The influence of eccentricity at intersections of truss members on the load carrying capacity of the truss joint is presented in the paper. The research truss elements were designed as cold-formed open cross section. Analytical calculations, numerical analysis and experimental research were conducted to reveal how the eccentricity affects the effort of material in the joint area. The results of analysis and investigations are compared and discussed. The main achievement of the tests carried out is statement that slender plane members of the compression chords are safe compared with the results of analytical calculations.

In Europe, especially in Poland, wood-fired stoves remain one of the most popular renewable household heating. The use of wood logs in small-scale units stoves are expected to increase substantially. The work proposes a comprehensive approach to modify the design of wood stoves with heating power up to 20 kW, including design works, simulations, and experimental research. The article also presents the numerical study of a combustion process including fluid flow, chemical combustion reaction, and heat exchange in the wood stove. The retrofit enhanced a more stable heat release from the wood stove, which increased efficiency and reduction of the harmful components of combustion.

The paper presents the numerical analysis of the impact of removing a corner column on the behavior of a continuous slab-column structure. The model uses the minimal reinforcement amount compliant with Eurocodes. The basis for numerical modelling was the experimental research of a piece of a slab-column structure with the dimensions of 3.0×3.0 m in column axes. The article includes a detailed description of the assumed conditions of the model support, the method of loading and reading of the results. The paper also compares the obtained results of numerical calculations with experimental results.

Welded joints in a 30 meter span aluminium truss girder were investigated numerically and experimentally. Since aluminium design rules for welded K-and N-joints in CHS truss girders were lacking the joints were checked using steel design rules. Calculations showed that the N-joints were governing for chord and brace sizes. Further numerical analysis on the N-joints using ANSYS 11.0 was carried out. Full scale experimental research was successfully carried out for validation of the numerical calculations. It is concluded that steel design rules predict the failure behavior and failure mode of the considered aluminium N-joints well. However, steel design rules overestimate the failure load by 8% for the truss configurations investigated.

At the construction of complex concrete structures of the laser centre, the client required verification of casting procedures on large scale models. Models of the thick floor slab and of the thick wall were built in the scale 1:1, where the temperatures induced by heat of hydration and shrinkage strains were measured. The results of the experiments showed that the measured strains were larger than those expected on the basis of prediction according to European codes. Experimental results were compared with the results of numerical analysis.

The clearances in pitch mechanism of gun, such as barrel-guide, have important influence on firing accuracy. Since the sliding pair is the typical characteristics of slide plate of gun barrel and guide’s contact, the clearance can be simplified to the cantilever beam with a small gap. Dynamics models which influence the factors on cantilever clearance are established by cantilever clearance sets. The influence of clearance and the flexibility of clearance are simulated and vilified by numerical analysis. The results of the experiments are that the response signals in time domain reflect clearance size: in the same intensity under sinusoidal excitation, with enlargement of the clearance, the peak value of gun barrel time-domain signal is smaller. The current work can be referred by the gun firing accuracy design.

The squeezed branch pile is a kind of frictional end bearing pile which is variable cross-section, a new type of pile foundation with characteristics of high bearing capacity and low settlement. In order to explore vertical settlement regularity of the squeezed branch pile, this paper carries out the theoretical analysis and experimental research on the consolidation settlement law of the squeezed branch pile through the numerical method and static load test. The results of numerical analysis and experimental research show that vertical consolidation settlement is reduced along with increase of the squeezed branch pile diameter, and the settlement of the squeezed branch pile is given priority to consolidation.
