A serious of non-polar a-plane AlGaN-based multiple quantum wells (MQWs) were successfully grown on the semi-polar r-plane sapphire substrate with metal organic chemical vapor deposition technology. Intense MQWs-related emission peaks at an emission wavelength covered from 277-294 nm were observed based on the photoluminescence measurement. It was found that the employment of the trimethyl-aluminum (TMAl) flow duty-ratio modulation method which was developed based on the two-way pulsed-flows growth technique played a crucial role to control the Al composition of the non-polar a-plane AlGaN epi-layers. The non-polar a-plane AlGaN-based MQWs were deposited with the new developed TMAl flow duty-ratio modulation technique. Evident-3th order X-ray diffraction (XRD) satellite peak was observed from the high resolution-XRD measurement, proving the successful growth of non-polar a-plane AlGaN-based MQWs with abrupt hetero-interfaces.

We have demonstrated the generation of supercontinuum (SC) pulses in bulk, using femtosecond pulses directly derived from a Tm:YAP regenerative amplifier. The SC spans from 380 nm–4 μ m. Such an SC combined with the applied 1937-nm pump pulse can be used in a mid-infrared optical parametric amplifier (MIR-OPA). A full characterization of the phase and stability of the SC provides important insight into the performance of such MIR-OPA systems. Using cross-correlation frequency-resolved optical gating (XFROG), we characterized the properties of the MIR section of the SC that can be used as a seed pulse in an MIR-OPA system. The pulse-to-pulse instability rooted in the intrinsic properties of the self-phase modulation process was observed in the retrieved trace and spectrum of the SC. In addition, the effect of the pump pulse quality was studied on the obtainable SC pulses.

There are mainly two types of data modulation methods used for enhanced LOng-RAnge Navigation (eLORAN) systems: pulse position modulation (PPM) and supernumerary interpulse modulation (SIM). The typical application for PPM is tri-state PPM (3S-PPM), also known as Eurofix. The typical application for SIM is ninth pulse modulation. Both of these methods are phase modulation methods. Phase modulation coding, a very mature technology, is used at present. To achieve a better demodulation success rate of eLORAN digital modulation signals at longer distances, a method of using the transmitting station duplex mode to transmit a digital modulation pulse group after LORAN-C transmitting a pulse group is proposed to realize modulation pulse on–off modulation. In this method, a broadcasting experiment was performed on the BPL (The call sign of eLORAN time service system in China) broadcaster station. After monitoring, a good receiving demodulation effect was initially obtained.
