SummaryThis paper reports on a computerised approach to the management of an epidemiological field trial, which aimed at determining the effects of insecticide-impregnated bed nets on the incidence of malaria in children. The development of a data system satisfying the requirements of the project and its implementation using a database management system are discussed. The advantages of this method of management in terms of rapid processing of and access to data from the study are described, together with the completion rates and error rates observed in data collection.

"The setting of goals and ways to achieve them is a possibility that the human species acquired with the development of language. Planning and executing, however, are different behaviors, as are the circumstances that favor or prevent them. Getting into graduate school in Brazil is still surrounded by uncertainties, including those regarding the future job market. In addition, the tasks required throughout the course present challenges for most students. Resilience, a necessary characteristic for overcoming adversity, can be investigated through different factors that favor decision-making and maintaining persistence towards the achievement of goals. In addition, self-knowledge mediates the development of these factors. Based on these fundamentals, we aimed to identify the impacts of storytelling videos, accompanied by reflection scripts, on the self-knowledge of students in graduate courses in Belém, in northern Brazil. For that, six videos, six reflection scripts and an on-line interview were prepared by the research group, in addition to an invitation to participate and a participant consent form. The videos were stored on the YouTube platform, and the other materials were made available through Google Forms. The social network WhatsApp was used to forward our invitation, the consent form and the links that allowed access to data collection instruments. Among students who underwent the initial procedures, ten went through all the steps and became participants in this research. The responses made it possible to relate the participants contact with the characters of the stories told in the videos to reflections on the need to pay more attention to themselves, in the sense of self-care and towards positive changes. It is also worth highlighting the recognition of the importance of social exchanges in effecting these changes. Although with different emphases, the results point to the occurrence of advances in the participants’ self-knowledge, with practical consequences in 90% of cases. We conclude that, in the COVID-19 pandemic situation, internet-mediated research can achieve goals beyond data collection, generating positive effects on participants lives."

This paper reports on two research results: ( 1) designing an English for Specific Purposes (esp) corpus architecture complete with annotations structured by regular expressions; and ( 2) a case study to test the design to cater for creating a specific vocabulary list using the compiled corpus. The first half of this study involved designing a precisely structured esp corpus from 190 veterinary medical charts with a hierarchy of the data. The data hierarchy in the corpus consists of document types, outline elements and inline elements, such as species and breed. Perl scripts extracted the data attached to veterinary-specific categories, and the extraction led to creating wordlists. The second part of the research tested the corpus mode, creating a list of commonly observed lexical items in veterinary medicine. The coverage rate of the wordlists by General Service List (gsl) and Academic Word List (awl) was tested, with the result that 66.4 percent of all lexical items appeared in gsl and awl, whereas 33.7 percent appeared in none of those lists. The corpus compilation procedures as well as the annotation scheme introduced in this study enable the compilation of specific corpora with explicit annotations, allowing teachers to have access to data required for creating esp classroom materials.

Kata kunci: kitab, jenis karya, pencetakan tradisional, Sunda, Pegon, Jawa Barat This paper discusses the phenomenon of the spreading of religious printed books (kitabs) in West Java, especially in Sukabumi and Cianjur, which are characterized by the use of Arabic writing in Sundanese (or known as Pegon script). The printed books (Kitabs) of those types are produced and reproduced, and are still used to this day. Therefore, this phenomenon can be called as a “living tradition”. Data collection was conducted by tracing and recording religious books (kitabs) that are pro-duced (rewritten or compossed) and reproduced (printed or duplicated) with a simple method, known as photocopying and traditional printing such as stencils, screen printing, and “shop printing”. This paper aims to map and revise the categorization of these Kitabs from previous studies based on the types of works including original essays, tuqilan (quotations), translation, sharh (explanation), khulaṣah (summary), or the other, and also based on the language and the script used. In addition, this paper also observes the institutions or individuals that are still reproducing these printed religious books such as the printing company or pesantren that publish such kitabs. At the end of this article, there are some suggestions in attempts to preserve those printed kitabs and the works. Keywords: Kitabs, type of work, traditional printing, Sunda, Pegon, West Java

This paper reports results from a study comparing perceived risk associated with various recycled water uses in two Australian locations, both in the state of Victoria: the capital city Melbourne, and Bendigo a regional urban centre. Both locations are experiencing ‘drought’, but Bendigo is experiencing this in a more acute manner. A case study is used in each location. Both case studies involve future use of recycled water in new commercial buildings. An on-line survey was used to measure attitudes to recycled water of the future occupants of both buildings. The study found perceived risk associated with 11 uses of recycled water increased as the use became increasingly personal. Interestingly, no difference in perceived risk associated with 11 uses of recycled water was found between locations. Prior experience (use) of recycled water was found to be a significant and positive factor in reducing risk perception. Various attitudinal variables were found to be significant influences on perceived risk. Results indicate that reducing perceived risk of recycled water use may increase satisfaction with its use.
