AbstractGlobal Helium ion irradiation can tune the magnetic properties of thin films, notably their magneto-crystalline anisotropy. Helium ion irradiation through nanofabricated masks can been used to produce sub-micron planar magnetic nanostructures of various types. Among these, perpendicularly magnetized dots in a matrix of weaker magnetic anisotropy are of special interest because their quasi-static magnetization reversal is nucleation-free and proceeds by a very specific domain wall injection from the magnetically “soft” matrix, which acts as a domain wall reservoir for the “hard” dot. This guarantees a remarkably weak coercivity dispersion. This new type of irradiation-fabricated magnetic device can also be designed to achieve high magnetic switching speeds, typically below 100 ps at a moderate applied field cost. The speed is obtained through the use of a very high effective magnetic field, and high resulting precession frequencies. During magnetization reversal, the effective field incorporates a significant exchange field, storing energy in the form of a domain wall surrounding a high magnetic anisotropy nanostructure's region of interest. The exchange field accelerates the reversal and lowers the cost in reversal field. Promising applications to magnetic storage are anticipated.

We investigate by electrical transport the field-induced superconducting state (FISC) in the organic conductor λ- (BETS) 2 FeCl 4. Below 4 K, antiferromagnetic-insulator, metallic, and eventually superconducting (FISC) ground states are observed with increasing in-plane magnetic field. The FISC state survives between 18 and 41 T, and can be interpreted in terms of the Jaccarino-Peter effect, where the external magnetic field compensates the exchange field of aligned Fe 3+ ions. We further argue that the Fe 3+ moments are essential to stabilize the resulting singlet, two-dimensional superconducting state. Here we provide experimental evidence indicating that this state, as well as the insulating antiferromagnetic ground state, is extremely sensitive to hydrostatic pressure.

Abstract Existing resonant tunneling modes in the shape of line-type resonances can improve the transport properties of the junction. Motivated by the unique structural properties of monolayer WSe2 e.g. significant spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and large direct bandgap, the transport properties of a normal/ferromagnetic/normal (NFN) WSe2 junction with large incident angles in the presence of exchange field (h), off-resonance light (∆Ω) and gate voltage (U) is studied. In a certain interval of U, the transmission shows a gap with optically controllable width, while outside it, the spin and valley resolved transmissions have an oscillatory behavior with respect to U. By applying ∆Ω (h), an optically (electrically) switchable perfect spin and valley polarizations at all angles of incidence have been found. For large incident angles, the transmission resonances change to spin-valley-dependent separated ideal line-type resonant peaks with respect to U, resulting in switchable perfect spin and valley polarizations, simultaneously. Furthermore, even in the absence of U, applying h or ∆Ω at large incident angles can give some spin-valley dependent ideal transmission peaks, making h or ∆Ω a transmission valve capable of giving a switchable fully spinvalley filtering effect. These findings suggest some alternate methods for providing high-efficiency spin and valley filtering devices based on WSe2.
