AbstractWe present the experimental observation of the reduction of multiple scattering of high-energy positively charged particles during channeling in single crystals. According to our measurements the rms angle of multiple scattering in the plane orthogonal to the plane of the channeling is less than half that for non-channeled particles moving in the same crystal. In the experiment we use focusing bent single crystals. Such crystals have a variable thickness in the direction of beam propagation. This allows us to measure rms angles of scattering as a function of thickness for channeled and non-channeled particles. The behaviour with thickness of non-channeled particles is in agreement with expectations whereas the behaviour of channeled particles has unexpected features.

We present two methods to extract the chemical potentials of quarks in high energy collisions. The first method is based on the ratios of negatively/positively charged particles, and the temperatures extracted from the transverse momentum spectra of related hadrons are needed. The second method is based on the chemical potentials of some particles, and we also need the transverse momentum spectra of related hadrons. To extract the quark chemical potentials, we would like to propose experimental collaborations to measure simultaneously not only the transverse momentum spectra ofp-,p,K-,K+,π-, andπ+, but also those ofD-,D+,B-, andB+(even those ofΔ++,Δ-, andΩ-) in high energy nuclear collisions.

Abstract The ionization loss spectra of high-energy negatively charged particles which move in the planar channeling mode in a silicon crystal are studied with the use of numerical simulation. The case when the crystal thickness is on the order of the dechanneling length $$l_d$$ld is considered. It is shown that in this case the shape of the spectrum noticeably depends on $$l_d$$ld. The evolution of various characteristic parameters of the spectrum with the change of $$l_d$$ld is investigated. A method of the experimental determination of $$l_d$$ld on the basis of the measurement of the ionization loss spectrum is proposed.

The Pierre Auger Observatory is the world's largest experiment for the measurement of ultra-high energy cosmic rays (UHECRs). These UHECRs are assumed to be to be charged particles, and thus are deflected in cosmic magnetic fields. Recent results of the Pierre Auger Observatory addressing the complex of energy ordering of the UHECRs arrival directions are reviewed in this contribution. So far no significant energy ordering has been observed.

The pseudorapidity distribution of relativistic singly charged particles produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions is described by the thermalized cylinder picture. The calculated results are in agreement with the experimental data of lead-induced interactions at 158A GeV/c. PACS Nos.:25.75.-q and 25.75.Dw
