In this work we perform a geographical analysis of the Algarve region by using local parameters in the three map projections we consider: Transverse Mercator (TMzn), Lambert Azimuthal Equal-Area (LAEA) and Lambert Conformal Conic (LCC). We compare the Algarve maps resulting by each one of these representations when the origin of coordinates is moved from the center of mainland Portugal (that is in force) to the center of the Algarve. For the LCC map projection, the analysis takes also into account the change of the upper parallel from the North of Portugal to a latitude inside the Algarve border. The area and perimeter of the Algarve is computed and the location of its geographic center is determined in every map representation. Borders lengths that separates the Algarve from Alentejo and from Spain, and the extents of its South and West coasts, are also computed. We conclude by presenting the map, the values of area and perimeter and the location of the geographic center that should be considered for the Algarve, at different scales and for the available data.

A polyazimuthal map projection is a mapping that represents parallels as non-concentric full circles on the plane. Polyazimuthal mappings are almost never mentioned in the literature dealing with map projections. However, these projections are flexible; their distortion characteristics are highly mutable. This paper expands the theory of polyazimuthal map projections. Furthermore, this study also shows the derivation for variants of this projection family (e. g. equal-area, orthogonal). The article concludes with some practical applications in the field of low-distortion map projections to demonstrate their advantages.

A redefinition of the North American geodetic networks may well require a reappraisal of the various plane coordinate systems in use in North America. Now “plane coordinate system” and “map projection” are really only different names for the same thing. An approach to coordinate conversion is described in which each map projection (plane coordinate system) is not analyzed as an individual, but the whole set of map projections is regarded as an integrated system. The various projections are displayed in a “family tree” and conversion between two coordinate systems is performed by following the most direct path in this tree. The advantages of this approach are that 1) reduction to latitude and longitude as an intermediate step is usually unnecessary and 2) the individual steps in the tree are usually quite simple mathematically owing to the flexibility in the parameters used. The traditional approach using latitude and longitude as essential parameters often leads to ugly mathematical functions best approximated by Taylor series whose coefficients may be quite awkward to determine.

A novel square equal-area map projection is proposed. The projection combines closed-form forward and inverse solutions with relatively low angular distortion and minimal cusps, a combination of properties not manifested by any previously published square equal-area projection. Thus, the new projection has lower angular distortion than any previously published square equal-area projection with a closed-form solution. Utilizing a quincuncial arrangement, the new projection places the north pole at the center of the square and divides the south pole between its four corners; the projection can be seamlessly tiled. The existence of closed-form solutions makes the projection suitable for real-time visualization applications, both in cartography and in other areas, such as for the display of panoramic images.

Pyromaia tuberculata is native to the north-eastern Pacific Ocean and currently established in distant regions in the Pacific Ocean and southwest Atlantic. Outside its native range, this species has become established in organically polluted enclosed waters, such as bays. The Tagus estuary, with a broad shallow bay, is one of the largest estuaries in the west coast of Europe, located in western mainland Portugal, bordering the city of Lisbon. In this study, sediment samples were collected in the estuary between 2016 and 2017. Several adult specimens of P. tuberculata, including one ovigerous female, were morphologically and genetically identified, resulting in accurate identification of the species. The constant presence of adults over a 16-month sampling period suggests that the species has become established in the Tagus estuary. Moreover, their short life cycle, which allows for the production of at least two generations per year, with females reaching maturity within six months after settlement, favours population establishment. Despite being referred to as invasive, there are no records of adverse effects of P. tuberculata to the environment and socio-economy in regions outside its native range. However, due to its expanding ability, its inclusion in European monitoring programmes would indeed be desirable.

Entering the 21st century, trade relations between Vietnam and China have grown strongly, making positive contributions to the economic development of the two countries. However, the relationship in the period 2000–15 also witnessed a number of thorny issues such as a serious trade imbalance against Vietnam, the ‘North to South’ nature in the import and export structure of the two countries, Vietnam’s growing dependence on bilateral trade with China, and so on. These issues have affected negatively Vietnam’s economy. Based on data analysis, the author identifies the key characteristics of trade relations between Vietnam and China and highlights possible solutions for Vietnam to move its trade relations with China in a more balanced direction.

Title: Natural Light Intensity Analysis in Classroom; Case Study: Classroom at Bosowa University Lighting is an important part of buildings in supporting the productivity of human labor. Insufficient lighting can interfere with human activities and could cause health problems, like eye disorders. Building design must consider the functions and needs so that residents can feel comfortable. Good lighting levels can be achieved by utilizing natural and artificial lighting. The purpose of this study was to analyze the level of illumination in a room that is directly related to the openings of the building envelope and to analyze the different levels of illumination in classrooms with different orientations. Quantitative research methods by distributing measurement data in the form of tables, diagrams and graphs. Data analysis was performed using statistics and data analysis techniques, the results of the measurement were statistically descriptive. This study analyzed the differences in the level of illumination in the northern orientation and southern orientation classrooms. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded that the orientation of the building affects the level of illumination in the room. During the day the level of illumination is higher in the direction of orientation north than the direction of orientation south, especially the measurement point in the area close to the openings of the building envelope, but in this study the direction of classroom orientation towards the south is higher the level of illumination compared to the north orientation classrooms. This is understood by the treatment of building glass sheaths in the north orientation direction in the form of the use of frosted glass wallpaper, so it can be concluded that changes to the building facade affect the level of room illumination. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in building facade concepts and designing energy-efficient buildings.

<em>Permeability is one of the important of reservoir characteristics, but is difficult to predict it. The accurate permeability values can be obtained from core data analysis, but it is not possible to do at all of the well intervals in the field. This study used 191 sandstone core samples from the Upper Cibulakan Formation in the North West Java Basin. The concept of HFU (Hydraulic Flow Unit) developed by Kozeny-Carman is used to generate the relationship between porosity and permeability for each rock type. Afterward, to estimate the permeability value at uncored intervals, the statistical methods of artificial neural network based on log data are used on G-19 Well, G Field which is located in the North West Java Basin. Based on core data analysis from this research, the reservoir consists of eight HFU with different equations to estimate permeability for each HFU. From this reserarch, the results of permeability calculations at uncored intervals are not much different from the core data at the same depth. Therefore the approach of permeability prediction can be used to determine the value of permeability without performing core data analysis so that it can save the company expenses.</em>

I dedicate this article to Prof. George Lotter, who has been instrumental in the formation of more than 90 postgraduate students in practical theological studies at the North-West University (NWU). Under his guidance, a significant amount of empirical research has been conducted. This is in line with a movement among scholars, both national and international, towards a more empirical approach in Practical Theology. It is therefore indispensable that both lecturers and students in Practical Theology should further develop their empirical research capacities. In this article, it is argued for a more systematic approach during the coding and data analysis phase of qualitative research and the article concludes with a proposed model for coding and data analysis in practical theological studies.Kodering en data-analise tydens kwalitatiewe empiriese navorsing in Praktiese Teologie. Hierdie artikel word aan prof. George Lotter opgedra. Deur die jare was hy instrumenteel in die vorming van meer as 90 nagraadse studente in Praktiese Teologie by die Noord-Wes Universiteit (NWU). Baie empiriese navorsing het onder sy leiding plaasgevind. Dit is in ooreenstemming met die nasionale en internasionale tendens van ’n meer empiriese benadering in Praktiese Teologie. Dit is dus van die uiterste belang dat Praktiese Teologie-dosente en -studente se vaardighede in empiriese navorsing verder ontwikkel moet word. In hierdie artikel word aangetoon dat ’n meer sistematiese benadering gevolg moet word tydens die kodering en die data-analisefase van kwalitatiewe navorsing. ’n Model vir die kodering en data-analise vir navorsing in Praktiese Teologie word ook voorgestel.

In this article are presented the very first maps realised in a systematic way in order to determine the boundaries and register the properties of the Kingdom of Romania, at a scale of 1:20,000 in the equal-area pseudoconical Bonne projection. This projection was not applied in a uniform way for the whole territory of the country, but differently for the areas situated east and west of the Zimnicea meridian, respectively. For each of these two zones I have shown the peculiarities of applying the Bonne projection. furthermore, I explained in detail the means of establishing the nomenclatures of the maps at a scale of 1:20,000, but also at smaller scales, 1:50,000, 1:100,000 and 1:200,000. Since the analyzed map projection preserves area measurements, I verified this property on five maps at the scale of 1:20,000, chosen from both zones. Results obtained for the zone east of the Zimnicea meridian showed a 0.0005% difference, falling within the tolerated error, but for the maps situated west of the Zimnicea meridian, the area differs by about 3%. I have proved that this large difference in the area of the analyzed maps, identified at the eastern extremity of the mapped zone, is due to the fact that they are not actually bordered by the Zimnicea meridian, but by a line related to the Cartesian system used. The Bonne projection maps made for the entire Romanian Kingdom by specialists of the Romanian Army nowadays possess significant historical importance, both in terms of mapping and cadastre.
