AbstractThe dorsal radiocarpal ligament (DRCL) is a dorsal capsular ligament with a significant role in carpal stability. We should consider the arthroscopic repair of the DRCL in cases of isolated DRCL tear or when the DCRL tear is the only clinically evident injury. Arthroscopic view of the DRCL tear is better through the volar radial portal. The purpose of the present article is to describe three cases of uncommon DRCL tear in patients with chronical dorsal wrist pain that were treated by arthroscopic repair. This condition can easily be unrecognized by the orthopedic surgeon if it is not specifically searched for. Good results are expected following the arthroscopic repair of an isolated DRCL tear; however, the contribution of the DRCL to the final outcome in combined repairs is difficult to isolate.

Forty-five patients with persistent ulnar-sided wrist pain and a positive ulnocarpal stress test were investigated by X-ray, arthrography, 99mTechnetium bone scanning, magnetic resonance imaging and wrist arthroscopy. Ulnar wrist pathology was positively identified in nine of 45 patients by X-ray, 18 of 37 by arthrography, 19 of 27 by bone scan, four of 33 by MRI, and in all 45 patients by arthroscopy. The final diagnosis was ulnocarpal abutment syndrome in 28 patients, traumatic triangular fibro-cartilage (TFC) tear in six, lunotriquetral (LT) ligament tear in five, TFC and LT ligament tear in one, wrist arthritis in four and cartilaginous free body in one. The ulnocarpal stress test is a useful provocative test, and a positive test suggests the presence of ulnar-sided wrist pathology. The test is sufficiently sensitive to warrant further investigation by arthroscopy.

Interest of scholars in community gardens has skyrocketed recently. However, little is known about how community gardens are adopted in post-socialist countries and what modifications took place. The present article aims to identify spatial differences and management practices of gardens organized in Hungary from a critical geography perspective. The paper presents the findings of a nationwide research based on online research and interviewing including 44 community gardens. Results show that in contrast to the gardens in the USA, these located in Hungary are organized on the peripheries (of cities) and local governments play a significant role in organizing and managing them.

The focus of the present article is on Czesław Miłosz poetry in which the Nobel Prize winner returns to his childhood places and people who played a significant role in the formation of his personality and identity. The poet links specific sides of his personality with his birthplace, Szetejnie on the River Nevezis, located “in the heart of Lithuania”. In his poetry, Miłosz devotes special attention to his mother, Weronika, from the Kunat family, and pays less attention to his father. He also remembers his grandfather Zygmunt Kunat, his wife Janina and other distant relatives. Miłosz creates the image of home and family through detailed poetic descriptions evoking at times episodes of a close relationship with his family members. Thus, the poet intends to express his appreciation for places that he is part of and gratitude to those who contributed to his existence in time, his formation and journey to eternity.

To clarify the pathology of radial-sided wrist pain with inconclusive X-ray and MRI findings, we performed arthroscopic examinations of 11 wrists in 10 patients. Physical examination and various image investigations could not identify the cause of the pain. Arthroscopy revealed partial to complete tears of the scapho-lunate interosseous ligament and synovitis and/or chondral bone defects at the scaphotrapezio-trapezoidal joint in all 11 wrists. Surgical procedures consisted of eight simple synovectomies, two ligament reconstructions and one percutaneous pinning. Pain relief was achieved in 10 wrists. One wrist which had a simple synovectomy did not recover, so underwent secondary scapho-trapezio-trapezoidal fusion. In conclusion, we found that various degrees of scapholunate interosseous ligament tear and scapho-trapezio-trapezoidal joint osteoarthritis were the main causes of radial-sided wrist pain with inconclusive X-ray and simple MRI findings.

Headlines carry more indirect messages than the direct ones. The present article aims to explore the indirect messages in CNN headlines written about a variety of political, diplomatic and security affairs in Pakistan. It also investigates the role of the linguistic as well as the contextual elements in the identification of the indirect messages carried by the headlines in the form of speech acts. The research finds that the headlines have pragmatically encoded meanings. The headlines are not just pieces of information, but they are associated with communicating a range of messages related commitment to future actions, possible future actions, announcing future actions, expressing speaker intentions regarding future activities and pledging for future. The linguistic devices and the contexts associated with the headlines play a significant role in the identification and analysis of the indirect messages in the headlines.

Madrasas played a significant role in the formation of Muslim religious thoughts in Indo-Pak Sub-Continent during the course of ninetieth and twentieth centuries. Modern scholarship focused on madrasas situated in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh such as Dar-ul-Uloom Deoband, Dar-ul-Uloom Bareli, Dar-ul-Uloom Farangi Mahal and Madrasa of Khairabad. On the other hand, they did not pay proper attention on the development of religious institutions of Punjab. The present article is an endeavour to fill this gap. The famous Bugwi family of Bhera played an important role in the transformation of knowledge in Punjab. Their madrasas were considered primary institutions for religious studies in Punjab during the course of ninetieth and twentieth centuries. Following the tradition of his ancestors, Maulana Zahoor Ahmad Bugwi established a madrasa at historic Sher Shahi Masjid Bhera, named Dar-ul-Uloom Azizia. This study aims to present the development of Dar-ul-Uloom Azizia and its contribution in the dissemination of knowledge to society during 1929 to 1975 A.D. Keywords:       Madrasa education in Punjab, Bugwi Family, Maulana Zahoor Ahmad Bugwi, Maulana Iftikhar Ahmad Bugwi, Dar-ul-Azizia, twentieth century.

The traditional systems of medicine together with folklore medicine continue to play a significant role in our health care system for the betterment of mankind. Butea monosperma (Lam.) kuntze is a commonly used herb in Ayurvedic medicine. Butea monosperma (Palas) belongs to the family Fabaceae, grown wildly in many parts of India. The plant is used highly by the rural and tribal people in curing various disorders. Butea monosperma has an effective natural origin that has a  tremendous future for research. The novelty and applicability of Butea monosperma are hidden. Such things can be overcome through modern scientific research. The present article describes various traditional and medicinal utility of the plant and an attempt was made to gather information about the chemical composition and pharmacological activity of the plant and/ or its constituents.

AbstractThe present article examines if the principle of freedom of the high seas as formulated by Hugo de Groot still plays a significant role in international law. The article starts from an analysis of De Groot's ideas on the law of the sea and then turns to the freedom of the high seas in the modern law of the sea. In both cases, the legal framework is assessed against the background of the activities that require(d) regulation. Freedom of the high seas, although it has lost ground to other ordering principles, remains significant at the level of principles. However, at the level of designing an effective regime for current problems in oceans management, which to a large extent are caused by deficiencies in the enforcement scheme implicit in freedom of the high seas, the writings of De Groot, in whose time those activities did not require any significant measure of international coordination and cooperation, offer little assistance.

The present article will concentrate on the period after the advent of Jainism till the time of Aryabhata around 500 AD. The reason for selecting this time period is that, till recently, it was thought to be a time when there was very little mathematical activity in India. This period shall be referred to as Jain Mathematics period. Basically Jain religious literature is classified into four groups. “Anuyoga”(the exposition of the principles of Jainism) and “Ganitanuyoga”(the exposition of the principles of mathematics) were considered prominent among those. The Jain Mathematics played a significant role when the Brahamin granthas went behind the scenes and Saidhantic Astronomy started taking shape.
