The purpose of this study was to develop the School Counselor Transgender Intersex Advocacy Competence Scale (SCTIACS). The SCTIACS is a training tool to use in teaching school counselors and other school stakeholders to advocate for gender minority students. Development of the SCTIACS involved a three-step process: generating items, reducing items, and gathering data from school counselors to conduct principal component analysis and test validity and reliability.

23 school counselors were ranked according to scores on the Rokeach Dogmatism Scale. Rhos were computed between the Dogmatism Scale scores and the following scales: Opinionnaire on Attitudes Toward Education, Thurstone Interest Schedule's Executive and Humanitarian scale scores, and the Minnesota Teacher Attitude Inventory. No relationship between counselor rigidity and vocational identity (criterial measures) was observed.

This study aimed to adapt the Teaching Students With Disabilities Self-Efficacy Scale for contemporary school counseling practice. The adaptation, titled the Students With Learning Disabilities School Counselor Self-Efficacy Scale, is a resource that assesses school counselors’ belief in their ability to counsel and support students identified as having learning disabilities. The findings suggest that the scale has sound validity and reliability metrics, with a few considerations. This article also discusses implications.

This article reports on a psychometric study examining the validity and reliability of the My Class Inventory-Short Form for Teachers, an accountability measure for elementary school counselors to use as they evaluate aspects of their school counseling programs. As a companion inventory to the student version of the My Class Inventory–Short Form (Sink & Spencer, 2005), this instrument assesses teachers' perceptions of the classroom climate as they relate to five scales: overall student satisfaction with the learning experience, peer relations, difficulty level of classroom materials, student competitiveness, and school counselor impact on the learning environment. Implications for practice are included.

Research and evaluation focused on students’ attitudes towards science and mathematics require the availability of culturally appropriate instruments in the language of the studied population. We present the translation and adaptation of the Mathematics and Science Attitude Inventory for its use with Puerto Rican Spanish-speaking secondary school students, within the evaluation of a teacher professional development project. We used a cross-cultural translation and adaptation model that frames these processes in the context of establishing validity and reliability of a measure by assessing the equivalence of the original version and the translated one in various dimensions: semantic, content, technical, criterion, and conceptual. Results obtained provide evidence of the equivalence between the English and Spanish versions of the inventory, as well as the reliability and validity of both versions for our context. The feasibility and utility of the cross-cultural model used were also demonstrated. This model is a valuable guide for the translation and cultural adaption of research and evaluation instruments in diverse languages and cultures.

The authors examined the validity and reliability of the Eating Attitude Inventory for Diabetes Mellitus in a sample of 178 patients with diabetes mellitus. Reliability was supported by factor analysis, adequate internal consistency, and relatively high test-retest correlations. Validity was indicated by correlation with the Eating Attitudes Test designed for eating disorders. This inventory may be useful for assessing eating attitudes of patients with diabetes mellitus.

A program for providing information to children who are deaf about their deafness and addressing common concerns about deafness is detailed. Developed by a school audiologist and the school counselor, this two-part program is geared for children from 3 years to 15 years of age. The first part is an educational audiology program consisting of varied informational classes conducted by the audiologist. Five topics are addressed in this part of the program, including basic audiology, hearing aids, FM systems, audiograms, and student concerns. The second part of the program consists of individualized counseling. This involves both one-to-one counseling sessions between a student and the school counselor, as well as conjoint sessions conducted—with the student’s permission—by both the audiologist and the school counselor.
