Project management literature has, until now, mainly focused on new build and only in the last decades the issues of decommissioning (mega) projects has arisen. To respond to this changing environment, project management will need to understand the challenges of decommissioning projects. Decommissioning projects within Oil & Gas, Chemical and Nuclear sectors are characterized by high costs, long schedules and uncertainty-based risks. The budget for Nuclear Decommissioning Projects and Programmes (NDPs) are subject to well publicized increases and, due to their relatively recent emergence, complexity and variety, key stakeholders lack a full understanding of the key factors influencing these increases. Benchmarking involves “comparing actual or planned practices [...] to identify best practices, generate ideas for improvement” [1] and offers significant potential to improve the performance of project selection, planning and delivery. However, even if benchmarking is the envisaged methodology to investigate the NDPs characteristics that impact on the NDPs performance, until now, it has only been partially used and there is a huge gap in the literature concerning benchmarking NDPs. This paper adapts a top-down benchmarking approach to highlight the NDPs characteristics that mostly impact on the NDPs performance. This is exemplified by a systematic quantitative and qualitative cross-comparison of two major “similar-but-different” NDPs: Rocky Flats (US) and Sellafield (UK). Main results concern the understanding of the alternatives of the owner and/or the contractors in relation to (1) the physical characteristics and the end state of the nuclear site, (2) the governance, funding & contracting schemes, and (3) the stakeholders’ engagement.

The necessity of identification of key talents in company is known in all sectors of economy. Therefore the aim of the paper is based on competency analysis to define key factors leading to talent identification and internalization through competency modelling. Paper characterizes areas of necessary competencies on specific job positions in companies. Their targeting on employee and teams in talent management is revealed. The objective is based on analysis of primary survey conducted on 101 agriculture companies. The data were obtained through manager surveys for which a single manager represented the given company. One-dimensional and multi-dimensional statistics were used to evaluate the data. Based on statistical analyses of required competencies five factors characterizing area of key employee and team development were identified. Those factors are inclusive approach, management support, strategic development, leadership development and integrity. The resultant factors create competency models usable in specified job positions. Limits of the paper is narrow focus on primary sector companies. The results may help surveyed companies in primary sector to set required and necessary competencies for specific areas to identify and develop employees, talents and teams.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop an integrated theoretical framework of the interrelation of the key success factors in the process of standards implementation. Design/methodology/approach – Extensive case study work was carried out in ten American plants that had adopted ISO 9001 and or ISO 14001. First, within-case analysis captures the uniqueness of the implementation processes at each plant and leads to construction of the causal maps. Next, cross-case comparison identifies the key factors and the relationship between them, resulting in the theoretical framework. Findings – The key factors affecting implementation effectiveness include focus on internal improvement, top management support, design of the system around existing processes, use of information technology, positive employees’ attitude, and employees’ usage of the system. The resulting framework suggests three alternative pathways to effective implementation of standards: (i) incentives pathway, i.e., by providing the right incentives; (ii) integration pathway, i.e., by designing the system around existing processes; and (iii) information technology pathway, i.e., by using information technology. Research limitations/implications – The key contribution of this research is the integrated theoretical framework. Practical implications – Practically, this framework provides managers a clear depiction of the key actions required at each stage of standard implementation. Originality/value – To the best of our knowledge, this is the first integrated framework of the factors affecting standard adoption. We believe this framework is applicable to other meta-standards.

This study aims to identify the critical factor influencing the project as regards successful aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) in the aviation industry. Furthermore, this research also aims to investigate whether regulation of project changes plays a role in moderating the relationship between the independent variables and dependent variables described in this research. Through the literature review process, it was found that top management support, stakeholders, key factors competency, acceptance, risk management, project plan monitoring, and effective communication are among the critical factors identified. Referring to a completed project, this research showed that project progress was in two dimensions in a maintenance context, which this research classifies as a successful micro and macro project. The macro viewpoints of project success mean the organizational stage of the project must be recognized and accomplishment relies on the consumer or collaborators to share. The micro perspective of project success can help to manage a project in small levels and is normally alluded to at the finishing line of the project. The summary result for the 4 hypotheses tested, all of them were significant. The result obtained clearly expressed all of the dependent variables have positive influences on project success in MRO aircraft in the Malaysian aviation industry. This research also demonstrates through trial and error that project key factors’ competency and project mission are critical factors in influencing the micro-project success and as well for macro project success, top management support and project mission are two main critical factors.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementations in multinational manufacturing companies have experienced various degrees of success. This article investigates factors influencing the success of ERP implementations in multinational manufacturing companies in the Malaysian Free Trade Zone. The results indicate that enterprisewide communication and a project management program are key factors influencing the success of ERP implementations, while other factors such as top management support as well as teamwork and composition are not as critical to the outcome. Organizational culture is a moderator of the relationships between enterprise-wide communication, a project management program, and the success of ERP implementations.

Green building is deemed an effective means to realize the sustainable development of environment, economy and society in the construction industry. Green building technologies (GBTS) are important to realize green buildings. In order to make the application of GBTS be adopted and popularized effectively, it is especially important for us to gain thorough comprehension of the key problems that affect the adoption of GBTS. The target of this paper is to better understand the adoption of GBTS from the perspective of designers. This article utilizes a questionnaire to investigate Chinese architectural designers. Through establishing a structural equation model and an analysis of the survey data, the key factors influencing the adoption of GBTS by designers in the Design Company were found out. The results denote that the adoption motivation, the capability of GBTS, the knowledge structure and the defects of GBTS are the significant factors that affect designers’ adoption behaviors. However, the management support of GBTS has no significant effect on designers’ adoption behavior. The research results are helpful to improve adoption of GBTS in design units and accelerate the transformation of GBTS achievements. Additionally, they can promote the application of GBTS in the field of construction. Based on the quantitative theoretical model (the structural equation model), this paper finds out the key factors that affect the application of GBTS from the perspective of designers, enriching the theoretical methods of GBTS research and complementing the relevant literature of GBTS research. Future research will analyze the adoption behavior of GBTS from the point of other stakeholders and from the internal level of the design units.

The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the key factors affecting the implementation of the core banking system in the Bank of Industry and Mine. The researcher has tested the hypotheses by using the method of applied research, using correlation type and using the standard questionnaire. The questions from the managers and experts involved in the implementation project of 150 people have been questioned by a sample of 107 people and using the Morgan formula. In this research, key factors influencing the success of core banking systems implementation were identified, among which were five senior management support, the best project management method, business process reengineering, final user training, and vendor support. The main influential variables are selected from the research literature and their effect on the implementation of the core banking system has been analyzed. The results of the research indicate that senior management support and best project management methods and end user training have had the greatest impact on the success of the core banking system.     [1] CBS

Background: This study examines the digitisation of records and archives at two state universities in Zimbabwe that have embarked on digitisation of their records and archives resources in line with new technological trends of doing business online.Objectives: One of the objectives of this research study was to identify the gaps existing in the digitisation of records and archives at the two selected state universities and recommend ways of filling those gaps. The other objective was to find out if the state universities have adopted a framework or model for the smooth digitisation process of the records and archives.Methods: The study adopted a qualitative multiple-case research design to provide an in-depth understanding of the cases of the digitisation of records and archives at the selected state universities. Data were collected via purposive sampling using interviews.Results: The major findings of this study revealed that the two state universities are digitising records and archives without a framework or model for a smooth digitisation programme.Conclusion: The study recommends for a centralised model to cater for the digitisation of records and archives at the state universities in Zimbabwe. A model for managing digital records and archives which combines best practices and top management support with a centralised approach is proposed. This model is built on integrated systems that will enable the two selected state universities to enhance cost-effectiveness, sharing and exchanging digital records and archives amongst employees. This study is pertinent as it enriches the literature in the field of records and archives management and provides strategies on the management of digital records and archives in state universities in Zimbabwe.

Statement of the problem and purpose of the article. An increase in the number of master’s programs, the problem of sustainable development of students, the attraction of employers, the introduction of modern teaching technologies actualizes the management of educational programs. The article examines the problem of personnel and academic leadership of supervisors of master’s programs in regional universities in order to determine their distinguishing socio-demographic and professional characteristics. The research methodology is based on conceptual works to study the mission of a modern university, academic leadership and human resources, principles of master’s programs design based on learning outcomes. Professional and socio-demographic characteristics were studied using a questionnaire survey of academic staff from 16 regional universities. As a result of a comparative analysis, a professional portrait of the program supervisor was compiled. Research results. The socio-demographic and professional characteristics of supervisors of different types of programs that distinguish them from an academic staff are revealed. It is shown that supervisors are characterized by a combination of research and training, the priorities of which vary depending on the type of programs; participation in the development of educational programs. Differences are noted depending on the type of a program: academic or applied. Conclusion. A supervisor of master’s program becomes one of the key factors in the development of the master’s program, the activity of which determines the need to develop special mechanisms for management support.
