Automobile wheel of A356 alloy was cast by low pressure casting process. The effect of heat treatment process on microstructures and mechanical properties of A356 alloy cast was discussed. The results indicated that optimal parameters of heat treatment process for A356 alloy included solution temperature of 535°Cand holding time of 4.5hours, aging temperature of 145°Cand holding time of 4hours. Ultimate strength of A356 is 270MPa and elongation rate is 10%. Meanwhile, the microstructure has been apparently improved. The eutectic silicon particle became more spheroidal and distributed uniformly in matrix.

The microstructures and mechanical properties of Mg-Zn-Zr-Y alloy extruded bar with different heat treatment processes were investigated, including solution treatments of 400 oC, 450 oC and 500 oC for 3 hours followed by 170 oC×24h aging treatment, and solely aging treatments of 160 oC, 180 oC for 24hours without solution after extruding. By comparing the grain size, strength and elongation of the samples, the heat treatment processes for extruded products with high strength and with medium strength were recommended.

Changes in the mechanical properties on AZ91 Mg alloy cast into sand mold caused by heat-treatment and its microstructure were investigated by the tensile test and observation using optical and scanning electron microscopes, and chemical composition analysis. Tensile test results show that the specimens aged at 441K have larger elongation than those of aged at 489K, although they had same proof stress. The fracture surface observation reveal the cleavage fracture of aged specimen caused by the nodular structure as well as the formation of micro void around the coarse spheroidal Al-Mn-(Fe) phase.

The microstructures and mechanical properties of superalloy K465 under different heat treatment, including as as-cast, solution treatment and aging, were investigated. The results showed that γ' precipitates in as-cast condition exhibited two kinds of morphologies of fine regular cuboidal shape at dendritic arm and coarse irregular form in interdendritic region. MC carbides decomposed into M6C carbides partly after 1210°C/4h solution treatment. The high temperature stress-rupture life can be improved obviously with the increasing cooling rate. When cooling rate was lower than 70°C/min, the room temperature tensile elongation increased with cooling rate increasing. When cooling rate was higher than 90°C/min the room temperature tensile elongation decreased with cooling rate increasing. The proper cooling rate of 70oC/min~90oC/min is advantageous for the achievement of excellent comprehensive properties. When aging treatments continued the regularization of γ' resulted in the improvement of stress-rupture life and the reduction of tensile elongation. The mechanical property gap between the solution treatment and aging can be decreased with increasing cooling rate.

In this paper, with a newly self-developed rotating barrel rheomoulding machine(RBRM), microstructures and mechanical properties of rheo-die casting A356 alloy were studied. In order to clearly show the characteristic of rheo-die casting, liquid die casting and semi-solid casting were done too. The experimental results showed that microstructures of rheo-die casting were composed of solid grains, which were finer and rounder, and had fewer pores. In the three technologies, integrated mechanical properties of semi-solid rheo-die casting were the best.
