Abstract The docking structure has broad application prospects in the construction of tower assembly. However, the docking structure has a relatively large quality, which has a greater impact on the operations of high-altitude workers. This paper studies the impact force on docking structure during the docking process. The finite element analysis (FEA) model of the docking structure and the tower section is established and the impact force of the docking structure under various wording conditions is calculated. Based on the calculation results of the impact force the lightweight research of the docking structure is carried out and the optimization constraint conditions are proposed. The simulation model is established by ANSYS and the optimization design of guiding tools and vertical limit tools are completed by adjusting the structural parameters. After the optimization design, the docking structure is trial-produced and tested. Through the method of FEA and experiment, a butting device that meets the requirements of strength and rigidity and is lighter in weight is obtained. Compared with the existing docking structure, the weight of the optimized docking structure is reduced by about 39%. The research results can provide a reference for the design of the docking structure.

As a novel robot which mainly engages in the demolition and transformation of various concrete buildings, the demolition robot has developed rapidly in recent years. The impact force is mainly produced by the breaking hammer installed in the front end of the arm. As the most important part of a demolition robot, the boom arm is mainly composed of four parts including a supporting arm, a main arm, a fore arm, and a breaking hammer system. In this article, a mechanical model of the boom arm is established, and the finite element analysis obtaining the first four-order natural frequencies and modes is carried out in ANSYS Workbench. The results reveal that the resonation can be easily stimulated when a hydraulic breaking hammer is at the second-order frequency. The mounting block of the hydraulic breaking hammer, the hinge parts of the supporting arm, and the main arm are easily deformed or damaged in the Y direction by analyzing the deformation in three directions of the second-order mode. After the structure optimization, the vibration characteristics of the two parts are significantly enhanced, which provides a theoretical basis for optimizing the prototype and gives a reference in the experimental modes.

Abstract To obtain the collision characteristics of potatoes colliding with steel rods of different parameters, the finite element analysis (FEA) method was used to study the impact contact stress, collision displacement, acceleration and impact force. The results showed that with increasing rod diameter, the maximum collision displacement of the potato in the Y direction decreased, and the maximum collision acceleration and impact peak force increased. With increasing rod tilt angle and rod spacing, the maximum collision displacement increased linearly, but the maximum collision acceleration and impact peak force decreased linearly. Within the range of analysis factors, the fluctuation of the maximum collision displacement, acceleration and impact peak force caused by the change in rod diameters were the smallest, which were 0.34 mm, 38 m/s2 and 9 N, respectively. When potatoes collided with single and double rods, all the collision characteristics increased with the increase in potato drop height, and the results for double rods were significantly smaller than those for single rod collision. When the potato mass was 250 g, the drop height was 200 mm for single rod collision or 250 mm for double rod collision, the impact contact stress reached the yield stress, and the potato was damaged. This article provides a data basis and a referenced method for the optimized design of the structural parameters and working parameters of the rod separator in the process of potato mechanized harvesting.

Abstract This paper analyzes the change of brake torque during normal stop and emergency braking of elevator. Taking the permanent magnet synchronous elevator traction machine as an example, the mechanical characteristics of the brake wheel and brake shoe on the brake under emergency braking are analyzed. According to the finite element analysis and calculation results, the impact and stress of the elevator are the largest at the moment of emergency braking, reaching 270.3MPa, and the strain increases gradually. The analysis results can provide reference for the design and verification of brake wheel and brake shoe of elevator traction machine.

Spiders rely on a hydraulic system to stretch their legs but use muscles to make their legs flex. The compound drive of hydraulics and muscle makes an integrate dexterous structure with powerful locomotion abilities, which perfectly meets the primary requirements of advanced robots. Inspired by this hydraulics-muscle co-drive joint, a novel flexible joint actuator was proposed and its driving characteristics were preliminarily explored. The bio-inspired flexible joint manifested as a double-constrained balloon actuator, which was fabricated by the composite process of 3D printing and casting. To evaluate its performance, the mathematical model was deduced, as well as the finite element analysis (FEA) model. A series of experiments on the rotation angles, driving forces, and efficiencies of the flexible joint were carried out and compared with the mathematical calculations and FEA simulations. The results show that the accuracy of the two theoretical models can be used to assess the joint actuator. The locomotion test of a soft arthropod robot with two flexible joints was also implemented, where the moving speed reached 22 mm/s and the feasibility of the proposed flexible joint applied to a soft robot was demonstrated.

This paper presents an investigation of a novel linear-type piezoelectric ultrasonic actuator for application in a Smart Fuze Safety System (SFSS). Based on the requirements of SFSS, the structural parameters of the proposed piezoelectric ultrasonic actuator are determined by fuze arming mode. Moreover, sensitivity analysis of the structural parameters to the frequency consistency is conducted using FEM software, after which the optimal dimensions are obtained with two close natural vibration frequencies. To validate the results of FEM, the frequency sweep tests of the piezoelectric ultrasonic actuator are performed to determine the motor’s actual working mode frequencies with PSV-300-B Doppler laser vibrometer system. Furthermore, the results of frequency sweep test are compared with that of the finite element analysis, and further verified by impedance analyzer. To investigate the overall performance of the piezoelectric ultrasonic actuator, vibration modes of actuator’s stator, output speed and force of the piezoelectric ultrasonic actuator are tested. The experimental results show that the output speed and force of the actuator can reach 88.2 mm/s and 2.3N respectively, which means that piezoelectric ultrasonic actuator designed in this paper can meet the demands of the SFSS.

The finite element analysis model was built as the real scale for mortar arch framework slope protection, and the displacement and strain at different points were collected by vertical loading pressure. So the mechanical mechanism can be studied, and the analysis was done between calculation results and testing results of solid miniature model. The studying results show that the point on the arch foot is the worst stress place for each arch, and the total displacement increase nonlinear as the distance from the slope top increases, and the bump phenomenon exists in the bottom of slope, the points are likely to be broken.

Accidental loads, for example, due to heavy dropped objects, impact from the trawl gear and anchors of fishing vessels can cause damage to pipelines on the sea bed. The amount of damage will depend on the impact energy. The indentation will be localized at the contact area of the pipe and the impacting object, however, an understanding of the extent of the damage due to an impact is required so that if one should occur in practice an assessment can be made to determine if remedial action needs to be taken to ensure that the pipeline is still serviceable. There are a number of parameters, including the pipe cross section and impact energy, which influence the impact behaviour of a pipe. This paper describes the response, and assesses the damage, of mild steel pipes under high mass low velocity impacts. For this purpose full scale impacts tests were carried out on mild steel pipe having diameter of 457 mm, thickness of 25.4 mm and length of 2000 mm. The pipe was restrained along the base and a 2 tonnes mass with sharp impactor having a vertical downward velocity of 3870 mm/sec was used to impact the pipe transversely with an impact energy of 16 kJ. It was found from the impact tests that a smooth indentation was produced in the pipe. The impact tests were then used for validation of the non-linear dynamic implicit analyses using the finite element analysis software ABAQUS. Deformations at the impact zone, the rebound velocity, etc, recorded in the tests and the results of the finite element analysis were found to be in good agreement. The impact tests and finite element analyses described in this paper will help to improve the understanding of the response of steel pipes under impact loading and can be used as a benchmark for further finite element modelling of impacts on pipes.
