressing questions with regard to the nature of ‘the amateur’ in modern society and culture. Are amateurs necessarily good? Is amateurism necessarily located with amateur practitioners? Do divisions between professional producers and amateurs hold relevance to a post-industrial, network economy?

Introduction. Determination of the scientifi cally substantiated frequency of cleaning the ducts of local exhausts of industrial buildings and structures is one of the tasks in the fi eld of fi re safety of industrial enterprises. The paper describes design methods, in particular, a method for determination of the induction period during spontaneous combustion of dust deposits in air ducts of ventilation systems and equipment, which can be used in solving problems focused on the development of preventive measures to ensure their fi re and explosion safety.Methods. In order to solve the problem set in this paper and compare the indicators obtained in the calculation and analytical part of the studies with the growth dynamics of deposits in real facilities, fi eld tests have been accomplished in the production facilities of the fl our mill of OJSC MK “Voronezhsky” and JSC Concern “Sozvezdiye”.Results and discussion. The timeframes for cleaning of deposits on ventilation (aspiration) equipment of buildings and structures cannot be universal for various industries and must take into account the dynamics of the growth of deposits depending on the specifi cs of combustible deposits, the workload of the production facilities of the protected object in a given period of time, and the operating conditions of the equipment. As a result of the experiments, it was found that the places of maximum accumulations of deposits are most often formed on the surfaces of joints and on the bends of pipelines of ventilation systems. The conditions of spontaneous combustion of combustible dust are studied by calculation and analytical method, depending on such process characteristics as the speed of the dust-air mixture fl ow in the duct, as well as the diameter of the duct’s cross section.Conclusions. The nomograms built on the basis of the studies performed can be used to determine the multiplicity of cleaning of combustible dusts of equipment and air ducts of industrial ventilation systems. The paper provides a calculation of the period of induction of spontaneous combustion of combustible dust deposits using the example of rye fl our with asymmetric heat transfer. Its signifi cance is due to the process of accumulation of deposits of combustible dust to a critical thickness in terms of spontaneous combustion conditions.

The article is devoted to the consideration of the features of the formation of the appearance of objects, taking into account the technological process, the identification of fixed assets and methods of creating the spatial-spatial composition of buildings within the existing city development. These are: the Nestle plant in Mexico, the Fagus factory, the construction of the Leeds incinerator, etc. Industrial architecture is an integral part of society. The presence and functioning of industrial enterprises characterizes the economic and political independence of the state. Industrial areas are usually large in area. and environmental friendliness. It is extremely important for modern industrial design to take into account the energy efficiency of a building, as industrial buildings are directly related to the consumption of natural resources, most of which are exhausted. in the design and reconstruction of industrial facilities nowadays, in addition to taking into account the technological process, it is extremely important to pay attention to the exterior and interior decoration of buildings. This not only affects the aesthetic component of human perception, but also promotes the productivity of workers. Many industrial structures are included in the social and cultural life of the city, combining several additional functions, in addition to the main (industrial). The development of industrial architecture is closely linked to the development of facing materials, which are often used aluminum. But in the construction of industrial buildings can be used and other materials that allow you to create many color schemes. All factors determine the need to create an aesthetic environment that meets the needs of society.

Selected technical problems related to the rehabilitation of cast-iron columns in structures from the turn of the 19th and 20th century are discussed in the paper. Lack of contemporary standard regulations related to the design of cast-iron structures is a significant problem in the design works and experimental investigations on cast-iron columns are frequently required. The paper presents results of the tests concerning principal properties of cast-iron—strength and deformability. The historical design principles are discussed in the light of the results of experimental investigations. As it was demonstrated, the actual load-carrying capacities of cast-iron columns may exceed by several times the values resulting from the 20th century design rules. The conservatism of the design principles resulted, however, from the material uncertainties—lack of homogeneity and hidden defects of the cast-iron. Selected examples of failures of cast-iron columns from 19th-century structures such as post-industrial buildings and engineering structures are discussed. They resulted from errors made during adaptation works. The reasons for these failures and considered methods of repairing the structures are presented.

In the modern society, enterprises role in the energy conservation and emissions reduction has been strengthened constantly and gradually becomes an important subject of energy conservation and emissions reduction. This paper makes a simple introduction of the related situation of enterprise energy conservation and emissions reduction in Jilin province, analyzes the incentive dynamics of energy conservation and emissions reduction in enterprises, taking industrial enterprises as example, selects the corresponding indicators, does a quantitative analysis, and then puts forward countermeasures and suggestions on establishment of incentive mechanism of energy conservation and emission reduction for enterprises in Jilin Province.

Abstract The article deals with issues from the initial phase of the investment process connected with revitalizing postindustrial buildings: planning and programming investments in the functional and financial scope, as well as designing. The described formal and legal aspects are the result of a study of a few projects concerning the adaptation of buildings to serving a new function in Zielona Góra and Żaganie. The conclusions drawn from an individual view into each of the described problems are no different than when designing new buildings. It is not until we look into the whole preparation and design process, and gathering all experiences from the formal-legal sphere, that allows us to notice that, in the case of revitalizing postindustrial buildings and their adaptation to serve modern-day functions, a multifaceted but also specific approach is required.
