Abstract The cost of housing construction tends to continue to increase and various efforts have been made to reduce the cost of building special houses. One of the technologies chosen in the construction of special houses with a fast process is to use a fabricated modular construction system. The purpose of this research is to produce a technical design for the Special House as a reference in the optimal and efficient physical construction of the Special House. Research and development research methods by way of assessing and testing a product. Product assessment and testing were carried out on 11 manufacturers who fit the criteria and have produced prefabricated / precast houses. After the implementation of primary data collection, it was concluded that there were 8 Manufacturing Modular Construction systems that were likely to be optimally applied to special home products. The conclusion of the research is based on an assessment matrix from the aspects of the work system, time to work, the number of workers, financial, social and cultural as well as zoning, which get the highest score, namely Steel as the main structure. Steel has been tested for its structural strength and can produce quite a number of building material components.

This study investigated the marketing of frozen fish in Kaduna metropolis, Kaduna state. Ten (10) markets were purposively selected due to high concentration of frozen fish marketers and the volume of trading activities; Primary data were generated through the use of structured questionnaire administered to hundred (100) randomly selected retailers and fifteen (15) purposively selected wholesalers. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistic, budgeting technique, net marketing and rate of return on capital invested. The result show that majority 80 percent and 53 of the retailers and wholesalers were female, Majority (70prcent) of the retailers had primary education but most of the wholesaler’s attained tertiary education. The frozen fish marketing channels identified in the area are made up of zero and multi stage channels. Furthermore, the cost and return analysis revealed that the wholesalers realized about N121, 000.00 naira while the retailers got N56, 000.00 naira per month while return to per capital invested (RPCI) was 11 kobo and 22 kobo per Naira invested for the wholesalers and the retailers respectively. This implies that the enterprise is profitable. Transportation difficulties and marketing charges ranked were major constraints confronting frozen fish marketers. It is recommended that provision of good roads network and formidable integrated marketing system will further improve the profitability of the enterprise in the study area.

Analysis of Expense Standards (ASB) is a guideline used to analyze the reasonableness of workload or cost of each activity undertaken by the Unit (SKPD) in one fiscal year. The purpose of this research is to develop ASB especially for activity provision of stationery (ATK). The data used in this research is secondary data obtained from the DPA-SKPD Sungai Penuh City government. The primary data of interviews with leaders and some of the staff as well as the relevant officials. Data analysis method used is a simple regression. Simple regression analysis is a method of forecasting which will predict the cost standards for ATK activities. This activity is affected by the triggering factors (cost drivers) is the amount of activity. The results of this study in the form of equations where the standard shopping ASB ATK influenced by the activity of providing fixed expenditure and expenditure variables. Shopping variable for this activity is influenced by the amount of activity. To create a model for the analysis of expenditure standard ATK activity is grouped into nine (9) functions of government services consisting of the economic service./unction, the function of health care, educational services, protective services, public services, tourism services and security, public services and housing facilities, service districts, and village services. Verify the reasonableness of calculations based on the formulation of the model ASB shopping on 9 functions of government services shows that the value of expenditure contained in each DPA SKPD can be approved based on the criteria of fairness shopping. However, there are obstacles in the processing of data in the form of data on some SKPDs DPA form the basis of ASB which included incomplete and the allocation of its budget is too high thus affecting the results of the formulation ASB. It is hoped that this study provides an overview to the team of local government budgets to increase performance budgeting in the future.

This research investigates how indigenous knowledge helps to reduce disaster risks in the coastal areas of Bangladesh, specifically in the study area of Kutubdia, Cox’s Bazaar. The location of the coastal area of Bangladesh is funnel shaped which is regarded as one of the most vulnerable cyclone-prone regions in the world because of its location and physiography. Almost every year coastal people experiences this nature induced devastation and loses their lives and property. However, to cope with this type of natural calamity and minimize their loss, coastal people apply their inherited practical knowledge that has been aimed to explore by this research. To conduct this research three types of survey methods has been used: primary data were collected using Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) tools, Focus Group Discussion(FGD) and semi-structured questionnaire survey. First of all, the study explored interesting house construction practices, techniques and protection maneuvers those reflect the ideas of indigenous knowledge of coastal people as primitive adaptation strategies to the cyclone disaster. It has also been found that the other indigenous practices like early cyclone warning system from nature including animal behavior and weather condition. This study aims to identify the cost, revenue, and income of soybean farming, identify the feasibility of soybean farming, identify the breakeven point and change the break-even point due to changes in selling prices in Jatiwaras District, Tasikmalaya Regency. The method used in this study is a survey method, while the data used consists of primary data and secondary data. Determination of sample farmers using the Two Stage Cluster Random Sampling method, with a sample size of 65 people with a proportion of 27 farmers in paddy fields and 38 farmers in land, from a population of soybean farmers as many as 185 people.            The results of this study indicate that the cost of soybean farming per hectare in paddy fields is Rp. 5,896,896.90 with receipts of Rp 8,478,139.53 and income of Rp. 2,581,242.63, while the cost of soybean farming per hectare on land is Rp. 4,163,487.48 with receipts of 8,342,774.57 and income of Rp. 4,179,287.09. Soybean farming in land is more feasible to be cultivated with an R / C value of 2.01 while the R / C value in paddy fields is 1.45. Minimum acceptance received by farmers from soybean farming so as not to lose in one planting season of Rp. 63,911.14 in paddy fields and Rp. 668,378.02 in land, the minimum production volume received by farmers from soybean farming so as not to lose in one planting season is 10.65 Kg in paddy fields and 111.40 Kg in land and minimum land area that must be processed by farmers so that no loss in one planting season of 0.01 ha in paddy fields and 0.08 ha on land. Decrease in output price of Rp. 1,000.00 (16.67%) causes the minimum acceptance received by farmers from soybean farming so as not to lose in one planting season of Rp. 100,196.38 in paddy fields and Rp. 767,384.61 on land. The margin value of safety on soybean farming is 90.53 in wetland and 82.40 in land area

Cutting is the process in which goods or garment material are cut and converted into pattern shapes of the goods or garment components. There are two methods of Leather cutting, which are hand cutting and machine cutting. Hand cutting is done with the use of hand knife, cutting board and cutting patterns. Machine cutting can be done using semi-automatic cutting machines or fully-automatic cutting machines. Currently, in Ethiopia, different local and foreign investors are participating in leather products manufacturing. Most of the leather product manufacturing industry and some Small and Medium enterprise’s (SME’s) in the country are using leather cutting machines in order to cut leather goods or garment parts. Most of the industry and SMEs are using imported cutting board made of plastics and rubbers. However, these cutting boards are expensive.   This research aimed at developing a cutting board made from HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) plastic waste as main material, calcium carbonate as a filler and glass fiber as a reinforcing material. Primary and secondary data gathering techniques were applied simultaneously. Primary data were collected through interview and field observation. Secondary data was gathered by reviewing different literature. The cutting board developed through collecting HDPE plastic waste, washing, shredding and melting the shredded plastic with filler and reinforcing material. The melted plastic poured in to cutting board mold and cooled. The developed cutting board was compared with HDPE cutting board available in the local market. The developed board showed relative compression and hardness properties with the HDPE cutting board available in the market. In the cost analysis, the developed cutting board is cheaper than the cutting board which available in the market. However, the cutting board in the market has better surface texture and quality than the developed cutting board. Melting HDPE plastic waste using metal or clay cooking pots and charcoal fire is a tedious task and smoke from the fire will cause human health problem and will affect environment. Consequently, manual plastic melting method is not feasible for mass production, because it is difficult to control the amount of heat (charcoal fire) during melting process. Based on this the authors recommend using machine based plastic melting and molding during HDPE and related plastic recycling.

PurposeAcross the globe, the dearth of certainty about the cost of sustainable buildings (SBs) remains a critical disincentive to their adoption. This study explored the factually incorrect knowledge about the cost of SBs and their implications on adoption.Design/methodology/approachThe study adopted sequenced mixed qualitative and quantitative approaches involving a literature review, Delphi study and survey. Semi-structured and structured self-study questionnaires were administered to a random sample of green building experts, researchers and registered construction professionals with deep knowledge of SB. The dataset from 254 stakeholders was analysed for commonality, principal components and critical misperceptions using multivariate approaches.FindingsThe predominant misperceptions in the study linked low adoption of SB to cost premium, portray cost premium as a property of luxury sustainable features and suggest related practices are suitable for exemplary projects only. The critical misperceptions produced various misinterpretations that inhibit the adoption of SB through the dearth of policies, increased complexities and inflation of budget to curb perceived risks.Practical implicationsThe study buttressed the imperative to improve cost information, knowledge, skills and stakeholders' risk perceptions to increase SB adoption. The results provide insight into the regional misperceptions and knowledge gaps that could explain the low adoption of SB in a typical emerging green market.Originality/valueThe study showed that the prevalent knowledge about the cost of SB among construction stakeholders are unsupported beliefs and directs attention to emerging issues critical to SBs' adoption in emerging markets.

This chapter creates a place in which TQM (total quality management) differs from business sustainability. Management can focus themselves more accurately when they understand the missing link between these two aspects. It also helps to reduce and eliminate certain wastes related to cost and efficiency and helps to produce better quality with minimum waste. In this study, a TQM framework is developed according to a comprehensive literature review: primary data collection through a structured questionnaire and interview of performers/nonperformers at various levels in different organizations. Analysis of data is used to establish the relationship between attributes of TQM and business sustainability. TQM enhances the cost effectiveness while helping suppliers to produce enhanced quality to their customers and with minimum efforts and lesser rejection. Analysis of data is used to establish the relationship between attributes of TQM and cost effectiveness in an organization.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to estimate the cost of seismic resilience of identified vulnerable lifeline public buildings in earthquake-prone Himalayan province of Uttarakhand in India. Design/methodology/approach Built area of the identified vulnerable lifeline buildings together with prevalent rate of construction has been considered for assessing the cost of seismic resilience while improvised rapid visual screening (RVS) technique, better suited to the built environment in the region, has been used for assessing seismic vulnerability. Findings Investment of US$250.08m is assessed as being required for ensuring seismic safety of 56.3, 62.1, 52.9, 64.6, 71.9 and 61.7% surveyed buildings, respectively, of fire and emergency services, police, health, education, local administration and other departments that are to become non-functional after an earthquake and result in a major socio-political turmoil. A total amount of US$467.71m is estimated as being required for making all the buildings of these departments seismically resilient. Research limitations/implications Actual investment estimates and reconstruction/retrofitting plans have to be prepared after detailed investigations as RVS technique only provides a preliminary estimate and helps in prioritising buildings for detailed investigations. Practical implications This study is intended to provide a snapshot of the state of seismic vulnerability together with the financial resources required for corrective measures. This is to help the authorities in planning phased mobilisation of financial and technical resources for making the built environment seismically resilient. Social implications This study is to bring forth awareness on this important issue and consequent public opinion in favour of safety of public facilities to ensure allocation of appropriate financial resources together with changes in techno-legal regime for the cause of earthquake safety. At the same time, this study is to motivate masses to voluntarily assess safety of their neighbourhood and undertake corrective measures. Originality/value This study is based on primary data collected by the authors.
