Education has ever been considered as the best instrument for facilitating women empowerment and ensuring gender justice. Schools play a major role in gender socialization, and are expected to develop proper attitudes and values in children required for a gender just society. Based on the empirical studies conducted in 24 schools in Kerala, India, the gender bias existing in the overall school climate and classroom practices are exposed. The study using observation and interviews revealed that the practices in several schools are gendered with regard to the rules and regulations, dress code, seating arrangements and play provisions to boys and girls. Findings also revealed that there are gendered classroom practices existing with regard to teacher-student verbal interaction, teacher eye contact and attention, grouping of students, assigning roles and responsibilities, and disciplinary practices. Based on the findings, the author suggests measures to eliminate the gender bias from the school education system.

Abstract Adolescents in Panama face multiple challenges to their sexual health, rights and well-being such as high rates of teenage pregnancy (∼30% of all pregnancies), increased HIV infections and sexual violence. In the absence of sufficient evidence-based data and an ongoing debate in Panamanian society about how to approach adolescents’ health problems, the aim of this qualitative study was to explore the perceptions and attitudes of different societal actors, namely governmental employees, NGO employees, academics, members from religious groups, teachers and parents. We conducted in-depth interviews (N = 34) which focused on the behavioural and environmental factors considered to influence adolescents’ decision making with regard to love, friendships and family relations. Furthermore, we explored how these stakeholders viewed the role of the education system, and the potential of including social–emotional learning (SEL) in the curriculum to provide skills and capacities, which could encourage adolescents to make better decisions and improve their well-being, in general but also in the context of sexual behaviours. Analysis revealed five central themes, i.e. perceptions towards gender roles and equality, adolescents’ love (sexual) relationships, capacity needs regarding prevention of risk behaviours and the role of education, comprehensive sexuality education in schools and the potentiality of SEL in the education system. The findings of the study can enhance understanding on the views of stakeholders regarding the factors influencing adolescents’ decision making, as well as regarding the possibilities of introducing SEL in the Panamanian educational curriculum.

This article shows the numerous benefits created in the 7th-13th century A.D. by a primary education institution named Kuttab. Kuttab is an educational institution that teaches the Qur'an to be read and memorized, history to be studied, and Arabic verses. This article utilizes an approach to literature research, gathering different references related to Kuttab. The empirical content process then evaluates the relation, and conclusions are drawn from the reference analysis. This paper concludes that with education in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah, Kuttab institutions have a similar curriculum. The excellence of Kuttab focuses more on memorizing the Qur'an so that in the golden age (7-12 years), Kuttab students will remember the entire material of the Qur'an, in addition to teachers who have excelled and skills. Unlike Ibtidaiyah madrasahs, which do not focus students on memorizing the Qur'an, and as teachers in Kuttab, teachers are also far from professionalism. In comparison to the current madrasah Ibtidaiyah curriculum, the learning materials in Kuttab are thin. Keywords : curriculum, kuttab, madrasah, teacher, student.

They offer the ways to solve these problems taking into consideration the examples of their own practice as well as Russian, Soviet and world experience. Results. The education system is always sensitive and responsive to changes in society. Following the development of human, industrial, and economic relations, the educational system of relations is developed as well. Thanks to the perfection of modern information and communication technologies, new opportunities for teacher-student interaction appear allowing not only to expand the scope of joint activities, but also to make the learning process to be more individualized. Conclusions. The quality of human resources, as an important component of the productive forces of society, determines sustainable growth and the development of the socio-economic model. It is necessary to increase an attention to the training of highly professional specialists, citizens and patriots, to educating a generation of future builders of a new prosperous Russia.

This study aims to determine prospective teachers’ perceptions on the basic concepts of the education system in terms of its inputs, processes and outputs through metaphors. Phenomenological analysis was used. The participants were senior students from Gaziantep University, English Language Teaching (ELT) department and pedagogic formation program students from the English Language and Literature (ELL) department. The data were collected by asking about metaphorical perceptions related to the concepts of student, parent, school, school principal, curriculum, teaching materials, principles and methods of teaching, assessment and evaluation, ethics, class management, success and graduate students. Content analysis was employed for analysis. Teacher candidates produced 528 valid metaphors related to 13 concepts of education system. Out of these, 269 metaphors were positive, 109 were negative and 150 were related to basic features of education system. While 34 prospective teachers from ELL department produced 338 metaphors, 18 prospective teachers from ELT department produced 190 metaphors. The perceptions of teacher candidates in both groups were similar in terms of teacher, student, parent, school principal, teaching materials, ethics, and success. While ELL department students identified the concepts of school and graduate more positively, ELT department students described curriculum and classroom management more positively.

Minimal research has examined sentencing outcomes in teacher–student sexual abuse cases, while the research that has been conducted has primarily focused on gender and attractiveness. Furthermore, the body of literature examining how gender affects sentencing has contradictory findings. Age of the victim and number of victims may also play a role in sentencing outcomes. The current study aimed to better understand which factors (by examining how gender of the victim and defendant, age of the victim and defendant, and having multiple victims) are associated with sentencing outcomes in cases where teachers engage in inappropriate sexual relationships with students. The sentencing outcomes that were assessed include length of incarceration, likelihood of having to register as a sexual offender, and likelihood of being incarcerated. The current study reviewed 250 cases that were covered in the media between 2008 and 2010 that involved a defendant who was accused of sexual contact with a student whom they had contact with through their role as an educator or school staff member. Results indicate that defendant age, victim age, and whether there was one or multiple victims had significant implications for sentencing outcomes. An increase in victim age was associated with a decreased likelihood of incarceration, shorter incarceration lengths, and a decreased likelihood to be required to register as a sexual offender. An increase in defendant age was also associated with increased likelihood of incarceration. Furthermore, having multiple victims was associated with increased incarceration lengths. This study has implications for school policies and teacher training specific to building appropriate relationships and boundaries with students. Given the rise in reporting of sexual abuse cases between teachers and their students, implementing more comprehensive ethics training is paramount.

The transition of the Russian education system in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic to online platforms marked the emergence of new practices of interpersonal communication in the teacher-student relationship system. The article deals with deviant manifestations in the online space of communications. The analysis is based on the study of semantic deviations constructed by young people in the process of communication in a changing reality. The starting point of deviations is considered as a departure from the approved norms of communication in educational system, which leads to such phenomena as trolling, gaming, etc. The influence of virtualization of education on the rethinking of the norms and practices of communication by young people is considered, and the educational space itself, due to its greater openness, becomes a platform for the implementation of these deviant practices. Analysis of the data obtained during sociological research shows the nature of the differentiation of meanings in the field of online communication of young people, which is reflected in the education system.

The unprecedented situation of the COVID-19 pandemic has generated radical transformations of the Romanian education system, forcing teachers as well as students to adapt in a short time to new social conditions and to the online learning process. The paper analyzes the sustainability of the e-learning system implemented in Romania during the pandemic, and it is based on an opinion poll based on a questionnaire developed on three levels of schooling (middle school, high school, and university), analyzed from three perspectives, teachers–students–parents, and identifying the possible psychological effects on students, resulting from the corroboration of social isolation with the online continuation of the educational process. Although before the pandemic the e-learning system was rarely used by both students and teachers, the research results indicate that students have accepted online learning, even if they find it less attractive than the traditional education system. From the teacher–student–parent perspective, e-learning is an effective sustainable learning solution in current and future conditions, but it requires good collaboration between parents and teachers, careful monitoring of children’s/students’ behavior to identify and combat possible effects determined by the changing way of learning and of social realities.
