This study investigates the level of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) use in teaching English as a foreign language (EFL) in Morocco. It explores the effects of EFL teachers' personal and technology-related variables in ICT use in English high school classes. The study opts for a descriptive and an analytical method to account for this claim. Therefore, a mixed-methods approach is used. A survey questionnaire and interviews are conducted to obtain a corpus of data that is both representative and reliable. The sample of our study consists of thirty teachers of English in six high schools in the city of Meknes. The findings indicate that ICT integration in the EFL classes in Morocco is hampered due to different variables. Interior variables refer to the teacher's attitude and dilemma towards using ICT; while exterior ones are strongly associated with the lack of ICT facilities and ICT related equipment in the Moroccan high schools.

This study aims to know the use of ICT frequency and purposes among EFL university students. It is also examines the students’ perception and expectation towards ICT use in learning English as a foreign language. This research applied quantitative approach with a survey research design. The data were collected from a survey which involved 337 students who were selected using stratified random sampling technique from 13 faculties of a state university in Jambi, Indonesia. The instrument used in collecting the data was a questioner adapted from Tri and Nguyen (2014). Data collected were analyzed by using SPSS 23 in form of descriptive quantitative. The findings indicated that the students spent more time in using ICT for general purposes than English learning purposes. On the other hand, they showed positive attitudes towards the use of ICT in learning English. The students perceive that ICT has the important role in improving their English language skills, and they expected that the teachers use ICT more frequently in teaching and learning process. Furthermore, they expected that campus can provide sufficient equipment and ICT access in each classroom in order to make the learning process become effective.

В данной статье авторы делятся опытом проведения телемостов между изучающими РКИ в школе Enjoy Russian в г. Петрозаводске и студентами Высшей школы языкового посредничества Adriano Macagno в г. Кунео. Цель таких мероприятий – желание педагогов разнообразить аппарат коммуникативных упражнений, применяемых ими в обучении, а также повысить мотивацию у учащихся, в особенности у студентов, изучающих русский в Италии, где зачастую недостаточно возможностей для естественной речевой практики. Задачей телемостов стало создание ситуаций живого общения с заданными целями, стимулирующими участников к активному использованию языковых средств, усвоенных ранее в рамках пройденной темы. Общение с незнакомыми людьми, которые также изучают русский язык, но в другой стране послужило мотивирующим фактором, побуждающим искренний интерес к обмену информацией и желание узнать о собеседнике как можно больше. В рамках данной статьи подробно описываются преимущества и недостатки телемостов, особенности их проведения. Характеризуется не только формат общения участников через программу Skype, но и другой, не столь популярный в сфере обучения иностранным языкам вид дистанционного общения – обмен аудиосообщениями посредством мобильного приложения WhatsApp. In the article, the authors share their experience in conducting teleconferences between the students, who study Russian language at Enjoy Russian in Petrozavodsk and Adriano Macagno high school in Cuneo. The goal of the teleconferences was to diversify communicative exercises the teachers use, and to increase students’ motivation, especially Italian students, because in Italy, there are usually not enough opportunities for speaking practice in Russian. Teleconferences were meant to create situations of natural communication with some objectives that stimulated the participants to actively use the language tools (vocabulary and grammar) that they have learned before. Communication with strangers that are also learning the Russian language, but in another country, was for sure a motivating factor that indulged a sincere interest towards exchanging the information and finding out as much as possible about the partner. In this article, the authors describe in details advantages and disadvantages of teleconferences, their special features. The authors do not only characterize distant communication through Skype, but also not such a popular tool among teachers of Russian as a foreign language – WhatsApp audio files exchange.

Abstract Providing adequate speech therapy services to Latinos who stutter can present challenges that are not obvious to the practicing clinician. This article addresses cultural, religious, and foreign language concerns to the therapeutic relationship between the Latino client and the clinician. Suggestions are made for building cross-cultural connections with clients and incorporating the family into a collaborative partnership with the service provider.

Abstract. Eye movements of children (Grade 5-6) and adults were monitored while they were watching a foreign language movie with either standard (foreign language soundtrack and native language subtitling) or reversed (foreign language subtitles and native language soundtrack) subtitling. With standard subtitling, reading behavior in the subtitle was observed, but there was a difference between one- and two-line subtitles. As two lines of text contain verbal information that cannot easily be inferred from the pictures on the screen, more regular reading occurred; a single text line is often redundant to the information in the picture, and accordingly less reading of one-line text was apparent. Reversed subtitling showed even more irregular reading patterns (e.g., more subtitles skipped, fewer fixations, longer latencies). No substantial age differences emerged, except that children took longer to shift attention to the subtitle at its onset, and showed longer fixations and shorter saccades in the text. On the whole, the results demonstrated the flexibility of the attentional system and its tuning to the several information sources available (image, soundtrack, and subtitles).

Nearly all Canadian universities employ, as a standard for university admission, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). In light of considerable evidence indicating only a weak relationship between TOEFL scores and academic achievement, the Canadian Psychological Association recently issued a report containing a position statement that called upon Canadian universities to refrain from employing the TOEFL in this manner. Because the concerns raised in the report are likely to apply to many universities outside Canada, the entire report is reproduced in this article.
