This study is an examination of a second grade teacher’s negotiation of multimodal literacies in a high performing urban primary school in Detroit. In spite of the school’s high performing record, teachers were required to adhere closely to paced curriculum and exclusive use of curriculum materials. A teacher and researcher collaboration implemented supplemental texts and negotiated innovations toward multimodal literacies with a theme entitled Fossils. An examination of peer-led discussion groups, peer-led reading logs and the focal teacher’s Interactive Whiteboard innovations demonstrates  deeper comprehension and enhanced participation due to linkages across texts and with students’ social worlds.

This study is an examination of first grade students’ participation in Book Club at a high achieving, high poverty urban primary school in Detroit. In spite of the school’s high performing record, teachers are constrained by having to adhere closely to the pacing guide and the exclusive use of curriculum literature to preserve the school’s high achieving status. Irrelevant curriculum materials surrounding the themes “Keep Trying” and “Being Afraid” led to a teacher and researcher collaboration to use relatable supplemental texts. An examination of peer-led discussion groups demonstrated deep comprehension and students’ ability to mediate personal connections and multiple perspectives.

This research aims to produce a effective module of area and perimeter plane  in primary school. This research is a research development by using the 4D model (define, design, develop, and desseminate). Phase desseminate not do. This research was to determine whether the module was designed has effective. Effectiveness module is obtained from data on student learning outcomes. The results showed that the modules of area and perimeter plane has a high effectiveness. Therefore, it was concluded that the module area and perimeter plane in primary schools has been effective. Keywords: module, area and perimeter, effective, primary school

AbstractPreparing students to become self-regulated learners has become an important goal of primary education. Therefore, it is important to investigate how we can improve self-monitoring and self-regulation accuracy in primary school students. Focusing on mathematics problems, we investigated whether and how (1) high- and low-performing students differed in their monitoring accuracy (i.e., extent to which students’ monitoring judgments match their actual performance) and regulation accuracy (i.e., extent to which students’ regulation judgments regarding the need for further instruction/practice match their actual need), (2) self-scoring improved students’ monitoring and regulation accuracy, (3) high- and low-performing students differed in their monitoring and regulation accuracy after self-scoring, and (4) students’ monitoring and regulation judgments are related. On two days, students of 9 − 10 years old from 34 classes solved multiplication and division problems and made monitoring and regulation judgments after each problem type. Next, they self-scored their answers and again made monitoring and regulation judgments. On the multiplication problems, high-performing students made more accurate monitoring and regulation judgments before and after self-scoring than low-performing students. On the division problems, high-performing students made more accurate monitoring judgments before self-scoring than low-performing students, but after self-scoring this difference was no longer present. Self-scoring improved students’ monitoring and regulation accuracy, except for low- and high-performing students’ regulation accuracy on division problems. Students’ monitoring and regulation judgments were related. Our findings suggest that self-scoring may be a suitable tool to foster primary school students’ monitoring accuracy and that this translates to some extent into more accurate regulation decisions.

Text book is material used by the students for helping the achievement of the competency standard , the purpose of education of primary and competence have (Depdiknas.2006). Of research, development text book based character education with a assure model on primary school student aimed at for (1) know the process of development text book Indonesian language based character education by using assure kind of classroom in primary school student, (2) know the quality of teks book Indonesian language based character education by using assure kind of classroom in primary school student. This research using kind of research development (research and development). A design study on four-D oriented model consisting of 4 steps in the define, design , develop, and disseminate. Data collection techniques used in the process of define used technique documentation main competence (KI) and basic competence (KD) in 2013 curriculum. Data collection techniques used in the process of design validation the technique, observation, the survey, and tests used to measure product quality based on terms of use.The result of developing teks book based character education with a assure model on primary school student that have been validated to the quality of the books according to components teaching material, the appearance of, language and graphic reached the percentage of the respective components 98,9 % , 100 % , 96,4 % , 94,8 % . The result of the observation for the use of the activity of teachers text book components, the activity of students and response students show the percentage of the respective components 93.5 %, 93,75 %, statements of some 91.7 %; and for the results of character of students to being honest, responsibility, tolerance and work together in a row the scores were 4 , 4 , 4 and 3.
